I think this has been a long time coming. The requirement for an entity on a button always struck me as odd and I have been forced to put an entity on this card even though the action it was going to do had nothing to do with the entity I was required to put on it.
entity-buttonstill works, so not a breaking change.docs: home-assistant/home-assistant.io#11895
