AI text writes addressed to a table-cell ID could replace the cell's paragraph with bare text. The browser then deleted that malformed content when opening the document.

This change prevents those writes at their entry point and preserves existing stray inline content:

  • Doc rejects table, row, cell, and list-container IDs for text insertion/replacement, inline insertion, and block-type changes. The error directs the caller to a paragraph/list-item ID or setCell; it does not guess which child to edit. Existing transaction rollback leaves rejected edits unchanged and unsynced.
  • The browser's existing table-cell transform wraps stray text and inline nodes in paragraphs instead of deleting them. Node identities, content order, and links survive.
  • Container search/replace and whole-table moves retain their existing behavior.

The scope is limited to the AI document adapter, browser table transform, focused tests, and agent guidance. This does not validate the whole editor tree or restore already-deleted content. The existing nested-table removal policy is unchanged.

Validation:

  • AI editing worker: 440 tests pass; TypeScript check passes.
  • Browser table plugins: 63 tests pass.
  • Real Chromium check: malformed cell text and links render in paragraphs in the original order.
  • Biome passes.

Note

Medium Risk
Changes how AI document edits resolve node ids and how the client normalizes malformed table cells—both affect collaborative document content, though edits are now explicit errors instead of silent corruption.

Overview
Fixes a path where AI edits could leave bare text/links directly under table cells, and the Markdown client then deleted that content on open instead of normalizing it.

The web table plugin now wraps stray inline nodes in new paragraphs (order preserved) while still stripping invalid block children such as nested tables. A Vitest case covers text plus links appended beside existing cell paragraphs.

The AI editing worker adds textBlock: setText, appendText/prependText, insertText, insertInline, and setBlockType fail fast when the target id is a table, row, cell, list container, or root, with a message to use a paragraph/list-item id or setCell. setCell, container-scoped replace, and table moves stay allowed. cell-id-shape.test.ts locks this behavior.

docs/AGENT_GUIDE/documents.md documents the container-id rule and that existing stray inlines are preserved in paragraphs when a document loads.

Replace raw status colors with semantic color tokens.

The frontend guideline applies to this TSX file. Replace text-red with text-failure, text-orange with text-warning, and text-green with text-success at lines 279 and 374–382.

This is a small consistency refactor, not a major behavioral issue.

official Loro CRDT 1.13.7 import status pending later import becomes applied out of order

💡 Result:

<search_synthesis>
In Loro CRDT, receiving updates out of order is a standard scenario handled by the library&#39;s causal consistency mechanisms [1][2]. When updates arrive that depend on missing operations, they are automatically classified as pending [1][3]. The import status system provides clear feedback on this process [1][4]: 1. Pending State: If an imported update cannot be applied because its causal dependencies (missing operations) have not been received, the import() method returns an ImportStatus object [1][3]. This object contains a pending field detailing the range of operations waiting for prerequisites [1][3]. 2. Resolution: Once the required dependencies are imported, the pending operations are automatically applied in the correct causal order [1][2]. The system uses a cascading evaluation process to ensure that as new updates arrive, they unlock any previously pending changes [2]. Regarding version 1.13.7 specifically, the changelogs indicate significant improvements related to import stability and edge cases [5][6][7]. Notably, version 1.13.7 addressed a potential panic when importing out-of-order updates that targeted mergeable child containers before their parent map creation had arrived; such operations are now correctly buffered as pending and applied once the creating change is imported [5][8]. Subsequent versions (such as 1.14.1) further refined the re-classification of pending changes to ensure accurate ImportStatus reporting and to prevent inconsistent states during batch imports [6][7]. If you are encountering unexpected behavior with pending imports, ensure you are checking the pending field in the return value of doc.import() [1][3] and verify that your system is correctly fetching and importing the missing dependency ranges identified by that status object [1][9].

<title>Import Status – Loro</title> https://loro.dev/docs/concepts/import_status Import Status – Loro ## Quick Reference Import status tells you what operations were applied and what’s pending due to missing dependencies. Essential for handling out-of-order updates in distributed systems. ## Status Structure ``` interface ImportStatus { success: PeerVersionRange; // What was applied pending?: PeerVersionRange; // What needs dependencies } interface PeerVersionRange { [peerId: `${number}`]: { start: number; // Inclusive end: number; // Exclusive (e.g., 0-50 = ops 0-49) }; } ``` ## Pending Operations Operations become pending when they depend on missing operations (causal dependencies). ### Common Scenario: Out-of-Order Delivery ``` const doc = new LoroDoc(); // Peer A creates ops 0-4, then 5-10 const peerA = new LoroDoc(); peerA.getText("text").insert(0, "Hello"); const update1 = peerA.export({ mode: "update" }); peerA.getText("text").insert(5, " World"); const update2 = peerA.export({ mode: "update", from: peerA.version() }); // If update2 arrives first: const status = doc.import(update2); console.log(status.pending); // Ops 10-19 pending, need 0-9 // Import missing dependencies: doc.import(update1); // Both updates now applied ``` ## Handling Pending Operations ``` async function handleImport( doc: LoroDoc, update: Uint8Array, fetchMissing: (from: VersionVector) => Promise<Uint8Array> ) { const status = doc.import(update); if (status.pending) { const missing = await fetchMissing(doc.version()); doc.import(missing); } } ``` ## Best Practices ### Always Check Status ``` const doc = new LoroDoc(); const status = doc.import(update); if (status.pending) { console.warn("Operations pending:", status.pending); // Fetch missing updates } ``` ### Use Batch Import ``` const updates: Uint8Array[] = [ //... ]; const doc = new LoroDoc(); const batchStatus = doc.importBatch(updates); // Single status check for all updates ``` <title>Pending Changes & Causal Consistency | loro-dev/loro | DeepWiki</title> https://deepwiki.com/loro-dev/loro/6.5-pending-changes-and-causal-consistency The `PendingChanges` system handles out-of-order changes in distributed environments. Below is an example of synchronization between two documents: ``` const docA = new LoroDoc(); const docB = new LoroDoc(); const listA: LoroList = docA.getList("list"); listA.insert(0, "A"); listA.insert(1, "B"); listA.insert(2, "C"); // B import the ops from A const data: Uint8Array = docA.export({ mode: "update" }); // The data can be sent to B through the network docB.import(data); expect(docB.toJSON()).toStrictEqual({ list: ["A", "B", "C"], }); const listB: LoroList = docB.getList("list"); listB.delete(1, 1); // `doc.export({mode: "update", from: version})` can encode all the ops from the version to the latest version // `version` is the version vector of another document const missingOps = docB.export({ mode: "update", from: docA.oplogVersion(), }); docA.import(missingOps); expect(docA.toJSON()).toStrictEqual({ list: ["A", "C"], }); expect(docA.toJSON()).toStrictEqual(docB.toJSON()); ``` ## Real-time Collaboration Due to CRDT properties, document consistency is guaranteed when peers receive the same updates, regardless of order or duplicates. Consistency does not remove the need to choose the right child container identity. If two offline peers create regular child containers under the same Map key, sync will converge to one visible Map value and the other child can be hidden by the Map conflict rule. For dynamic child containers that should be shared by logical key, use`ensureMergeable*` when modeling the document. ### Sync Strategies First Sync (Initial synchronization between peers): Realtime Sync (Continuous updates): 1. - New peers can exchange their Version Vectors to determine missing updates - Use`doc.export({ mode: "update", from: versionVector })` to get updates since the peer’s last known state. You may as well send the whole history by`doc.export({ mode: "update" })` as shown in the example above. - Example shows basic first sync scenario 2. - Subscribe to local updates - Broadcast updates directly to all other peers - No need for version comparison after initial sync - As long as updates reach all peers, consistency is maintained ### Example Here’s how two peers can establish realtime sync when one comes online with offline changes: 1. Both peers exchange their version information 2. Each peer shares their missing updates: 3. - `doc2` gets updates it’s missing from`doc1` - `doc1` gets updates it’s missing from`doc2` 4. Both peers establish realtime sync to stay connected ``` const doc1 = new LoroDoc(); doc1.getText("text").insert(0, "Hello"); // Peer2 joins the network const doc2 = new LoroDoc(); // ... doc2 may import its local snapshot // 1. Exchange version information const peer2Version = doc2.oplogVersion(); const peer1Version = doc1.oplogVersion(); // 2. Request missing updates from existing peers const missingOps = doc1.export({ mode: "update", from: peer2Version, }); doc2.import(missingOps); const missingOps2 = doc2.export({ mode: "update", from: peer1Version, }); doc1.import(missingOps2); // 3. Establish realtime sync doc2.subscribeLocalUpdates((update) => { // websocket.send(update); }); doc1.subscribeLocalUpdates((update) => { // websocket.send(update); }); // Now both peers are in sync and can collaborate ``` ## Understanding the import() Return Value The`import()` method in Loro’s JavaScript/WASM binding returns an object that provides feedback on the import operation. This object, let’s call it`ImportStatusJS`, has the following structure: ``` interface ImportStatusJS { success: PeerVersionRange; pending?: PeerVersionRange; // Optional: only present if there are pending operations } interface PeerVersionRange { [peerId: string]: { start: number; // Start counter (inclu…[truncated] <title>API Reference – Loro</title> https://loro.dev/docs/api/js ``` import(data: Uint8Array): ImportStatus ``` ... Imports updates or snapshots into the document. Returns an`ImportStatus` describing which peer ranges were applied or are pending. See Sync and Import Status for how Loro handles out-of-order and partial updates. ... ⚠️ Important: LoroDoc will automatically commits pending operations before import. If the doc is in detached mode, the imported operations are recorded into OpLog but not applied to DocState until you call`attach()`, see Attached vs Detached States adn OpLog and DocState. ... const doc = new LoroDoc(); ... // Receive updates from another peer (e.g., via network) const otherDoc = new LoroDoc(); otherDoc.getText("text").insert(0, "Hello"); const updates: Uint8Array = otherDoc.export({ mode: "update" }); // Import binary updates const status = doc.import(updates); console.log(status.success); <title>Result 5</title> https://unpkg.com/loro-crdt@1.13.9/CHANGELOG.md ## 1.13.7 ... ### Patch Changes ... - 3986805: Speed up snapshot import. When decoding a Loro snapshot, the redundant per-block SSTable validation (eager block-metadata decode and per-block checksums) is now skipped, because the whole snapshot body is already protected by the document-level checksum verified during decoding. This removes a second hash pass over the data (roughly halving B4 snapshot import time) while preserving integrity guarantees. ... This fast path is internal to Loro&`#39`;s snapshot decoding. The public `MemKvStore::import_all` still verifies every block&`#39`;s checksum; a separate `import_all_unchecked` opts into the unchecked path and is only used where an outer checksum already guarantees integrity. ... - 9 ... local text editing ... changes: the lock-order debug instrumentation is now compiled out of release builds (it ran on every per-op lock acquisition); the visible-op count is bumped incrementally for local ops instead of recomputing it from the version vectors (which also allocated) on every op; and ... op allocations on the ... text insert/delete path ... removed (lazy error-context formatting and inline ... storage for entity ranges). ... - c37e76a: Fix a checkout hang after snapshot import. Change-store blocks decoded from a snapshot recorded a wrong end lamport (`lamport_range.1` was set to the start lamport of the block&`#39`;s last change instead of its end). When a change was split across multiple blocks and a lamport-based lookup engaged the binary search path in `ChangeStore::get_change_by_lamport_lte` — e.g. the movable-list diff calculator resolving historical positions during `checkout` — the degenerate range made the search loop forever. The binary search now also caps its steps and falls back to a scan if it ever fails to converge; the fallback considers both unflushed in-memory blocks and the underlying kv store, so lamport lookups (e.g. `getChangeAtLamport`) stay correct for local changes that have not been flushed yet. ... - 8d258cb: Fix `unreachable` panic when importing an out-of-order update whose op targets a mergeable child container before its creation (or its parent map) has arrived. Such ops are now buffered as pending and applied once the creating change is imported. - 32700ba: Fix undo recording for the first local commit after importing shallow snapshots that need import-time state materialization. ... - 7dfda87: Make update imports atomic across oplog and document state application. - `import` and `import_json_updates` now roll back imported oplog changes when state application fails, so malformed updates do not leave the document with oplog/state divergence. - Pending changes that are activated during import are included in the rollback boundary when they can affect state application. - Import rollback uses conditional guards to avoid adding fixed overhead to successful detached or no-op imports.

Do not present import-time pending status as final status.

inspect() stores each blob’s status.pending immediately after LoroDoc.import(blob). Loro can apply those pending operations when a later import supplies their dependencies. BlobTable renders the stored value as pending without stating that it is the import-time result.

Label it as pending when imported, or recompute unresolved ranges after all imports. This is a minor issue in a development diagnostic, and the label change is low effort.

Sensitive Data Exposure

Reachability: Internal
Exploitability: Moderate
CWE: CWE-200 — Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor

Do not send the administrator key to an arbitrary --url.

--url controls the request origin. If the caller omits --key, the script still resolves the credential for targetEnv. The request then sends that credential to the custom origin.

An attacker can supply a diagnostic URL and receive the production administrator key when a developer runs the command. Restrict custom origins or require an explicit credential that is not resolved automatically.

Add an explicit playground credential path.

When --env playground runs without --key, resolveAuthKey() reads the cloud-storage-service Doppler lcl value. The deployed Worker instead resolves the SYNC_SERVICE_KEY_PLAYGROUND binding from INTERNAL_API_SECRET_KEY. The repository defines no alias or workflow that connects these credentials. The script may therefore send a key that does not match the playground Worker, causing authentication to fail.

Resolve playground through the credential source that backs SYNC_SERVICE_KEY_PLAYGROUND, or require an explicit --key. Do not silently fall through to lcl.

Propagate authentication and server failures from /exists.

exists() converts 401, 403, and 5xx responses to false. The caller then reports that the document has no snapshot. This hides invalid credentials and service outages.

Return false only for the endpoint's documented missing-document response. Throw for other non-success responses.

Adds the two tools needed to debug a corrupt collaborative document, plus a
characterization test for the corruption they turned up.

`just dump <document_id> [dev|prd]` pulls a document's raw Loro bytes out of
its DocumentSyncSession durable object into local files: the full snapshot,
the retained op log, pending ops, and the last version vector — each as both
binary and base64. The DO already exposed everything (`/snapshot`, `/raw`,
`/debug_do_kv_list`); it had no client. Auth goes through the internal API key
header, which the DO maps to AccessLevel::Admin, so no per-document JWT is
needed. Doppler holds the *name* of the AWS Secrets Manager secret, so the
script resolves both hops.

`/app/component/loro-inspect` (dev only) takes that base64 and dumps it: blob
metadata read straight off the bytes, then the document that results from
importing every blob in order. Per blob it reports applied / pending /
redundant, which is what distinguishes a genuinely missing ancestor op from
one the snapshot already contains.

The test records a real bug found with them. `locate.$blockById` resolves ids
with `$findMatchingParent(node, n => $isElementNode(n) && !n.isInline())`, and
`$findMatchingParent` tests the starting node first. A TableCellNode is a
non-inline ElementNode, so a `<td>` id resolves to the cell itself and every
op routed through `Doc.block()` treats it as a text-bearing block:

  - setText drops the cell's paragraph, leaving `tablecell -> text`, which is
    not a shape Lexical accepts
  - appendText/prependText add a bare text node without removing the existing
    one, duplicating the cell's content

`setCell` is the correct path and stays well-formed; `requireTable` already
guards this exact confusion for table ids, but nothing guards `block()`.

The three broken cases are `it.fails` — they assert the shape we want and
record that we do not produce it yet. No fix here; see the PR for the
defenses worth building.

$blockById no longer treats a <td>/<tr>/<table> as a text block, so setText
and appendText keep the paragraph wrapper. Doc.tx and the Loro write path
reject any tree the client table plugin would refuse.

Cell ids now resolve to a paragraph/heading/quote/code or the first
listitem, so $setText cannot leave list → text. Table and row ids still
resolve to themselves so move/locate/replace keep working. The validator
rejects a list whose child is not a listitem.

Co-authored-by: Wolf Mermelstein <wolf@404wolf.com>
$setText on a list id cleared the list and appended bare text. Lexical
will not keep list → text, so the empty list was dropped and the
document went blank. Descend to a listitem for set/append/prepend.

setText on containers deletes content

High Severity

textBlock rejects table, row, cell, and list ids for setText and insertText, but removeText still goes through this.block(). The live queue expands setText via retype into removeText then insertText. A cell or table id therefore clears every descendant text node and syncs that wipe, then insertText throws and the replacement never lands. Direct doc.apply(setText) tests miss this path.

mergeBlocks still writes bare cell text

Medium Severity

mergeBlocks still resolves ids with $byId and $mergeBlocks appends a separator text node plus the later node's children onto the first node. A cell or table id therefore recreates tablecell → text (or a text child of a table). textBlock does not cover this op, and $assertValidEditorTree no longer runs before commit, so the invalid shape reaches the CRDT.
