For GeekSpeak.org we are using the Twitter Bootstrap...
Bootstrap is a sleek, intuitive, and powerful front-end framework for faster and easier web development...
It is HTML, CSS, and JavaScript baseline that "suggests" you do it a specific way. So, if you want to participate on the design of GeekSpeak look through the Twitter Bootstrap examples as your components and such.
For creating buttons using Twitter Bootstrap html structure try http://www.plugolabs.com/twitter-bootstrap-button-generator/ It will be dead simple for a coder to take the html from this generator and drop it into the erb and haml files that make up GeekSpeak.org to use the new look.
