--include Vagrantfile is an optional parameter, but not including a Vagrantfile leaves me with a broken configuration.

Vagrant should be either robust for boxes without a Vagrantfile or complain on the lack of a Vagrantfile.

Good catch. We're still working on a way to make it so that this won't be necessary (such as automatically generated a bare bones Vagrantfile which includes the MAC address and so on).

I'll keep this issue updated.

An auto-generated Vagrantfile with the mac address is packaged with vagrant package, meaning the command can be run on its own now =] (well, in master!)

This feature will be available in 0.3.0.
