When you hear the words “Artificial Intelligence”, what are the first four things that come to your mind?
- advertising/data
- algorithms
- media production
- feed reccomendations
Think about the devices and/or digital services you use daily. Write below a list of the top three that are present in your life.

See if you can recall a similar moment and write about it below:
- A lot of cool people I am inspired by on Instagram are suggested via Instagram--or friends, either way, I hate that Instagram is so good at helping me know people.
Functions of AI things:
- Email inbox: automatically sorting spam.
- Check depositing: fraud detection.
- Texting and mobile keyboards: word recommendations.
- Netflix: Netflix is the king of recommendations. Too bad they don't have anything good anymore.
- Google: Suggestions for news and other media.
- Social media: friend recommendations.
- Automated message systems: Finding ways to sound human.
What do we gain by having AI in our everyday lives?:
- A lot of mundane tasks are much easier or nonexistent. Sometimes, people's needs are met when they otherwise wouldn't.
What do we lose by having AI in our daily lives?:
- Genuine interactions, free will, small communities.
Use the prompts below to help design an AI system:
- problem: food distribution.
- how can ai help: analyze food resource data.
- human role: providing data and monitoring analysis-also being ethical and aware of complex context.
- data I need: food resource data.
- data gathering: Use census data. Encourage people to participate in it. Or get people to agree to laws that give up most of their privacy without knowing it.
