Alert sync runs on every branch

Medium Severity

The sync workflow triggers on push to any branch when the monitor files change, and it uses production DD_API_KEY / DD_APP_KEY. Unreviewed feature-branch edits upsert live prod monitors. Other deploy workflows in this repo gate production side effects on main. Abandoned or racing branches can leave Alerts on unreviewed thresholds or queries.

Restrict production sync to an approved branch.

A push to any same-repository branch that changes a listed file runs that branch’s sync.ts with DD_API_KEY and DD_APP_KEY. A collaborator who can push such a branch can change production monitors or send the credentials elsewhere without merging the change. Restrict the push trigger to the deployment branch. Also gate manual runs to an approved ref before supplying the credentials. Fork secret restrictions do not protect same-repository pushes. (docs.github.com)

The v2 tag can move to different action code. If that action is compromised, it can replace the Bun executable used by the later step, where the Datadog credentials are available. The fixed bun-version does not pin the action implementation. (docs.github.com)

Use one owner for the Datadog monitors.

sync.ts creates missing managed monitors. index.ts declares the same monitors as Pulumi resources without an import option. If the sync runs before a fresh Pulumi state, Pulumi can create a second monitor for each existing Datadog ID. Use one creation path, or import each sync-created monitor into Pulumi before managing it with this stack.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Route replica-lag no-data alerts to the webhook.

The replica-lag monitor enables notifyNoData, but alertMessage includes @webhook-macro-alert-hook only in alert, warning, and recovery blocks. A no-data transition therefore has no webhook recipient in the message. Add an {{#is_no_data}} block with the webhook handle so a stopped metric feed reaches Macro Alerts. Datadog documents is_no_data as a separate notification condition. (docs.datadoghq.com)

No-data alerts skip webhook

Medium Severity

The replica lag monitor sets notifyNoData so missing replication metrics page the Alerts channel, but alertMessage only places @webhook-macro-alert-hook inside is_alert, is_warning, and is_recovery. Datadog delivers handles only for the matching state, so a no-data transition never notifies the webhook. Recovery from no-data can still fire, which looks like a recover with no preceding page.

CPU monitor skips CloudWatch evaluations

High Severity

The CPU monitor queries aws.rds.cpuutilization with requireFullWindow and a 60s evaluationDelay over last_10m. CloudWatch/RDS points typically arrive minutes late, so the trailing part of that window is empty and Datadog skips the evaluation. The monitor can stay OK indefinitely, so the early CPU signal never pages.
