When you hear the words “Artificial Intelligence”, what are the first four things that come to your mind?

  • advertising/data
  • algorithms
  • media production
  • feed reccomendations

Think about the devices and/or digital services you use daily. Write below a list of the top three that are present in your life.

  • phone
  • laptop
  • Citi bike

See if you can recall a similar moment and write about it below:

  • A lot of cool people I am inspired by on Instagram are suggested via Instagram--or friends, either way, I hate that Instagram is so good at helping me know people.

Functions of AI things:

  • Email inbox: automatically sorting spam.
  • Check depositing: fraud detection.
  • Texting and mobile keyboards: word recommendations.
  • Netflix: Netflix is the king of recommendations. Too bad they don't have anything good anymore.
  • Google: Suggestions for news and other media.
  • Social media: friend recommendations.
  • Automated message systems: Finding ways to sound human.

What do we gain by having AI in our everyday lives?:

  • A lot of mundane tasks are much easier or nonexistent. Sometimes, people's needs are met when they otherwise wouldn't.

What do we lose by having AI in our daily lives?:

  • Genuine interactions, free will, small communities.

Use the prompts below to help design an AI system:

  • problem: food distribution.
  • how can ai help: analyze food resource data.
  • human role: providing data and monitoring analysis-also being ethical and aware of complex context.
  • data I need: food resource data.
  • data gathering: Use census data. Encourage people to participate in it. Or get people to agree to laws that give up most of their privacy without knowing it.
