Add a reusable GitHub PR diff viewer beside agent sessions with URL-backed layout, inline review notes, and reliable file collapse and expansion.

Note

Medium Risk
Introduces new persistence, external GitHub/S3 capture paths, and harness integration for session-scoped diffs; user-facing review notes can drive agent prompts but do not post to GitHub.

Overview
Adds in-session review of linked GitHub pull request diffs: a new agent_changes backend service captures PR metadata and unified patches (Postgres agent_session_changes plus blob storage), exposes summary/patch/refresh APIs, and is wired into agent_harness_service and workspace dependency closures.

On the web, a new agent-changes feature mounts a split-pane diff viewer next to agent sessions: Pierre-rendered unified/split diffs, file tree navigation, capture/refresh states, URL-persisted layout, and inline review notes queued and sent to the agent (not GitHub). Production wiring goes through AgentChangesProvider and harness session queries; a debug gallery and README describe a future read-only PR-entity adapter that is not hooked up yet.

Supporting changes include the DB migration, many sqlx offline query artifacts, and a dev agent-changes-ui route registration.

Walkthrough

This change adds session change capture for linked GitHub pull requests. The backend parses, budgets, stores, and serves changeset summaries and patches through authenticated APIs. Realtime events update clients after capture changes. The web app adds a resizable diff pane with file navigation, collapse state, line review notes, URL-backed layout state, and session controls. Local, cloud, workspace, database, documentation, and static-analysis configuration now includes the feature.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to d0877

Captured changes can become stale, mismatched, unavailable, or overwrite newer results, and review feedback can target obsolete lines. These issues should be resolved before merge.

Reselecting a file skips scroll

Medium Severity

activate clears active and immediately sets it back to the same path so a second tree click can scroll again. Solid batches those two writes, so the signal never changes when the file is already selected and the scroll/flash effect does not run.

Use ts-pattern for exhaustive branching.

Replace both switch statements with match(...).with(...).exhaustive(). This preserves exhaustive handling when either union gains a new variant.

Use a semantic background color token.

Replace bg-violet with the applicable semantic accent token. The raw palette color can become inconsistent across themes.

As per path instructions, “Use semantic color tokens instead of raw Tailwind color classes.”

🌐 Web query:

official @pierre/diffs 1.3.5 FileDiff lineAnnotations renderAnnotation annotation cleanup removed annotations

💡 Result:

<search_synthesis>
In @pierre/diffs version 1.3.5, the annotation framework remains active and continues to support rendering custom content on lines using the lineAnnotations prop and the renderAnnotation callback [1][2][3]. There is no evidence in the 1.3.5 release notes or source code that these features were removed or that an "annotation cleanup" operation was introduced to remove annotations [4][5]. The library's annotation system is a stable, documented feature [6][7]. The FileDiff component, for instance, maintains these definitions in its interface: - lineAnnotations: DiffLineAnnotation[] [2] - renderAnnotation(annotation: DiffLineAnnotation): HTMLElement | undefined [2] Similarly, the React interfaces support these props for both File and CodeView components [1][3]. The Editor class includes a cleanUp method, but its purpose is for general editor teardown (e.g., when an item is removed or collapsed), not specifically for removing annotations [8][9]. When working with editors, it is standard practice to maintain annotations in application-owned state and update them via the onChange callback as the document changes [6][9].

Dispose annotation roots when annotations are removed.

@pierre/diffs removes stale annotation elements without calling renderAnnotation again. When a key leaves annotations, roots therefore retains its solid-js/web disposer. The detached NoteAnnotation root remains reactive to props.notes. Removed annotations at different keys can accumulate until the component unmounts.

Prune roots against the annotation list before each render.

Reject invalid pull request numbers.

Number(match[1]) accepts zero, unsafe integers, and values that become Infinity. The header can then render a nonsensical pull request number.

Require a positive safe integer before returning the value.

+ const number = Number(match[1]);
+ return Number.isSafeInteger(number) && number > 0 ? number : undefined;

Based on learnings, numeric identifiers parsed from user-editable text must be validated against a sane range.

Bind each review note to its changeset.

The stored note contains only its path and line range. After the capture changes, notes() still returns the note and markQueuedSent() sends its old location as part of the current changes.

If a file moves or a hunk shifts, the agent receives stale review instructions. Store the current changesetId with each note. Then clear, filter, or require confirmation for queued notes from an older changeset. Update the test that currently expects these notes to remain active.

Bind each patch read to a stable changeset.

The client keys patches by changesetId, but read_patch reads the session’s current patch key. If capture B completes after the client reads summary A, this operation can return patch B for A. The capture path also deletes the superseded blob, so an in-flight read can obtain the old key and then fail with PatchMissing.

Pass the expected ChangesetId through the patch API, validate or reject mismatches, and retain superseded blobs for the supported read lifetime.

Do not use yield_now() as capture-start synchronization.

The refresh handler returns the SessionChanges from request_capture. start_capture yields once after spawning capture, then calls repo.get. The spawned task reaches begin_attempt later, so the response can report an empty or stale attempt instead of capturing.

Use an explicit acknowledgement after begin_attempt, or record the attempt before spawning the extraction work.

Limit expiration to orphaned patches.

agent_session_changes.patch_blob_key remains the current session's patch until the session row is deleted. Because this lifecycle rule has no filter, S3 expires every patch 90 days after upload. If an active session has no newer capture for 90 days, its row still points to the expired object, so the patch endpoint returns PatchMissing/404 while the summary still describes the changeset.

Delete the patch when session deletion removes the row, or mark orphaned patches and apply a filtered lifecycle rule.

Use the grant-aware audience for changes updates. publish_changes_updated resolves recipients through participants.viewers(session). Here, participants is PgAgentSessionRepo, whose SessionAudience::viewers query returns only agent_session.owner_id. Shared users with entity access therefore do not receive AGENT_SESSION_CHANGES notifications. Pass session_audience.clone() instead.

In `@services/agent_harness_service/src/main.rs` around lines 825 - 828, Update
the ConnectionGatewayAgentSessionRealtime construction to pass
session_audience.clone() instead of session_repo.clone(), so
publish_changes_updated resolves recipients through the grant-aware
SessionAudience::viewers implementation and notifies shared users with entity
access.

Coding sessions on Cursor and self-hosted (macrod) runtimes now capture
the agent's changes when each turn ends and show them in a resizable
Changes pane next to the transcript, with a file tree, Pierre diffs,
per-file viewed/collapse state, line-level review notes that go back to
the agent as one prompt, and a Create pull request flow that drafts a
title and description and asks the agent to open and link the PR.

Backend
- New `agent_changes` crate: `ChangesetExtractor` port with one
 implementation per harness family, routed by the session's harness;
 `AgentChangesService` captures on turn end (and on demand), keeps the
 summary in the new `agent_session_changes` table, and stores the patch
 in S3 (`AGENT_SESSION_CHANGES_BUCKET`); pull request drafts come from
 the fast model.
- Cursor: read the pushed branch from the journaled run and compare it
 on GitHub with the installation token.
- macrod: a correlated `CollectChangesRequest` on the runtime protocol,
 answered by the daemon running git, relayed across replicas over the
 existing Redis command bus.
- Sandboxes report `unsupported`.
- Routes under `/agent-sessions/{id}/changes` (summary, patch, refresh,
 pull-request-draft) plus the `agent_session_changes` realtime event.

Frontend
- `features/agent-changes` (layered per FE-33): split layout with the
 session, header with branch pill, unified/split control, create-PR
 split button, spotlight and close; review bar; compressed file tree;
 file cards with Pierre diffs and gutter notes; hand-off card and
 queued-notes chip by the composer; PR sheet with form, progress, and
 opened states. Mounted in the Agents workspace pane and the agent
 block.
- Debug gallery at component `agent-changes-ui`.

Also regenerates the agent-harness and cognition OpenAPI clients, the
SQLx offline cache for the new queries, and the workspace dependency
closures; documents the pane in the app agent guide.
Only Cursor cloud agents and self-hosted daemons report their changes;
managed sandboxes answer unsupported. Remove the SandboxGit source
variant nothing produced, from the model, the wire DTO, the migration's
CHECK constraint, and the regenerated agent-harness client.

Notes marked sent after failed send

High Severity

sendQueuedNotes calls markQueuedSent right after fire-and-forget agent.send. When session.issue fails, the notes leave the queue and render as sent, so they cannot be retried and the agent never receives them.
