Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to Maintainers could miss migration eligibility requirements or the source file responsible for tray behavior. The app behavior is not shown to be broken, and both documentation fixes are bounded, so merge risk is low with owner awareness or follow-up. Pre-merge checks |

login_registration::migration rewrites the plist only when Label == SERVICE, RunAtLoad == true, and ProgramArguments contains the app path alone or the app path followed by --autostart. The app path must resolve to the running app copy, and the plist and resolution must remain stable while they are read. Document these predicates so the migration contract is complete.

Map the documented tray orchestration to tray.rs.
This document describes Start at Login construction, hover refresh, click dispatch, and periodic refresh. Those flows are implemented in desktop/src-tauri/src/tray.rs, so add that path to documents. lib.rs only declares the tray_login module and does not need to be mapped.

…fies The macOS tray item read tauri-plugin-autostart's is_enabled, which is only "the LaunchAgent plist exists", so a launchd-disabled job, another app copy's registration or a job loaded from an old copy showed a checked item while Startup safety reported Start at Login unverified (#6972). login_registration.rs ports macLoginRegistration step for step and the tray checks the item only for a verified registration of this copy. Other states are unchecked with the reason in the label; a launchd-disabled job opens Login Items settings, and another copy's, a missing app's or unreadable registrations are never rewritten. One shared fixture (58 cases) runs against both the Rust port and the TypeScript judgment. The macOS launch-origin migration now rewrites only this copy's own entry in the exact shape the plugin writes.
…untouched Code review: migration() judged the plist from one plutil read without re-reading its identity, so another copy replacing it mid-probe could be rewritten. Re-read the plist, target and executable identities as classify() does. Also correct the actionable-state count in the structure doc.
…ion to the Start at Login doc
tests/clients/desktop-exit-ownership guards that no shell source calls .kill(). A launchctl or plutil that outlives the 750 ms deadline is now left to finish and reaped on a detached thread; the probe still answers unverified at the deadline.

Compare
Code review: abandoning a timed-out launchctl or plutil without a bound let a hung launchd accumulate children and reader threads on every tray refresh. One slot is now held until the child and both readers finish, and no command starts while it is held, so a hung launchd costs at most one abandoned command. Covered by a real-process regression.

Scoped review at 2f75923c18: I checked the TypeScript judgment extraction, tray probe/click wiring and first-run migration. Only verified On is checked; disabled-by-system opens Login Items instead of rewriting launchd's override; another/missing/unknown copy is inert. Probe work runs off the main thread, presentation is applied together on the main thread, and a click re-probes before acting and does nothing if the shown state changed. The migration now uses its separately guarded judgment rather than rewriting any existing plist.
The shared 58-case Rust/TypeScript fixture is useful parity evidence, not live AppKit/launchd acceptance. I have not audited every Rust port branch, compiled Rust or run the fixture here; other worktrees' active Cargo builds prohibit another local validation workload. Final macOS UI/ownership behavior remains owner acceptance, including the documented cross-process probe/write gap. This is COMMENT, not APPROVE or lifecycle-boundary sign-off, and no live LaunchAgent/service was modified.
…fies (#6996) Squashed from #6996 for the 2.84.0 release train. On macOS the Desktop tray's **Start at Login** checkbox read only whether `~/Library/LaunchAgents/OpenCodex.plist` exists (tauri-plugin-autostart `is_enabled`). Startup safety (`macLoginRegistration` in `src/service/desktop-startup.ts`) also requires launchd not to disable the job and the registered or loaded program to be this app copy. So a job turned off under System Settings → Login Items, another app copy's registration, or a job loaded from an old copy showed a **checked** tray item while the Startup page said Start at Login was not verified, and clicking rewrote the plist without clearing launchd's override. Now the tray uses the same judgment: - `desktop/src-tauri/src/login_registration.rs` ports `macLoginRegistration` step for step (plist shape, `launchctl print-disabled` override, registered app == this running copy, loaded `program`/`path`, or the exact service-not-found answer with an unchanged re-read, 750 ms per command, `access(X_OK)`, JS whitespace and line-terminator semantics). - The item is **checked only for a verified registration**, including a valid one that is not loaded until next login. Every other state is unchecked with the reason in the label: | State | Label | Click | |---|---|---| | verified | Start at Login ✓ | turns it off | | no plist | Start at Login | registers this copy | | launchd disabled this copy | Start at Login (disabled by macOS) | opens Login Items settings | | another copy registered or loaded | Start at Login (another OpenCodex copy) | disabled | | registered app path missing | Start at Login (registered app is missing) | disabled | | unreadable / malformed / timed out / changed while read | Start at Login (status unknown) | disabled | Closes #6972

Summary
On macOS the Desktop tray's Start at Login checkbox read only whether
~/Library/LaunchAgents/OpenCodex.plistexists (tauri-plugin-autostartis_enabled). Startup safety (macLoginRegistrationinsrc/service/desktop-startup.ts) also requires launchd not to disable the job and the registered or loaded program to be this app copy. So a job turned off under System Settings → Login Items, another app copy's registration, or a job loaded from an old copy showed a checked tray item while the Startup page said Start at Login was not verified, and clicking rewrote the plist without clearing launchd's override. Now the tray uses the same judgment:
desktop/src-tauri/src/login_registration.rsportsmacLoginRegistrationstep for step (plist shape, launchctl print-disabledoverride, registered app == this running copy, loadedprogram/path, or the exact service-not-found answer with an unchanged re-read, 750 ms per command,access(X_OK), JS whitespace and line-terminator semantics).tray_login.rsprobes on blocking workers under one mutex (at build, on hover at most every 2 s, every 60 s, and around a click, re-probing before acting) and applies presentation in one main-thread closure. muda flips a check item before the click arrives, so the handler restores the shown state and holds the item disabled until its own answer.tests/fixtures/desktop-login-registration-cases.json(58 cases), runs against both the Rust port and the TypeScript judgment (macLoginFactsFor, extracted verbatim from the existing unowned-path lambda), so the two cannot drift silently.first_run.rsused to rewrite whatever plist existed, and its marker is shared by every copy. It now rewrites only this copy's entry that has exactly the three keys the plugin writes and was not replaced while being read.Docs:
