fix(aqua): error instead of returning a wrong checksum on filename mismatch - #11973
Conversation
…smatch When a multi-platform checksum file has no line matching the target asset filename, parse_checksum_from_content silently fell back to treating the whole file as the checksum, then grabbed whatever token happened to be first. This wrote a plausible-looking but wrong checksum to the lockfile instead of failing loudly. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughChecksum retrieval now logs lookup failures. Checksum parsing selects the requested filename, accepts bare checksums when no entries exist, and errors when a checksum list lacks the requested filename. Tests cover mismatch errors and bare checksum acceptance. ChangesChecksum parsing
Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes Mergeability Score: ⚪ Minimal · up to The change makes filename mismatches fail instead of producing an incorrect checksum while preserving valid bare-checksum handling; no actionable merge-blocking risk remains after normal checks and review. Greptile SummaryThis PR makes Aqua checksum parsing reject checksum manifests that contain filename entries but lack the requested asset, while preserving bare-checksum support.
Confidence Score: 4/5The PR is not yet safe to merge because checksum filename mismatches still allow lock generation to complete with the platform checksum omitted. The parser now reports the mismatch correctly, but Files Needing Attention: src/backend/aqua.rs Important Files Changed

checksum_str fallback so that when pattern.file is configured but matches no

file_format "regexp" with a non-matching pattern.file, preserving the existing
bare-checksum behavior when no filename constraint is configured.

The cross-platform lock-resolution caller used .ok().flatten() to turn any checksum-file error into a bare None, so the new filename-mismatch error introduced in the previous commit would have made mise lock silently succeed with a missing checksum instead of surfacing why. Log a warning so the mismatch is still visible. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Good catch — fixed in 54d60b1. The lock-resolution caller (`fetch_checksum_from_file` at the `AquaBackend::get_metadata`/version-resolution call site around line 899) was swallowing any error from `fetch_checksum_from_file` via `.ok().flatten()`, so the new filename-mismatch error would have made `mise lock` silently succeed with a missing checksum instead of surfacing why. It now logs a warning on error while still falling back to `None` so lock generation doesn't hard-fail when a checksum genuinely isn't available for a platform. file_format: "regexp" checksum files had their own line-selection step ahead of the raw-entries fallback. When that step found no line for the requested filename, it fell through to running the checksum pattern against the whole (still multi-entry) file, which could extract some other line's digest instead of erroring — bypassing the mismatch check added in the prior commit. Summary
AquaBackend::parse_checksum_from_contentparses a downloaded checksum file (e.g.checksums.txtlisting hashes for every platform's asset) looking for the line matching the target filename. When no line matched, it silently fell back to.unwrap_or(checksum_file)— treating the entire raw file content as the checksum, then grabbing whatever whitespace-split token came first. This produces a plausible-looking but wrong checksum instead of failing. This surfaced as a side-effect in #11909: once claude-code's release asset filename resolution changed,
mise lockkept succeeding but silently wrote a wrong checksum for every platform, because no line in the checksums file matched the (now different) filename mise was looking for.Fix
<hash> <filename>entries from the checksum file first.regexp-format file already reduced to just the hash), keep the existing fallback — this is a legitimate format with nothing to disambiguate against.Test plan
