Summary

Combined host-redaction hardening for lab evidence sanitization, merging three overlapping fork PRs that all touch src/lab/artifacts/sanitize.ts:

  • Bare hosts after socket errors: resolver/socket markers (ENOTFOUND, ECONNREFUSED, ETIMEDOUT, EHOSTUNREACH, dial tcp, lookup, host) license a bare destination name only where grammar proves the position — the marker's sole argument or the argument of lookup. Connective prose after a marker (ETIMEDOUT while waiting for response) survives.
  • Bare connect-to failure destinations: connect to gateway failed / connecting to redis timed out redact the bare target when a failure term follows; connect to your account stays prose. Also fixes a shared defect: rewrites now splice at the tail offset, so a marker word that repeats the destination (connect to connect failed, host host) no longer takes the [host] itself.
  • Digit-suffixed upstream hosts: DOTTED_NAMESPACE_RE narrowed so only plain alphabetic runs and the conventional *.metric.p<digits> shape count as namespaces — upstream db.prod1 is now redacted while upstream provider.metric.p95 survives.

Tests

  • bun test tests/lab/lab-evidence-sanitization.test.ts — 31 pass

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Improved diagnostic sanitization for hostnames and network destinations in connection errors.
    • Redacts destinations more reliably across socket errors, lookup failures, ports, and connect to failure messages.
    • Prevents repeated marker words from interfering with destination redaction.
    • Preserves surrounding explanatory text and recognized namespace patterns when they are not destinations.
  • Documentation

    • Updated sanitization guidance and known limitations to reflect refined detection and redaction behavior.

…nect-to failures

Combines three fork PRs into one change on current dev: bare destinations after resolver/socket markers are redacted only where grammar proves the position (sole argument or after 'lookup'), connect-to failures redact the bare target when a failure term follows, and rewrites splice at the tail offset so a marker word that repeats the destination cannot take the [host] itself.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The sanitizer now narrows namespace exemptions, recognizes socket-marker contexts, and redacts destinations using token offsets. Documentation and tests cover bare destinations, connective prose, failure terms, digit-suffixed labels, and repeated marker words.

Changes

Host redaction behavior

Layer / File(s) Summary
Contextual host detection and redaction
src/lab/artifacts/sanitize.ts
Namespace exemptions now distinguish alphabetic dotted namespaces and *.metric.p<digits> forms. Socket markers license bare destinations only in defined argument positions. connect to <target> is redacted when followed by a network failure term. Token-offset replacement handles repeated marker words.
Documented behavior and regression coverage
structure/adapters/compatibility-lab.md, tests/lab/lab-evidence-sanitization.test.ts
Documentation records the updated confidence rules and known limits. Tests cover socket markers, weak markers, connective prose, failure terms, digit-suffixed labels, and repeated marker words.

소켓·해석 오류(ECONNREFUSED, ETIMEDOUT 같은 것) 뒤에 오는 짧은 목적지 이름을 [host]로 바꿉니다. connect to gateway failed처럼 실패 말이 바로 따라올 때도 목적지를 가립니다. connect to your account 같은 일반 문장은 그대로 둡니다. upstream db.prod1은 가리고, upstream provider.metric.p95는 남깁니다. 작성자가 합쳤다고 한 포크 PR(luvs01 #248, #249, #253)은 이미 닫혀 있어요.

분류 전에 끝 마침표만 떼고, 가릴 때는 이름만 [host]로 바꾸며 마침표는 남겨야 해요. sanitizeDiagnostic("ECONNREFUSED redis.") → ECONNREFUSED [host].

Classify the token without its trailing period and leave the period outside the mask: ECONNREFUSED redis. -> ECONNREFUSED [host]. Previously the punctuation defeated host classification and leaked the destination.

Applied on a74038c:

  • Trailing-period leak fixed: the token is classified without its sentence-final period and the period stays outside the mask — sanitizeDiagnostic("ECONNREFUSED redis.") now returns ECONNREFUSED [host]., and dial tcp db.prod1. redacts the same way. Regression assertions added to lab-evidence-sanitization.test.ts (31 tests pass on this head).
  • Provenance clarification: the combined contribution is recorded by upstream commits 69990d99d341457a2fe3f3276b9a89814046c57a and a74038cb9e3e8ff2eaee87b49acd6a2466b839c2, with original attribution preserved. The earlier repository-qualified private references in this reply are superseded by these public commit identifiers. The stale creation-denied paragraph was removed from the submission.

Consolidated into #5538 as a single related-function aggregate.

Source head: 6f927bae572c4e8dc302bd355385038d0a3d3716. Replacement head: 62c677c05d880a5c231bb4efd35b7f8bb637d16f.

Both unique source commits, including the review follow-up, match carried commits by stable Git patch ID. All affected runtime and test files match the source head exactly at the replacement head; merge-only source commits have no additional combined diff. The combined changed-file run passed 85 tests / 376 assertions; typecheck, structure, privacy and standalone size-ratchet checks passed. Full suite, hosted cross-platform CI and independent review remain pending.

Closing this duplicate standalone review entry at the author's request after verifying migration. This is not a merge or release claim; remaining integration checks and reviews are tracked on the draft replacement. Original branches are retained.
