Thanks for the review. All three code points are fixed, each behind a test that failed first:
On order: #6262 first and then this one rebased to its own commits is the cleaner path, and I'll rebase as soon as #6262 lands. The same I'd appreciate a merge after #6262. |

Thanks for this series. The work itself looks useful, but it can't be reviewed or merged in its current shape.
The three PRs are stacked inside each other: #6269 carries all of #6262's commits and #6274 carries both (+1.4k, +3.4k and +4.2k lines respectively). Reviewing #6274 means re-reviewing the first two, and a fix in one has to be repeated in the others. Since the base of a PR from a fork can't be another fork branch, CI and review both see the full combined diff every time.
Please close these and re-open the omo work as three PRs whose diffs do not overlap, each against dev:
- Role model picker: role file editing, the
omo.jsoncmirror,/api/codex-agent-roles,ocx agent roles, and the omo tab table (#6262's content). - Auto-assign: sizing, the deterministic mapper, and the Auto-assign UI (the commits after
34e7eac7b). - Subagents Suggest:
/api/injection-model/suggestand the Suggest button (the commits fromeef38bd32).
If a later PR can't build without an earlier one, either move the shared piece (for example role-sizing.ts and the mapper) into the earlier PR, or open the later PR only after the earlier one has merged, rebased on dev so it carries only its own commits. Each PR also needs its own i18n, docs, layout.json and test-layout-expected.json entries so it stays green on its own.
This PR (#6269) maps to piece 2 above. After the split it should contain only the auto-assign commits.

Correction to my earlier review: please disregard the request to split the stack into three non-overlapping PRs. That was not the actual problem. This review replaces it.
The real blocker is that "omo" currently means three different products, and this series treats them as one.
- Pi-based omo (the senpi engine). This is what opencodex's existing
omointegration manages today:~/.omo/agent/models.json, redirected byOMO_CODING_AGENT_DIR/SENPI_CODING_AGENT_DIR/PI_CODING_AGENT_DIR(omoAgentDir()insrc/clients/config-export.ts,omoinsrc/integrations/registry.ts). - OpenCode-based omo (oh-my-opencode), which has its own config and agent model settings.
- Codex-based omo (LazyCodex), which is what these PRs target: role files in
$CODEX_HOME/agents/<role>.tomlpluscodex.agents.<role>.modelin~/.omo/omo.jsonc.
This series adds Codex role models, auto-assign and omo.jsonc mirroring to the existing omo tab, which belongs to the Pi-based omo. A Pi-based omo user would see a Codex role table that has nothing to do with their install, and ~/.omo/omo.jsonc is assumed to be LazyCodex's file just because it lives under ~/.omo. The same name is doing three jobs across the tab, the API (/api/codex-agent-roles, omo.jsonc state), the CLI and the docs.
Please update the series so the three variants are distinguished explicitly:
- Identify which omo variant a feature applies to, and detect that variant from its own evidence (install layout and config files) rather than from the
~/.omodirectory alone. - Scope the Codex role model picker, auto-assign and
omo.jsoncmirroring to Codex-based omo (LazyCodex) only. Show them only when that variant is present, and label the UI, API, CLI and docs accordingly, for example "omo (Codex / LazyCodex)" rather than plain "omo". - Leave the Pi-based omo integration (
~/.omo/agent/models.json) unchanged, and do not surface Codex-only controls on it. - If OpenCode-based omo is out of scope, say so in the PR and make sure nothing here reads or writes its files. If it is in scope, handle it as its own variant.
- Update i18n,
docs-site(the integrations table currently lists one "omo" row) andstructure/clients/integrations.mdso the three are named consistently.
For this PR (#6269): auto-assign inherits the same scoping and should appear only for Codex-based omo.

…of its TOML - Share the TOML model-key scan between the pin reader and a new writer, so a model = inside the instructions string is never edited - Replace an existing root value in place or insert one after the leading comments, keeping EOL, BOM and quote style - Accept only listed role names and regular files, and refuse a non-string model value instead of duplicating the key
- Write codex.agents.<role>.model in ~/.omo/omo.jsonc, resolving home the way omo does (HOME, USERPROFILE, then the OS home) - Report absent, invalid, or comment-carrying files instead of writing them, since a re-serialized JSONC file would lose its comments - Add hasJsoncComments to the shared JSONC parser
…t API
- GET /api/codex-agent-roles lists each role's root model pin, its omo.jsonc model, and the omo.jsonc state
- PUT /api/codex-agent-roles/{role} writes the role TOML first, then mirrors into omo.jsonc and reports what it skipped
- Load the handler on demand, refuse the write from a sibling instance, and add ocx agent roles for CLI parity
- Add a role table to the omo tab with the current pin, a model select fed by the subagent model list, and a save button per row - Tell the user when omo.jsonc was absent, invalid, unwritable, or skipped because a rewrite would drop its comments - Add the copy to every locale catalog
- State the one-key, user-initiated write boundary for role TOMLs in structure/subagents.md - Describe the omo.jsonc mirror and its absent, invalid and comments outcomes in structure/clients/integrations.md - Add the omo tab role table and ocx agent roles to the integrations guide and CLI reference
- Take the --json flag before reading the action, so ocx agent roles --json reads instead of failing as an unknown action - Cover the read and set requests, including an encoded role name, in the headless parity test
…roles - Add the new GUI endpoint to the headless parity coverage table, which failed on it as uncovered
- Drop the shared 460px table floor and the redundant current-model column below 760px, so the picker and Save sit inside the card at 390px instead of behind a sideways scroll
…ng role models - Reading an omo.jsonc that exists but cannot be read reports the unreadable state, so GET /api/codex-agent-roles still lists the Codex roles and a save reports write_failed for the mirror - An explicit null codex, codex.agents or role entry is invalid on write as it already is on read, and the file is left byte for byte
…e model key - An escaped quoted root key such as "mod\u0065l" is decoded before matching, so its value is replaced instead of a second model key being inserted; a quoted root key that cannot be decoded refuses the write - A multiline string closing on four or five quotes ends on the last three, so replacing a """old"""" or '''old'''' model value removes the whole token and the file stays parseable
…failures - After a save whose omo.jsonc mirror reports write_failed, the row keeps a Retry omo.jsonc action that resubmits the same model, and a successful retry returns the row to a disabled Save - A failed save shows the localized saveFailed message instead of the server or network error text
- src/codex/role-sizing.ts holds the tier and effort vocabulary, the system prompt and the JSON answer validator, citing the MIT-licensed modelchk source - An answer that is not the strict JSON shape leaves the role unsized with the reason instead of guessing
…erving way as its model - locateTomlReasoningEffortKey shares the pin reader's TOML-aware scan, so an effort line inside the instructions string is never edited - writeCodexAgentRoleModel takes an optional effort, validates it against the declared levels, and writes both keys in one atomic replace
- subagentSelectableModels in src/codex/subagent-selectable-models.ts now builds the list GET /api/subagent-models returns, so role auto-assign can draw candidates from the same source
- postLocalChatCompletion in src/lib/local-chat-completion.ts carries the destination, admission, bounded read and error taxonomy the routed vision describer used, so other internal model calls reuse it - describeImageRouted keeps its error text, recursion-fence header and breadcrumb and now calls the shared helper
- role-auto-assign.ts classifies candidates into tiers by codexRoleTiers first and price rank second, and never proposes an unclassified model - Effort binds to floor, default, the rung above and ceiling of the chosen model's ladder, collapsing inside its range
- POST /api/codex-agent-roles/auto-assign sizes the roles in one call through the proxy's own chat completion, on the Codex default model unless a model is given, and returns per-role proposals
- Candidates are the subagent picker's models, tiered by the new codexRoleTiers config and by price
- PUT /api/codex-agent-roles/{role} accepts an optional effort so a proposal applies through the existing write
- ocx agent roles suggest prints each role's proposal without writing, and --apply writes every proposed model and effort through PUT /api/codex-agent-roles/{role}
- Declare the auto-assign route and the --model and --apply flags on the agent roles capability and regenerate the ocx skill surface
- An Auto-assign button on the role table asks for proposals and shows each role's proposed model, effort, tier, rationale and move triggers - Apply per row or Apply all writes through the existing role save, with the effort only where the role file sets one; unsized roles stay read-only - Strings in all ten locales
- structure/subagents.md states the split between the one sizing call and the deterministic tier and effort mapping, and the no-write preview - The integrations guide, CLI reference and configuration reference cover Auto-assign, ocx agent roles suggest and codexRoleTiers
…ready set - A proposal whose model and effort already equal the role's pin had an Apply button and was rewritten by Apply all; it now reads Already set and is skipped
…-apply - ocx agent roles suggest --apply no longer rewrites a role whose model and proposed effort already equal its pin, the same rule the dashboard's Already set uses, and names the skipped roles in the summary and a skipped list in --json
- A sizing answer that adds a key beyond tier, effort, rationale, move_up_if and move_down_if no longer leaves the role unsized; the extra key is ignored and all five fields are still required with valid values
…ls are priced - With one or two priced models the dearest is frontier and each cheaper one sits a tier lower, so two priced models are standard and frontier and a standard role gets the cheaper one instead of jumping to frontier; three or more still split evenly, and the rule is stated in the module comment, structure/subagents.md and the integrations guide
- fr.ts shipped the English word for the standard tier, which the French catalog test rejects as an untranslated value
- POST /api/codex-agent-roles/auto-assign answers 409 lazycodex_not_detected before reading the body or calling the sizing model, the same rule and code as PUT - ocx agent roles suggest surfaces that refusal and --apply writes nothing; the capability detail names suggest as refused
…dex / LazyCodex) - OmoRoleAutoAssign becomes LazyCodexRoleAutoAssign inside the Codex-tab LazyCodex section, with lazycodex-auto-assign classes - integrations.omoRoles.auto.* keys become integrations.lazycodexRoles.auto.* in all ten locales
- The guide, the CLI reference and the structure note state that auto-assign and ocx agent roles suggest need LazyCodex detected and answer 409 lazycodex_not_detected otherwise

Withdrawn. The stack-split request (01:44) was superseded by the 01:47 review. The omo-variant scoping it asked for was applied on this branch: auto-assign moved into the omo (Codex / LazyCodex) section, and the route and CLI now refuse with 409 lazycodex_not_detected before reading the body or calling the sizing model (362fbe3, 66f8309, 5d9816f). Review findings were fixed in 660b6d1, 7b346ad, a929234 and ece8b62. The work is landing as maintainer carry #6367 with Co-authored-by credit, on top of #6366 (carry of #6262).
…arry #6269) (#6367) Carries #6269 by @LilMGenius: Auto-assign for omo (Codex / LazyCodex) agent roles. One sizing call asks a model the user already has to sort each role into a capability tier and an effort level, never naming a model. A deterministic mapper then turns each tier into a concrete model and reasoning effort. POST /api/codex-agent-roles/auto-assign only proposes changes. Applying a proposal goes through the existing PUT. The CLI form is ocx agent roles suggest [--apply]. Maintainer follow-ups: sizing failures now return only a fixed category or HTTP status, the effort writer keeps the role-TOML validation from #6366, and two React Doctor warnings are fixed. Summary
This is stacked on #6262 and contains its commits. The commits after
d7a4f91a7are this PR's own. If #6262 lands first, this branch rebases to only those.Picking a model per role (#6262) still leaves the user deciding which of fourteen roles deserve a strong model. Most people either set them all to one model or give up. This PR adds an Auto-assign button to the same role table. It proposes a model and a reasoning effort for every role, and nothing is written until the user applies a row or clicks "Apply all".
The work is split so that the language model judges and code decides:
src/codex/role-sizing.ts. For each role it returns a capability tier (fast/standard/frontier) and an effort (glance/measured/thorough/exhaustive), with a one-line rationale and move-up and move-down triggers. It never names a model. Output that fails validation marks the role "not sized" and is not guessed.model_reasoning_effort, and it is written through the same byte-preserving writer asmodel.API:
POST /api/codex-agent-roles/auto-assignis a read-only proposal, and applying goes through the existingPUT. CLI:ocx agent roles suggest [--apply].Why the rubric is its own module
Sizing a run is a question opencodex already answers by hand in several places: the subagent default model, fallback chains, combo targets, and compaction or helper routing. Each place picks a model without a shared rule for how much capability the job needs. This PR applies the rubric to one narrow surface where the output is reviewable before anything changes. The rubric and the mapper take no dependency on omo or on role files, so a later surface can import them. The one I'd try next is the subagent default model on the Subagents page. PR 3 of this series will make that case, and I'll ask you there whether it is worth taking. This PR and #6262 are the ones I'm asking to merge.

Scoped to omo (Codex / LazyCodex)
After the variant split in #6262, auto-assign lives in the Codex tab's LazyCodex section.
POST /api/codex-agent-roles/auto-assignreturns409 lazycodex_not_detectedwithout LazyCodex, before it reads the request body or calls the sizing model, andocx agent roles suggestpasses that refusal through (362fbe3cc,66f8309fd,5d9816fba). A live run with a fake LazyCodex footprint and a stub sizing upstream returned 3 proposals and 1 unsized role. With the plugin disabled, POST and PUT both returned 409, the stub was never called, and the Codex tab showed no section. Targeted tests: 190 pass, 0 fail; GUI typecheck, 21 component tests,lint:i18nand build are green.Checklist
I'd appreciate a merge once #6262 is in.
