Summary

  • Cursor live discovery admitted synthetic ultra rows (<base>-1m picker markers such as kimi-k3-1m, kept in configured by legacy pins or retain lists) on base availability alone, so an account whose plan lacks Max Mode still saw the row in its catalog.
  • filterCursorConfiguredModelsByLiveDiscovery now takes the discovered Max Mode roster and requires a synthetic row's base to appear in it; ordinary rows are unchanged, and discovery failures still bypass the filter under the existing degraded-catalog policy.
  • The provider fetch passes liveResult.maxModeModels (the GetUsableModels.maxMode flags already decoded for the resolver's ultra gate) into the filter.

Verification

  • bun test tests/providers/cursor/cursor-ultra-mode.test.ts tests/providers/cursor/cursor-discovery.test.ts tests/providers/cursor/cursor-uncallable-quarantine.test.ts — 32 pass / 0 fail, including a new case that hides the synthetic row when live discovery reports no Max Mode for the base.
  • bun test tests/codex-integration/codex-catalog.test.ts — 339 pass / 0 fail.
  • bun test tests/ci-workflows/structure-ssot.test.ts — 51 pass / 0 fail.
  • bun x tsc --noEmit — clean.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults.

Review readiness checklist

This PR stays in draft until every box below is ticked. Tick all four boxes once the requirements are met:

  • All CI tests are green on my local testing.

  • I pushed my PR to the latest dev commit.

  • I resolved all correct Codex and CodeRabbit findings.

  • My PR is ready for review.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Cursor’s synthetic Ultra/1M model options are now shown only when the account has both access to the underlying model and the required Max Mode capability.
    • Accounts without Max Mode will continue to see the standard model option, while unavailable Ultra/1M options remain hidden.
  • Documentation

    • Updated Cursor provider documentation to clarify the availability requirements for synthetic Ultra model options.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Synthetic Cursor ultra rows now require both live base-model discovery and account-specific Max Mode availability. The provider catalog passes Max Mode data to the filter, with tests and documentation covering the updated behavior.

Changes

Cursor Max Mode filtering

Layer / File(s) Summary
Max Mode-aware discovery filtering
src/adapters/cursor/discovery.ts, src/codex/catalog/provider-models.ts
The filter accepts maxModeLiveIds and requires synthetic ultra rows to match both the live model roster and the Max Mode list. The provider catalog passes liveResult.maxModeModels to the filter.
Behavior validation and documentation
tests/providers/cursor/cursor-ultra-mode.test.ts, structure/providers/cursor.md
Tests cover retaining kimi-k3-1m only when kimi-k3-max appears in the account Max Mode list. The provider documentation records the same visibility rule.

Accounts without Max Mode can still be shown an unusable synthetic Ultra model in an all-filtered catalog. This should be fixed before merge.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Do not restore synthetic ultra rows after successful filtering.

At Line 380, an empty available result restores configured even though liveResult.ok is true. If an account configures only kimi-k3-1m, discovery finds kimi-k3, and maxModeModels is empty, the new filter returns [] but this fallback republishes kimi-k3-1m.

Use the filtered result for successful discovery, including an empty result. Keep the static fallback only for degraded discovery paths. Add a provider-catalog regression test for this empty-filter case.
