736-752: 🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🔵 Trivial | 🏗️ Heavy liftAll publication now waits for the slowest action-result lookup.
prefetch_predictionsresolves every prediction before it callsprefetch_resolved_actions. Previously each action downloaded and published as soon as it resolved, so an adapter could get a complete prefetched action early. Now no action is published until every lookup in the run finishes. A manifest may hold up toMAX_TASK_ACTION_PREDICTIONS(16384) predictions, so one slow or retrying action-result request delays publication for all of them. The foreground path stays correct, because
find_action_resultfalls back to the remote lookup andfind_blobfalls back to individual transfers. The cost is lost prefetch benefit, not incorrect results.Consider draining
resolvedin bounded batches and callingprefetch_resolved_actionsper batch. That keeps the packing benefit while publishing early results promptly.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

916-1005: 🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winCAS ingest of pack blobs is fully sequential.
The
for (digest, source) in pack.blobsloop ingests one blob at a time. Each iteration takes a per-digest write lock, callsfind_verified_blob(which hashes the existing file), and then callscas.store_verified_file. Both steps are I/O bound and CPU bound on hashing. The fallback path at Line 995 uses
buffer_unordered(MAX_PREFETCH_TRANSFERS), so individual downloads ingest concurrently. A pack that carries thousands of blobs now serializes work the previous path parallelized, which can make the packed path slower to complete than the path it replaces even though it uses far fewer requests.Consider driving the ingest through a bounded
buffer_unorderedstream, as the fallback does, and collecting the digests that must remain inmissing.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

1032-1076: 🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🔵 Trivial | 🏗️ Heavy liftValidation repeats the full output-tree walk and re-hashes every blob.
prefetch_resolved_actionsalready parsed every directory in the wave loop and already confirmed each blob throughfind_verified_blobduring ingest.validate_prefetched_actionthen walks the same tree again, re-reads and re-parses each directory JSON, and callsfind_verified_blobfor every file, which hashes each file a second time. For a large restored output tree this doubles the hashing and JSON parsing work on the prefetch path.
The completeness check before publication is correct and should stay. Consider carrying the parsed directories and the set of confirmed digests out of the wave loop and validating against that in-memory state, so the second full pass over disk is avoided.

- The path where capabilities advertise
blob_packsbutPOST /v1/blobs:packanswers404/405/501. That path setsblob_packs_disabledand permanently stops pack attempts for the client lifetime. It is the only branch that mutates persistent client state.- Frame-level integrity rejection: a frame truncated before

download_timeoutfor whole-pack transfers.
tokio::time::timeout(self.download_timeout, download)covers the retry loop and the full streamed pack. A pack can carry up tolimits.max_pack_bytes, which the protocol documents as 100 GiB, while the samedownload_timeoutpreviously covered a single blob. On slow links the pack request can time out where the equivalent single-blob downloads would each have fit inside the deadline. Every timeout then discards the whole chunk and falls back to individual reads.Consider scaling the deadline by the requested chunk bytes, or relying on the client
read_timeoutfor stall detection instead of a fixed whole-transfer deadline.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Instruction countsNothing was compared, and so nothing was gated. No series appears on both sides: either the base has no measurements recorded, or the two were measured on different runner classes, which are deliberately not comparable — counts shift between machine types by more than a real regression does. New, nothing to compare against: Only instruction counts gate. Wall clock is shown for context — on identical hardware it moves 4-20% run to run. Measured by tak — instruction-counted CLI benchmarks, stored in this repository's git notes.

Summary
blob_packscapability and advertised item/byte limitsWhy
The aube qualification on mise 2026.8.8 restored every predicted action, but made 3,076 individual blob requests. Prefetch consumed 506.20 seconds of the 527.48-second cache session, while cumulative local CAS writes and materialization accounted for only 6.39 seconds.
The production cache server already supports streamed blob packs. Grouping the known action objects and each discovered directory wave removes the per-object HTTP round trips without changing CAS identity or action-result semantics. A typical shallow Rust output graph now needs roughly two or three pack requests instead of thousands of blob GETs.

Note
Medium Risk
Touches remote cache transfer and prefetch correctness (pack parsing, completeness checks before storing actions); failures degrade to per-blob GETs rather than changing CAS semantics.
Overview
Remote action prefetch now resolves predicted actions concurrently, batches up to 256 resolved actions (with a short coalesce delay), then downloads CAS objects in waves—first top-level digests, then directory trees—using
POST /v1/blobs:packwhen the server advertisesblob_packs, with per-wave caps and validation before publishing to the local action cache.RemoteCacheClientgains capability negotiation (/v1/capabilities), streamingMISEPK01pack decode with digest verification, chunking against server limits, scaled timeouts, and disabling packs after a failed endpoint; missing or omitted blobs still use concurrent single-blob GETs.Observability:
