Runtime search and suggestions use platform-aware mappings. Package resolution exposes version and platform overrides. CLI tests cover backend queries, fallbacks, overrides, deduplication, and unsupported packages. ChangesAqua backend search
Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~45 minutes Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to This change adds Aqua-backed Cargo and Go suggestions to search and not-found flows, but the current head may still omit valid default backend matches, show a backend that installation would not select on some platforms, or suggest a version-specific backend for incompatible versions. These correctness issues should be resolved or explicitly accepted before merging. Sequence Diagram(s)sequenceDiagram

version_constraintonly.version_overridealso requires the effectiveversion_prefixto match before it selects an override. An override withversion_prefix: old_vandversion_constraint: "true"is conditional, but this method selects it for every version.The registry generator uses this result to publish a generic runnable backend. It can therefore suggest an
old_v-only Cargo or Go backend for packages that resolve to another backend. Represent the absence of an unconditional fallback explicitly, then omit the generic backend in that case. Add coverage for an override-level and root-levelversion_prefix.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Not in the aqua standard registry as a GitHub release package, so `github` is
the tier 1 backend.
Every version `mise ls-remote` resolves for this tool is a strict
`MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH` -- a single legacy `0.13.5b` tag is filtered out -- hence
`version_order = "semver"`.
## bin_path
broot publishes one universal `broot_<version>.zip` rather than per-platform
assets, with each build under a Rust target-triple directory
(`aarch64-apple-darwin/broot`, `x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/broot`,
`x86_64-pc-windows-gnu/broot.exe`, ...) alongside non-binary directories such as
`completion/` and `default-conf/`. Without `bin_path`, autodetection picks an
arbitrary target directory and the selected binary fails to execute. Since the
directory names are exactly Rust target triples, one templated `bin_path` covers
every platform rather than a per-platform table:
macos-arm64 -> aarch64-apple-darwin
linux-x64 -> x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
linux-arm64 -> aarch64-unknown-linux-gnu
windows-x64 -> x86_64-pc-windows-gnu
Upstream ships no `x86_64-apple-darwin` build, so intel macos is not covered by
the release archive; `cargo:broot` remains available for that case.
## e2e/cli/test_search
`test_search` used broot as its example of an aqua Cargo package translated into
a runnable `cargo:` backend (added in jdx#12225, "suggest compatible package
backends"). Adding this shorthand makes `mise search broot` return the registry
entry instead, so the test needed updating.
Rather than rewrite those assertions to expect the shorthand -- which would
remove the coverage jdx#12225 added -- the aqua Cargo subject is moved to
`wasmi_cli`, which is in the aqua registry under `crates.io/` with no mise
shorthand and behaves identically. Assertions for the broot shorthand are added
alongside, mirroring the existing `tokei` block.
If you would rather keep broot as that example, this entry can be dropped
instead -- happy either way.

## e2e test updates
broot was the example of an aqua Cargo package translated into a runnable
`cargo:` backend, used in two tests added by jdx#12225 ("suggest compatible package
backends"):
- `e2e/cli/test_search` asserted `mise search broot` returns `cargo:broot`
- `e2e/cli/test_did_you_mean` asserted `mise use broot` fails and suggests
`cargo:broot`
Adding this shorthand makes broot a real registry tool, so `mise search broot`
returns the entry and `mise use broot` now succeeds. Rather than rewrite those
assertions -- which would remove the coverage jdx#12225 added -- both subjects move
to `wasmi_cli`, which is in the aqua registry under `crates.io/` with no mise
shorthand and behaves identically:
$ mise use wasmi_cli
mise ERROR Failed to install wasmi_cli@latest: wasmi_cli not found in mise tool registry
Did you mean?
wasmtime
wasmer
cargo:wasmi_cli
An exact-match assertion for the broot shorthand is added to `test_search`,
matching the style used for `jq` and `7zip`.

$ mise use wasmi_cli
mise ERROR Failed to install wasmi_cli@latest: wasmi_cli not found in mise tool registry
Did you mean?
wasmtime
wasmer
cargo:wasmi_cli
An exact-match assertion for the broot shorthand is added to `test_search`,
matching the style used for `jq` and `7zip`.
If you would rather keep broot as that example, this entry can be dropped
instead -- happy either way.
