Reverts #153
The above PR has breaking changes that I released as a patch version. This inadvertently had the effect of being automatically picked up by people using this provider who didn't have their version locked at a specific patch release.
I will follow this PR with a patch release to revert the changes, then follow with a minor release re-adding the PR and including a deprecation path.
