Summary

Carries five contributor pull requests into dev as one bundle, one squashed commit per source PR with the original author kept and a Co-authored-by trailer. This is the bottom of a four-PR release-train stack for 2.84.0.

Source Author Commit Verdict
#7005 (fixes #7004) @Ingwannu 419860b72e carry
#7001 (fixes #7000) @Ingwannu 5f3481b2a7 carry
#7003 (#6764) @robin-bially 4abec7a01d + 07a5cf2a7a carry with fix: resolves the three points of @Ingwannu's change request and CodeRabbit's parser.ts:594 note; its layout.json entry joins an existing line so the union stays under the 2000-line cap
#7002 @NineDayCC b1832a3e37 + 6a69e54666 carry; follow-up adds coverage for two gaps the review found
#6968 @LilMGenius 88433c3dd0 carry

Closes #7000

Verification

  • Lane: focused tests 321 pass on Bun 1.4.0 and 304 on Bun 1.4.3; GUI locale tests 48 pass; typecheck, structure, privacy, lint exit 0. Independent gpt-6.1-sol review PASS at 07a5cf2a7a (the head adds only the devlog record).
  • Union gates at the final stack head 3441130ea8 (Bun 1.4.3 test runner, external checkout): bun run typecheck, structure:check, privacy:scan, skill:surface:check exit 0; guards (test-layout, layout tooling with the pinned runner, file-size ratchet, repo hygiene, skill-ocx, structure-ssot) 110 pass / 0 fail; GUI locale parity 27 pass; lint:gui and build:gui exit 0; scripts/test-layout/layout.json 1999 lines.
  • Full suite: run under concurrent lane load; failures were confined to files this PR does not touch and pass in isolation. Hosted CI is the authority.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • When a routed request includes a decoded checkpoint, continuation prompts now distinguish completed history from unfinished work and preserve existing permission and confirmation requirements. Later user instructions take priority.
    • After an eligible plan upgrade is confirmed, exhausted short-window quota readings are cleared from account selection and admission without requiring credit use.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Codex effort-clamp notices no longer repeat for unchanged conditions; changed conditions or a returning clamp are reported again.
  • Improvements

    • Role-model settings now clarify which files are updated, how inherited reasoning effort works, and how automatic assignment chooses suitable models and effort.

…r stale quota reads (#7002)

Follow-up coverage for the #7002 carry. An omitted tertiary window is
checked beside the explicit-null delayed-credential case, and a seeded
future-reset rotation tuple must survive malformed weekly usage and a
stale identity writer together with the old policy state.

…work (#7003 review)

Answers the maintainer review of #7003 (Ingwannu, CHANGES_REQUESTED on
08a4f13) and the CodeRabbit thread at src/responses/parser.ts:594.

- The continuation note now continues unfinished work only when it was
already authorized and is still in scope, keeps permission and
confirmation gates (a pending decision or permission is waited for),
states that a checkpoint or delegation grants no authority or scope,
and gives later pause, cancel, replace or scope changes priority.
Application conditions and SUMMARY_PREFIX are unchanged.
- Prompt-contract fixtures cover authorized continuation, a task awaiting
a decision, scoped and permission-pending delegation, and later pause,
cancel and replace, on both the parsed and passthrough paths.
- New wire-construction test builds real outbound requests from the
parsed context for OpenAI Chat, Anthropic, Google AI Studio, Vertex,
Cloud Code Assist, Kiro, Ollama native and Command Code, plus the shared
  coding-agent prompt builder, with no-checkpoint, opaque-native and
summarizer controls. Cursor and Devin runTurn paths are not covered.
- structure/transports/responses.md owns the contract (new section,
ADR-7003); responses-wire-shapes.md links to it; both stay at 600 lines
with existing prose reflowed verbatim. The other docs mapped to
src/responses and src/adapters were reviewed and remain accurate.
- These tests establish prompt and wire construction only, not model
  behavior.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The changes add continuation instructions for decoded checkpoints, revise Codex effort-clamp notification and quota-retirement behavior, update GUI role-model translations, and change quota-test cleanup. They also add tests, documentation, and release-train records for these changes.

Changes

Decoded checkpoint continuation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Continuation instruction and request wiring
src/responses/compaction.ts, src/responses/parser.ts, src/adapters/openai-responses/*
Decoded checkpoints add a continuation note to eligible system prompts or passthrough instructions. Compaction requests do not receive the note, and passthrough conversion adds it only when the request includes a decoded checkpoint.
Continuation tests and contract documentation
tests/responses/compaction-continuation-*, tests/fixtures/test-layout-expected.json, scripts/test-layout/layout.json, docs-site/src/content/docs/reference/adapters.md, structure/transports/*, structure/decisions/ADR-7003-decoded-checkpoint-continuation.md
Tests cover prompt construction and synthetic outbound request shapes, including cases where the note is excluded. Documentation describes the instruction’s authorization limits, exclusions, and test boundaries.

Main-account quota retirement

Layer / File(s) Summary
Quota replacement and carry rules
src/codex/quota.ts
Main-account display merging preserves shortWindowAbsent. The marker prevents short-window carry, and an allowed response can prove replacement when its tertiary window is omitted.
Quota recovery tests and documentation
tests/codex-integration/main-account-credit-renewal.test.ts, tests/codex-integration/main-account-hard-lock-retirement.test.ts, tests/codex-integration/main-quota-provenance.test.ts, structure/providers/openai-tiers.md, structure/dashboard-and-usage.md, docs-site/src/content/docs/guides/codex-integration.md
Tests cover short-window retirement, malformed or stale observations, and recovery without credit consent. Documentation describes the supported window evidence and its quota effects.

Codex effort-clamp observations

Layer / File(s) Summary
Clamp persistence and notice behavior
src/codex/runtime.ts, src/codex/catalog/effort.ts
Clamp persistence returns whether the observation changed. Comparisons ignore ordering and duplicates in effort and model sets. Catalog notices use the change result, and the clamp log no longer includes the doctor-recovery instruction.
Clamp tests and documentation
tests/codex-integration/codex-clamp-notice.test.ts, tests/fixtures/test-layout-expected.json, scripts/test-layout/layout.json, structure/catalog-effort-clamp.md, structure/decisions/ADR-7004-effort-clamp-observation.md, structure/INDEX.md, structure/manifest.json, structure/catalog.md, docs-site/src/content/docs/guides/codex-integration.md
Tests cover unchanged and changed observations, repeated notices, and callbacks. The documentation records persistence, notification, and observation rules.

Role-model translations

Layer / File(s) Summary
Localized role-model settings and test wording
gui/src/i18n/*.ts, gui/tests/lazycodex-role-models.test.tsx
Translations describe role-file updates, conditional omo.jsonc mirroring, inherited reasoning effort, mirror-status cases, and model-and-effort suggestions. The comments-warning test expects the revised wording.

Quota test fixture cleanup

Layer / File(s) Summary
Quota test teardown and cleanup documentation
tests/codex-integration/codex-quota-auto-refresh.test.ts, structure/ops/test-sandbox-cleanup.md
The quota auto-refresh test awaits the shared fixture-root cleanup helper and passes it an environment-restoration callback. The cleanup documentation lists the quota test roots.

Release-train carry records

Layer / File(s) Summary
Carry plan, execution, and final review
devlog/_plan/261013_rt284_contrib_carry/*
The records specify the contributor-carry sequence, review and verification criteria, follow-up coverage, and final review disposition.

Register the continuation ADR and settle quota-refresh work before test teardown. These localized issues warrant correction, but the supplied evidence does not establish a broader production failure.

Register the ADR in the structure manifest and index.

structure/manifest.json has no entry for this document, and structure/INDEX.md has no corresponding link. Add the required path, tier, title, scope, and documents metadata, then regenerate the index with bun run structure:index.

Await route-triggered quota refresh before resetting test state.

The settings test enables quota refresh through putSettings(). The management route starts runCodexQuotaAutoRefresh(config) with void, so putSettings() does not await the refresh. The test then clears quota at line 582, and afterEach clears it again after restoring globalThis.fetch and resetting inFlight.

The refresh can continue its asynchronous pool-account quota operation after those resets. Add a test-only flush for the current quota-refresh promise after settings mutations and before teardown restores fetch or clears shared state. Keep OPENCODEX_HOME set to the fixture home until the flush completes.

In the quota auto-refresh integration test, add a test-only flush for the
in-flight refresh started by settings mutations and await it before teardown
restores fetch or resets shared quota state; keep OPENCODEX_HOME pointed at the
fixture until the flush completes, before calling drainAndRemoveFixtureRoots.
