Ferrite Core v3.0.1 Testnet 4
On this testnet, DGWv3, Taproot and MWEB are all enabled. Developers can use v4.3.0.1 to test mining or features in anticipation of future feature rollout on Ferrite mainnet. Ferrite Core v4.3.0.1-t is based off v3.0.1.
DarkGravityWave v3 DAA - Adjusts block difficulty by time, exponentially weighted every 24 blocks. Should not affect existing pool compatibility. Part of hard fork of Ferrite mainnet at height 250,000, compatible with only Ferrite Core v3+ wallets.
Dark Gravity Wave (DGW) is a new algorithm designed to address certain flaws such as the time warp attack in the KGW algorithm. This concept was first introduced in Dash, previously known as Darkcoin. It makes use of multiple exponential moving averages and simple move averages to achieve a smoother readjustment mechanism.
Taproot - BIP-0341 - Allows for smart contracts and multi-signature transactions on Ferrite network.
Taproot on top of that lets us merge the traditionally separate pay-to-pubkey and pay-to-scripthash policies, making all outputs spendable by either a key or (optionally) a script, and indistinguishable from each other. As long as the key-based spending path is used for spending, it is not revealed whether a script path was permitted as well, resulting in space savings and an increase in scripting privacy at spending time.
Taproot's advantages become apparent under the assumption that most applications involve outputs that could be spent by all parties agreeing.
MimbleWimble - LIP-0003 - A new transaction format using extension blocks. Soft fork enabled at an undefined future height, ~500k+ (2025+) Ensures fungibility by providing financial privacy by creating private transactions, preventing funds from being publicly traced by allowing for plausible deniability.
Due to the nature of a transparent ledger, transaction history can be publicly traced. This hinders Litecoin’s fungibility in several ways. Personal identifiable information collected from IP address, exchanges, or merchants can be leaked then tied to your addresses. Also services, such as chain analysis, provide risk-scores based on whether or not any addresses that they have blacklisted appear in its transactional history. This results in some businesses treating these coins as “tainted” and then sending them back to the owner, or worse yet, shutting down their account. This hinders Litecoin’s functional fungibility in a government regulated merchant world.
Note: Testnet can be resetted at any time and are intended to have zero value for testing purposes. The difficulty can also be set to a near-zero number at any time.
