Closing — diagnosed as causing pr-ready-check regressions on this repo:

Diagnostic findings (2026-05-25 session, on top of #206 + #204 merged)

vitest 4.1.5 → 4.1.7 in this batch hangs the suite. vitest 4.1.7 changelog (vitest-dev/vitest#10384) introduced "runner: Limit concurrency per task branch in addition to per leaf callbacks (backport)". vitest 4.1.6 also changed concurrency semantics (deprecated the sequential API). Our @variscout/ui suite (~223 files, ~2140 tests, baseline 86.59s) hangs at 100% CPU on a single worker fork past the 240s + 300s + 600s kill thresholds I tried.

Pinning vitest to exact 4.1.5 (locally on the branch) was insufficient. pr-ready-check still completed at 24:25 (5x baseline) with 2 unspecified steps failed. Suspect: turbo 2.9.6 → 2.9.14 in the same batch, possibly combined with @vitest/coverage-v8 peer resolution leftover lockfile entries.

Other 10 dev-dep bumps in this batch (typescript-eslint 8.59.1→8.59.4, globals 17.5.0→17.6.0, etc.) were never validated independently because the vitest/turbo regression masked everything.

Suggested next cycle

When dependabot regenerates the npm-dev group:

  • vitest should stay pinned at 4.1.5 (or jump to whatever post-4.1.7 release reverts the concurrency change, likely 4.1.8+ — re-check changelog at that time)
  • turbo bump should be evaluated independently from vitest changes
  • The 8–10 other dev deps in the original batch are likely safe individually
