Intent

Invocation tokens should work like webhook secrets: the URL names the owner and package, and the bearer proves access to that package only.

Summary

  • Each token row belongs to exactly one saved package (package_id). Auth resolves @username + kodyId from the path, then looks up (user_id, package_id, token_hash).
  • Token CRUD lives on package details (/account/packages/:packageId). The standalone account token page is gone.
  • MCP package_invocation_token_list requires package_id; package_get includes tokens.
  • Migration 0017-package-owned-invocation-tokens.sql maps single-package grants, explodes concrete multi-package grants (including mixed id + kody-id arrays) into one row per owned package (same hash), and drops * / unmapped rows. (0016 on main is already drop-package-service-states.)
  • ADR 0026.
  • Empty source allowlists are labeled Unlabeled only (not Any): a named request source must be on the list; omit source or send null when the list is empty.

Rebased onto current main.

Production cutover (already done, except applying 0017):

  • Do not apply 0017 until this worker deploys. Older workers still read grant columns.
  • Both live * tokens were rewritten to ["raycast"] so 0017 will map them.
  • @kentcdodds/raycast now exposes ./invoke so HTTP clients stay on one package and packages.invoke enters the target runtime.

Testing

  • Focused node-unit: HTTP/service invoke, 0017 migration (including mixed grant arrays), MCP token capabilities, account packages token CRUD, package delete, client router, entity explainer.
  • Empty source lists: named source returns source_not_allowed; omitted source succeeds.
  • Community-flow workers-unit provisions the token table so package_get can list tokens.
  • GitHub Validate is green on d69c5d11 (Static, Node, Workers, MCP, E2E). Bugbot passed on that head; CodeRabbit is rate-limited.
  • CodeRabbit findings addressed: copy-once raw token, package_id on mutations, mixed-array 0017. A leftover explainer import of the removed route 500'd account/community HTML; that is fixed.
  • Bugbot: empty sources labeled Any while auth rejects named sources. Package details now say Unlabeled only; docs and MCP schema match.
  • Preview (https://kody-pr-1553.kody-a99.workers.dev) as seed user me@kentcdodds.com / user-me:
    • GET /account/package-invocation-tokens → 404
    • POST /account/packages.json without packageId → 400 Package id is required.
    • POST /account/packages.json with an unknown packageId → 404 Package not found.
    • Packages HTML loads; account nav has Packages and no Package tokens item
    • Seed account has no packages (preview community is empty), so create/revoke/invoke on a real package was not exercised in preview

System changes

System recap — extends existing primitives (medium risk)

Mode: recap · Base: main @ f39bcd21 · Head: d69c5d11

Classification: extends — token schema, HTTP auth, account UI, and MCP metadata change contract.

Primitives touched

Primitive Group Impact
saved-packages assistant extends — path + (user, package, hash) auth; MCP list/get is per-package; package delete removes tokens
d1-app-db storage extends — 0017 replaces grant JSON with required package_id
app-ui surfaces extends — token CRUD on package details; standalone token page removed; empty sources labeled Unlabeled only
webhooks assistant composes — internal webhook token carries the endpoint's packageId
workflows assistant composes — workflow invoke token carries the workflow package id
community-listings assistant composes — community-flow test D1 provisions the token table

Unmatched packages/worker/src/package-invocations/* is the HTTP invoke path for saved packages (no separate primitive).

Change flow

External HTTP invoke resolves the owner and package from the URL, then proves the bearer against that package only.

	savedPackages->>d1AppDb: SELECT token WHERE user_id, package_id, token_hash
Note over savedPackages: export and source allowlists stay in-package
appUi->>d1AppDb: create or revoke token on /account/packages/:packageId
savedPackages->>savedPackages: nested packages.invoke skips bearer grants
Loading

Before / after

before: token_hash unique globally; package_ids_json / package_kody_ids_json grants (including *); /account/package-invocation-tokens
after: UNIQUE(user_id, package_id, token_hash); required package_id; /account/packages/:packageId

Invariants

  • per-user-isolation — lookup is (user_id, package_id, token_hash) after the path names the owner. There is no global hash index.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Invocation tokens are now managed directly from each package’s details page.
    • Tokens are scoped to a single package, with configurable export and source restrictions.
    • Package details and package_get now display token metadata without exposing secrets.
    • Added support for creating, updating, revoking, reinstating, and deleting package tokens.
  • Documentation

    • Updated setup guides, API documentation, architecture references, and migration decisions for package-scoped tokens.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Improved authorization so tokens cannot be used across unrelated packages.
    • Package deletion now removes its associated invocation tokens.

Changes

Package-owned invocation tokens

Layer / File(s) Summary
Schema and migration
packages/worker/migrations/0017-package-owned-invocation-tokens.sql, packages/worker/src/package-invocations/repo.ts, packages/worker/src/package-invocations/test-schema.ts
Tokens now require one package_id. Migration 0017 converts legacy package arrays into owned rows and adds package-scoped indexes.
Invocation authentication
packages/worker/src/package-invocations/http.ts, packages/worker/src/package-invocations/http-invoke.ts, packages/worker/src/package-invocations/common.ts
Authentication resolves the route owner and package, then matches (user_id, package_id, token_hash). Authorization requires an exact package match.
Account package management
packages/worker/src/app/account-package-tokens.ts, packages/worker/src/app/handlers/account-packages.ts, packages/worker/src/app/account-packages-data.ts, packages/worker/universal/loader-data.ts
Token lifecycle actions now use /account/packages.json. Package details include redacted token metadata and invocation URL context.
Package detail interface
packages/worker/client/routes/account-package-tokens.tsx, packages/worker/client/routes/account-packages.tsx, packages/worker/universal/routes.ts, packages/worker/client/routes/*
Token creation, editing, revocation, reinstatement, deletion, and listing moved into package details. Standalone token routes and navigation were removed.
MCP and setup documentation
packages/worker/src/mcp/capabilities/packages/*, packages/worker/src/package-invocations/public-url.ts, docs/contributing/*, docs/guides/*, docs/use/packages.md
MCP token capabilities and setup links now use saved package IDs and expose package-scoped metadata without bearer values or hashes.

Merge Risk: 🟠 High · up to ca2fa

This PR changes how invocation tokens are migrated, authorized, and managed per package. Valid legacy grants can be lost during migration, and a token ID from another package can be modified through package-scoped actions, creating authorization and data-integrity risks. These issues should be fixed before merge.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift

Preserve grants from both legacy package arrays.

A token with package_ids_json = ["pkg-a"] and package_kody_ids_json = ["beta"] receives package_id = "pkg-a" at Lines 11-20. Both expansion queries then exclude it with WHERE t.package_id IS NULL. The grant for the package with Kody ID beta is lost during migration.

Build a distinct union of resolved package IDs from both legacy arrays before rebuilding the table. Retain the original token ID for one resolved package and generate IDs for the other rows. Add this mixed-array case to the migration test.

As per coding guidelines, every signed-in user gets a fully isolated assistant with own packages.

Tokens are looked up as (user, package, hash) after the URL names the owner

Empty sources reject named request sources, so the package details list
