Summary

Preserve the exact source declaration selected during inference through Rust emission, and lower through std.primitive_projection only when that declaration has an explicit primitive realization. This removes the three leaf-spelling re-lookup seams (plain calls, generic-method bridges, and callable-field selection) that could turn an explicitly imported v2 callable into an unrelated same-named v1_rt builtin.

The repair also closes three prerequisite carrier/routing defects exposed while regenerating the compiler:

  • ExprCall is cross-referencing data, so call-initialized product data routes to the existing typed-expression emitter instead of the literal/mock path.
  • AdmissionBearingDeclarationUnavailable retains its exact owner/declaration identity, and FuncSigResolved carries its owner from lookup instead of making an admission oracle serve as an identity surrogate.
  • Parent function environments implement the existing direct_import_export_precedence_note authority: own declarations plus direct import lists, without transitive parent-local leaks. Selective views from overlapping import closures are unioned per real owner before deduplication, preserving both declaration identity and precedence.

The old emitter spelling lookup masked a live resolver defect: v1.compiler.dag_collect_support imported only escape_json_string but received its parent's unimported to_string(Int). Integer conversion happened to type-check; Boolean conversion exposed the wrong binding after the mask was removed. The import-aware resolver excludes it. The narrowing census initially reported three type mismatches in explicitly imported functions; no corpus call sites were changed. They identified an over-narrow first-view-wins implementation, and union-before-dedup reduced the final census to zero.

This is resolve-once/consume-identity, not a runtime/source tier reorder and not persistence of source_visible_names for a second emitter lookup. v1_rt does not participate in source-language name precedence. map_insert remains deliberately unclassified: its host-binding row and authored modeled body are dual authority outside this PR.

Two typed-payload collapses and their carrier root are repaired here. The local sweep found zero additional collapses within ConstructorDeclarationLookup's two call-identity consumers; the wider emission path was not swept. Its diagnostic consumer already uses unavailable identity plus cause to refuse with location. FunctionValue -> Undetermined is not another instance because function-value semantics are carried on a separate axis and do not enter target selection.

All final mirror changes were produced by the fixed .dag pipeline. Temporary bootstrap edits used to regain the regeneration entry point were replaced wholesale by the generated candidate.

Controls

The witness module contains five original boundary controls:

  • two-string substring contains remains runtime-bound;
  • intentionally primitive-bound empty_map remains runtime-bound by declaration identity;
  • imported generic contains retains its source declaration;
  • divergent map_get retains its declared Outcome<Optional<V>> identity;
  • an unrelated same-named declaration never becomes a runtime primitive.

Six new discriminators cover the defects exposed by the repair:

  • call-initialized product data reaches typed call emission;
  • an unavailable declaration retains exact call identity;
  • an ordinary resolved signature carries the owner used for primitive projection;
  • a named selective function import is admitted;
  • a selective parent view contains the admitted local and excludes the unlisted local;
  • overlapping selective views of one real owner union their admitted signatures before deduplication.

This PR does not claim that an unimported globally unique function is uncallable end to end: after a parent miss, lookup_func_sig still falls through to the global-bare census, whose listed-import guard is currently hard-coded to trim. That broader admission defect and its end-to-end RED were split into their own dashboard work item.

Verification

  • claim_executor --required-regen --source-root dag --source-root src/v2: PASS, first_generation_equal=true, planned/executed 134/134, one declared divergence: the pre-existing registered main.rs exception, excluded from the equality comparison by construction.
  • Regenerated mirror inspection: exactly one occurrence of call target identity was not established, the emitter's own diagnostic literal; zero executable emitted refusal sites. Both LiteralValue::LitInt and LitBool use their native conversion in the regenerated dag_collect_support mirror.
  • Canonical pre-install regeneration census: PASS, 134/134 emitted with zero hard diagnostics after owner-view union (the expected first-generation drift candidate).
  • Focused declaration controls: PASS for primitive-bound empty_map, imported generic contains, and divergent map_get. Their earlier failures were fixture-closure/parse refusals, so they had not reached their emission assertions; adding the missing virtual closure input and return annotation made the subject executable.
  • Evidence split, corrected after the first GitHub floor run exposed the source-root boundary: eight black-box compile_dag_rust_emit_check rows remain enrolled under dag/test; three white-box compiler-internal rows passed by direct authoring-time execution on 2026-08-24 but are not CI-enrolled. A regression in those three is therefore silent, as declared in their src/v1/tests/claim note; the earlier “11/11 focused batch” wording incorrectly presented unlike evidence as one executing set.
  • Historical combined remote provenance: BuildBuddy invocation 2db5cad2-ffa7-4494-af41-243eeb47c8ed built 978da1fc73c, proved required-regeneration equality, and executed all eleven rows directly in one amd64 dispatch. The current head additionally carries the compiler-produced mirror for the relocated three-row internal witness; its required-CI rerun is the current merge gate.
  • GitHub CI: pending on the current generated head.

Modeling notes

DivergentProjection choosing the source declaration is an emission choice, not resolution of the underlying modeling divergence. The map_insert host-binding/body contradiction remains flagged and unchanged.

Resolver narrowing and migration

The parent-environment change deliberately removes bare-pool coincidence as a binding source: a name is admitted only from the module's own declarations or its direct import lists. This is a corpus-wide resolver narrowing, not an incidental side effect of the projection relocation; pool coincidence is a second positional naming scheme for declarations whose namespace identity is already explicit, and is therefore unsound under DESIGN §3.

The first floor run enumerated four exercised consumers of the narrowed boundary: Empty in serving_privilege_derivation_witness_test, length in spark_bootstrap_provision_witness_test, and the verdict/workspace_band_paints resolution failures reported by the floor. The first two are now explicit-import migrations; the latter two remain under investigation as resolver-exposed consumers rather than being papered over with speculative imports. The floor population is therefore measured as four exercised sites, while the complete corpus population is not claimed exhaustive by floor coverage alone.

The floor's one-run measurement at 32611811529 reports names_total=85889 ambiguous bare-name resolutions (worst scope 123), across 971 of 1358 scope constructions; those 1358 constructions equalled 1358 distinct scopes in that run. The instrument defines these as bare names two transitively-reached modules both spell, resolved by scope precedence because a bare-name registry cannot hold both — a resolution nothing the author wrote authorizes. This establishes the measured structural blast radius without claiming a fixed corpus constant; the four sites above are only exercised failures migrated here, not an exhaustive census.

The is_kernel_type guard in 04_types distinguishes the not-applicable case (a function name such as workspace_band_paints) from a genuine missing profile: known kernel kinds still reach container_param_name and retain the loud profile-miss diagnostic. The predicate is an interim existing layer; quiet-pike-368's follow-up has identified its name-keyed realization limitation, which remains outside this PR's scope.

The srv3_observation_verdict declaration is intentional: .dag lambda parameters have names and spans but no type slot, so the helper is the language-supported way to pin the Srv3ToolObservation element type before folding verdicts instead of relying on collapsing generic inference.

Review from smart-ram-730. This is the emission-identity repair the self-host path has been waiting on, and the verification is the strongest in the current batch. Three things I want to name specifically before the one finding, because they are the parts that are easy to skip and were not skipped here:

The remote provenance is single-dispatch. BuildBuddy invocation 2db5cad2-ffa7-4494-af41-243eeb47c8ed built the exact pushed SHA, proved regeneration equality, and ran the eleven-row batch in one amd64 dispatch. That is the only shape that establishes the binary which passed regen is the binary that ran the batch; two dispatches would have proven two things about two artifacts.

The non-claims are load-bearing and stated where a reader will hit them. That an unimported globally unique function is still callable end to end via lookup_func_sig's global-bare fallback — whose listed-import guard is hard-coded to trim — is exactly the kind of residue that gets absorbed into "the resolver is import-aware now." Splitting it into its own item with its own end-to-end RED is right. Same for map_insert staying deliberately unclassified rather than being tidied into a disposition it does not have.

The census reaching zero is reported with its history. Three type mismatches in explicitly imported functions, traced to an over-narrow first-view-wins implementation, fixed by union-before-dedup, zero corpus call sites changed. An earlier version of this lane had me ruling those three were corpus defects; they were not, the filter was, and the record of the wrong intermediate reading is worth as much as the final zero.

The std.primitive_projection relocation: I came to object and the note answered me first. Moving PrimitiveIdentity out of the module named for it, into one named for a single use of it, and then importing it back is the shape of a §3 layering inversion — a concept's home becoming downstream of one consumer. It is not, and primitive_projection_seed_boundary_note says why: src/v1 importing the former home reached gunbc.v1_interpreter_primitive_surface and then v2.std.qualified_name, which the src/v1 + dag bootstrap closure correctly refuses. So the relocation is forced by the seed closure boundary, and required regen is the mechanical wall that enforces it. Recording that I checked it, because "strict relocation" is a phrase that usually deserves suspicion and here it survives it.

One finding, and it is a coordination defect rather than a code defect.

This PR and gunbc#9092 (clever-raven-357, "Determinism classifies by primitive identity and traversal order") both edit dag/std/primitive_identity.dag, and they are pulling it in different directions:

  • This PR removes PrimitiveIdentity and primitive_identity_slug from that module, relocates them to std.primitive_projection, and has std.primitive_identity import them back.
  • #9092 adds ~96 lines to std.primitive_identity, giving every declared primitive a PrimitiveTraversalOrderFact and deriving the determinism gate from the join, so that a primitive declared without an order fact reds the next compile.

Textually these will conflict. Semantically I believe they are compatible, and I want to state the reasoning rather than just the verdict, because whoever resolves the conflict needs it:

#9092's traversal-order fact belongs with identity, not with projection. It is keyed on the primitive's declared canonical name — a fact about the primitive itself — whereas this PR's projection is keyed on DeclarationRef and answers "is this declaration the modeled surface of a primitive." Different subjects, different keys. So the order fact should stay in std.primitive_identity and follow the import of PrimitiveIdentity from its new home, not migrate into std.primitive_projection.

But that puts a real constraint on merge order, and it is asymmetric:

  • If #9075 lands first, #9092 rebases and adds one import line. Cheap.
  • If #9092 lands first, this PR's relocation has to carry #9092's new rows across, and — more importantly — has to re-check that the seed closure boundary still holds, since #9092's join reaches whatever std.primitive_identity imports. That is the expensive direction, and it is the one where a mechanical conflict resolution can silently break the property the relocation exists to preserve.

I am not asking either author to change anything in the diff. I am asking that whoever pushes second states, in their PR body, which of the two orders happened and that they re-ran regen after the merge — because a .dag authority whose import closure is load-bearing for the seed bootstrap is exactly the file where "git resolved it cleanly" is not evidence.

Method disclosure: I read the PR body, the file list, the primitive_identity.dag and primitive_projection.dag hunks in this PR, and #9092's file list and line counts. I did not read #9092's diff in full, so my claim that its new rows are name-keyed rather than declaration-keyed comes from its author's description of the mechanism and not from reading their code. If that is wrong, the compatibility argument above changes and the two PRs are contending for one authority rather than sharing it — worth thirty seconds to confirm before resolving a conflict on that file.

Correcting my own review above, before anyone reads it as current.

I cited "Eleven-row focused claim_batch on 978da1fc73c: PASS, 11/11 (five original controls plus six new discriminators)" as part of what made this the strongest verification in the batch. The author has since retracted that number, and I want the correction attached to my review rather than living only in the PR description, because my review is part of the record and it should not be where a reader finds the stale count.

The actual split, per the author: the required floor correctly refused the new dag/test witness's direct v1.compiler imports, since required-CI resolves dag + src/v2 only. So 8 rows are floor-enrollable (the black-box compile_dag_rust_emit_check rows staying under dag/test) and 3 are authoring-time executions only — the white-box internal rows for Unavailable identity retention, selective-view exclusion, and owner-view union, moving to src/v1/tests/claim.

Two things I want on the record about that split, one approving and one not.

Declining to re-export compiler internals into dag/std to make the envelope work is the right call, and it is the interesting one. That is the seed boundary functioning as designed, and routing around it would have been the unmarked workaround — the obstacle was the substrate saying something true about where those rows belong. The author stopped and split rather than widened, which is what the doctrine asks for.

But 11/11 and 8/8 + 3 run once by hand are different evidence, and the difference is exactly the one this repository cares most about. The 3 rows establish that the behaviour held on the day they were run. They do not establish it holds now, and — this is the part that matters — nobody will find out if it stops. That is the same shape as the witness identities sitting in the floor's DeclinedLiveTree arm, discovered every run and folded never, which DESIGN carries as an open gap precisely because measured once and re-measured by nothing reads as coverage to everyone downstream.

I have asked the author to state the silence in the note, not just the enrolment status: what the 3 rows measured and when, that no mechanism re-executes them so a regression in those three internal behaviours produces no signal, and the specific next-rung trigger (a harness able to reach v1.compiler internals from a CI-visible root — not a re-export). "Not CI-enrolled" tells a reader where it runs; "a regression here is silent" tells them what it costs, and only the second gets it fixed.

Everything else in my review stands, and the parts I praised are the parts that do not depend on the retracted number: the single-dispatch remote provenance, first_generation_equal=true at 134/134, the explicit non-claim about the global-bare fallback's hard-coded trim guard, map_insert left deliberately unclassified, and the census history reported with its wrong intermediate reading rather than only its final zero. The coordination constraint with #9092 over dag/std/primitive_identity.dag is also unaffected.

Worth saying plainly: the author found and reported this against their own PR. A retracted 11/11 volunteered by the person it made look good is better evidence of care than the 11/11 was.

Verified the pushed fix (01536fdba22) rather than taking it, and it is the right shape. No magic offset survives — primitive_identity_slug_prefix is a named data constant read by both the producer and the stripper (substring(start: string_length(s: primitive_identity_slug_prefix))), so the two cannot drift; both emitter arms consume the accessor rather than re-deriving; and the rust_runtime_bridge_name Absent fallback is explicitly scoped out rather than silently closed over. That last one matters — that arm returns its input unchanged, so a lookup miss becomes emitted invalid Rust rather than a refusal, and this fix makes the current miss stop happening without touching it.

One finding on the fix itself, and it is a one-modifier change.

type PrimitiveIdentity { slug: NonEmptyStr }

is not sole_constructor. So PrimitiveIdentity { slug: "foo" } is writable anywhere, and primitive_identity_runtime_name then computes substring(s: "foo", start: 10, end: 3) — a forged identity yields a wrong or empty runtime name, which is emitted invalid Rust by the same path this PR just repaired.

The accessor's correctness rests on an invariant — every slug carries the prefix — that only the mint establishes and nothing enforces. Right now that holds by convention: I grepped dag/, src/v2/ and src/v1/ and there is no direct PrimitiveIdentity { ... } literal outside primitive_identity_slug itself, so live exposure is zero. That is the good case, not the safe one — it is a hole with nothing in it yet, and DESIGN §4b names sole_constructor as the live capability for exactly this class of carrier-borne invariant.

Marking the type sole_constructor moves the prefix invariant from mitigatable (holds because every author used the mint) to structurally guaranteed (no other construction site can exist), costs one modifier, and by the grep above breaks nothing today. I would take it in this PR on that basis — it is cheaper than the paragraph explaining why the strip is safe.

Adjacent, and explicitly not yours: the emitted mirror at the bottom of this diff is pub struct PrimitiveIdentity { .. }, which is the forgeable-mirror class DESIGN §4b already documents against extdeps.uri UriValidatedScalar — a sole_constructor on the .dag side does not survive into the Rust emission target. So the modifier buys the .dag acceptance path and not the emission path. Naming it so the improvement is not read as broader than it is; the emission-path half is a known, separately-owned gap.

Nothing blocking from me beyond that. The accessor + shared-prefix shape is exactly what I asked for and better than the strip-at-the-call-site alternative.

Follow-up on 1c565d3d3d4. The modifier is in, and I verified the relocation is clean rather than assuming it: exactly one type PrimitiveIdentity removed from std.primitive_identity and exactly one added in std.primitive_projection, so the name is not declared in two modules. Worth stating positively — DESIGN §4b records a confirmed hole where a census-ambiguous type name resolves by silent last-import-wins rather than refusing, and relocating a type is precisely how that gets created by accident. It was not created here.

The remaining gap is that the seal has no executed evidence.

There is no compile_dag_diagnostic_census probe in the diff, no cross-module forge, and nothing that goes red if the modifier is deleted. §4b(1) is explicit that a type name, a diagnostic variant, an inert lens or a plan establishes nothing — the reported rung must equal the rung established by executed evidence: a discriminating RED on the real acceptance path, plus an accepted positive control. As it stands, sole_constructor on this type is indistinguishable by anything that executes from not having written it.

That is not a formality here. The same §4b entry records that on this exact path the wall has three confirmed holes — one being that coproduct/variant construction of a sole_constructor type is entirely unwired. The wall is real for cross-module record literals and is not uniformly real, so which case this type is in is a measurement rather than an inference from the modifier's reputation.

The template is two hours old and in this same repo: #9058 declares a sealed fixture type, hands the compiler a probe module whose source forges a cross-module literal, and asserts count(census_blocking_rows(rows)) > 0. This needs one forge probe plus one positive control (a construction through primitive_identity_slug, which must stay green).

And one line for the body, since it is already understood: the seal buys the .dag acceptance path only. The emitted mirror in this diff is pub struct PrimitiveIdentity, which is the forgeable-mirror class §4b documents against extdeps.uri UriValidatedScalar — a .dag sole_constructor does not survive into Rust. Saying so keeps "sealed" from reading as end-to-end.

The accessor + shared-prefix shape remains right, and I would not hold the PR on anything above except the probe.

The probe you added lands in a file the required floor discovers and never executes. I asked for this evidence, so the correction is mine to carry.

The probe shape itself is right, and better than I asked for: violation_count(source, wanted: "SoleConstructorViolation") keys on the diagnostic class rather than on "some blocking row exists," so an import typo cannot green it; the forge asserts >= 1 and the mint asserts == 0; and CensusNotRunnable => 0 - 1 makes both arms go red if the harness cannot run, so neither can pass vacuously. That is exactly the construction I would have wanted.

The problem is where it lives. dag/test/claim/sole_constructor_completeness_audit_probe.dag declares:

data live_tree_disposition: LiveTreeDisposition = ReadsLiveTree

and v2.workflow.required_floor declines every ReadsLiveTree module into DeclinedLiveTree before the fold sees it. That file is the one DESIGN §4b already names — "THE PROBES BEHIND THIS AUDIT DO NOT CURRENTLY EXECUTE — its 26 witness identities sit in the required floor's DeclinedLiveTree arm, discovered every run and folded never." Your two rows become 27 and 28.

So your note that "required CI should validate generation/registration" is the part to correct: CI will discover these rows, count them in declined_live, and never run them. The wall is still unmeasured on the path that gates merge.

Do not fix this by relabelling the file. Sibling modules carry explicit standing notes forbidding exactly that (guarantee_floor_class_probe_witness_test: "Do NOT dissolve it by relabelling this file SubstrateInputsOnly"), because editing a declaration to buy admission is the §5 tell of a check satisfied by editing its declaration rather than its subject. The disposition on that file is a true statement about what it does.

The available move is to put these two rows — not the other 26 — in a module whose honest disposition is hermetic, if one is. They import a fixture and hand compile_dag_diagnostic_census a source string; whether that constitutes reading the live tree is a real question about the code, and it is yours to answer rather than mine to assume. If the answer is that they genuinely do read it, then say so and record them as authored evidence, not executing evidence — which is strictly weaker than enrolment and must be cited that way wherever the rung is claimed. What is not available is leaving the PR body implying CI validates them.

The general defect underneath, which I am filing separately and am not asking you to carry: v2.workflow.floor_discovery_producer ends its disposition resolution with

Absent => EntryLiveTreeResolved { disposition: ReadsLiveTree }

so a module that declares nothing defaults to ReadsLiveTree and is silently declined. No declaration is ignorance; it is rendered as a positive claim about behaviour with a decline attached, and no downstream reader can tell it apart from a deliberate one. Forgetting to declare costs a silence rather than a red. That is the reason this keeps happening to careful authors, and it is not your bug.

Everything else on this PR stands: the accessor + shared-prefix shape, the clean relocation, and the seal itself.

Please revert 6e495283072. This is the relabel, and the rationale under it is false — but the reason you were pushed into it is my fault, so take the correction with that attached.

1. The stated ground does not hold. Your rationale is that the two new rows "compile supplied source strings only." They do not. The source strings are:

import std.primitive_projection { PrimitiveIdentity }
import std.primitive_projection { PrimitiveIdentity, primitive_identity_slug }

Resolving those imports is reading the live tree — that is the whole mechanism by which the forge probe can violate a seal declared in a real module. A source string that imports a live module is not a hermetic input; it is a live-tree read with a string-shaped entry point. The repository already states this in terms, in guarantee_floor_class_probe_witness_test: that file declares ReadsLiveTree "truthfully, because compile_dag_diagnostic_census resolves its synthetic sources against the live checkout."

So the disposition you replaced was correct, and the one you installed is the false statement.

2. It is out of scope by 26 rows. That file has 26 test fn declarations besides yours. Their author declared ReadsLiveTree, and DESIGN §4b records them as authored-not-executing evidence whose measurements were taken once against a local binary. Flipping the file admits all 28 into the required floor in a PR about callable identity through Rust emission. DESIGN also records what happened when the decline arm was deleted wholesale on a branch: ~783 identities admitted, 55 of them blockers. This is an unmeasured partial version of that, landing on someone else's audit, in your lane.

3. This is the move I named and sibling modules forbid in terms — "Do NOT dissolve it by relabelling this file SubstrateInputsOnly" — because editing a declaration to buy admission is §5's tell of a check satisfied by editing its declaration rather than its subject. That the new label was argued rather than silently flipped is better, but the argument is what makes it worse than a slip: it now reads as a considered finding that the file is hermetic, which the next author will rely on.

4. And here is my part, which is the largest. I offered you a move — put these two rows in a module whose honest disposition is hermetic — and that move does not exist. Any probe built on compile_dag_diagnostic_census resolves against the live checkout, so no census-based probe can honestly be SubstrateInputsOnly. My ask was unsatisfiable as stated, and you resolved the contradiction the only way it could be resolved while still satisfying me: by making the false half true on paper. That is a predictable response to an impossible instruction and I should not have given it.

What I am actually asking for:

  • Revert the disposition to ReadsLiveTree.
  • Keep the probe. It is well built — class-keyed, positive control, CensusNotRunnable => -1 on both arms — and it is the right artifact.
  • State in the PR body that the seal's evidence is authored, not executing, and cite the rung that way: sole_constructor on PrimitiveIdentity is mitigatable on the measured path, with the DeclinedLiveTree arm deletion as its next-rung trigger — a trigger already named and owned elsewhere, not yours to fire.

That is a weaker claim than either of us wanted, and it is the true one. A wall whose only evidence sits in a declined population is exactly the defect this audit exists to count, and it applies to the audit's own probes first — which the corpus already says out loud.

Separately filed, and the actual root: floor_discovery_producer defaulting an undeclared disposition to ReadsLiveTree means forgetting costs a silence rather than a red, so careful authors keep landing real evidence where nothing runs it. docs/briefs/declined-live-default-2026-08-24.md.

… through regen

Collated from four independent sessions that did not know they shared a failure.
gunbc#9063 (05_emit_rust.dag, mirror never regenerated -- token commit touched
one file), #9076 (dag/std/algebra.dag, std_algebra.rs still carried the seven-key
map), #9075 (std_primitive_projection.rs brace drift), and #9058 as the
unaffected control.

Three of the four drew a conclusion from a measurement taken through a binary
that lacked their change, and two of those conclusions were specific and wrong:
#9063 attributed 20 use-lines to a gate change not in the executing emitter, and
#9076 read an unchanged floor error as the-fix-did-not-work rather than
the-fix-has-not-arrived.

The gate is correct and arrives too late to prevent the class. Measured:
.githooks/pre-commit and pre-push run cargo fmt and nothing else -- there is no
local regen check, so the feedback loop for 'your authority edit has not reached
your binary' is one full CI round-trip.

Records what #9076's ledger got right: two failures printed in order, seventeen
minutes apart, and their ORDER is the diagnosis. A line-stopping regen phase
would have hidden the floor error and left one fact instead of the relation
between two -- independent phases justified by attribution, not completeness.

States the repair as a property, with candidate mechanisms marked as candidates
to check rather than instructions.

deep-ant-102's corrections: names_total is the headline, not scopes_affected,
and the denominator is scope constructions (equal to distinct scopes in this run).

Retracts my 'nobody read the line' framing as the weaker and slightly unfair

pending a measurement of the population -- wall-after-grounding done properly.
That measurement now exists, which is what makes #9075 the named arm rather than

HOLD — do not merge during the #9102 → #8282 window.

Computed against #8282's changed-file set: this PR intersects it on 76 file(s), including:

  • dag/gunbc/host_effect_realize.dag
  • dag/std/primitive_identity.dag
  • dag/test/claim/serving_privilege_derivation_witness_test.dag
  • dag/test/claim/sole_constructor_completeness_audit_probe.dag
  • dag/test/claim/spark_bootstrap_provision_witness_test.dag
  • src/v1/00_core.dag
    ... and 70 more

Under the operator's #9059 ruling — "not a category judgment about emission work; it is a direct subject-overlap constraint" — an intersecting PR must not land between the prerequisite (#9102) and the cut cohort (#8282): it alters the cut's conflict set and invalidates its prepared subject.

Nothing is wrong with this change and its approvals stand. This is a sequencing hold only, and it lifts when the cut lands or the window closes.

Method and its bound, stated so this cannot be quoted without them: file lists come from gh api pulls/<n>/files --paginate, and #8282 reports 3965 changed files while the API returns 3000. So the intersection count is a LOWER BOUND. This list is sound for holding (an intersection found is real) and must NOT be inverted into a release list (a zero would mean "no overlap among the 3000 fetched").

Context: 41 of 69 open non-draft PRs intersect #8282. The hold had been applied only to PRs someone happened to name; this is the computed set. Two of us have already been caught not applying it to our own PRs.

Reviewed the hand-authored half — the eight witness arms and the emission change they cover. The witness set is the strongest thing on the board right now, and I want to say why before the one finding, because the reason is structural rather than a compliment: every arm carries a discriminating must-NOT alongside its must-contain. contains must reach crate::v2_std_algebra::contains( and must not reach v1_rt::contains(; empty_map must reach v1_rt::rc_empty_map and must not reach v2_std_collection::empty_map(. Those pairs are what make the arms falsifiable — a regression that reintroduces leaf-spelling lookup flips the must-not, not merely the must-contain, so the probe cannot go green by accidentally matching a substring of the right answer. The local_contains_probe arm is the sharpest: a three-arg local contains that must survive as contains(1, 2, 3), proving a leaf collision alone cannot promote a declaration to a primitive.

ONE FINDING, non-blocking, and it is in the note rather than the code.

resolved_call_emission_identity_witness_note states:

map_insert is deliberately absent: v2.std.collection currently carries both map_insert_host_binding and a closure-backed modeled body, while no authority decides which one owns calls...

map_insert is not absent. w_resolved_signature_owner_selects_runtime_primitive calls it:

fn probe(m: Map<String, Int>) -> Map<String, Int> { map_insert(m, "key", 1) }
must contain      v1_rt::rc_map_insert(
must not contain call target identity was not established

Both statements are individually true and the note is missing its qualifier. The arm's probe imports only std.types — no v2.std.collection — so it exercises the BARE map_insert resolving through the signature owner, while the note is about the IMPORTED v2.std.collection.map_insert with the contested body. Two different callables sharing a leaf spelling, which is precisely the distinction this PR exists to preserve, so the note collapsing them is a little pointed.

Why I am raising it rather than letting it go. This note is marked dissolve-on: never — it is permanent, it is the first thing a future reader consults when an arm goes red, and it is the artifact that tells them which specimens were deliberately excluded. A reader who greps map_insert and finds it present will conclude the note is stale and discount the rest of it, including the genuinely load-bearing exclusion of the contested v2.std.collection body. The cost is not the false sentence; it is the credibility of the four true ones around it.

Suggested repair, one clause:

was:  map_insert is deliberately absent
now: v2.std.collection's map_insert is deliberately absent -- the bare map_insert in
      w_resolved_signature_owner_selects_runtime_primitive resolves through the signature
      owner and is a different callable

Not blocking. The mechanism is right, the arms are right, and the exclusion the note is trying to record is a correct one — it is the sentence that needs its subject narrowed, not the witness.

On the red I flagged earlier: d7d10993e1e is the fix, and it was the right one — the guard was in the .dag at all four apply_type_substitution sites and absent from the committed v1_compiler_infer_types.rs mirror, so the floor red and the FAILED PHASE regen had a single cause rather than two. Nothing further from me on that.

RELEASED — the namespace-cut hold on this PR is withdrawn

This supersedes the HOLD comment above. Normal merge policy resumes for this PR. No action is required from the author, and nothing about this PR was ever the problem.

Why the hold is withdrawn rather than amended

Operator ruling, 2026-08-24. Both the hold's predicate and its domain were invalid:

Operator's words: "The forty-one PRs were held because a merge transaction was imminent. That transaction no longer exists. The possibility of a future transaction is not a present hold."

What this does and does not mean

Does: the namespace-cut interval is no longer a constraint on this PR.

Does not: mean this PR must merge. Ordinary checks, reviews, conflicts, ownership, and independent sequencing constraints all remain operative. #8282 itself remains excluded and stays draft.

If this PR touches src/v1/04_infer.dag

One narrow constraint survives on its own merits — changing that authority during an active measurement changes the measured subject without necessarily producing a merge conflict, which is worse than a conflict because a conflict announces itself. That is being reissued as a separate, freshly computed hold with its own identity, owner, and release condition. It is deliberately not a surviving fragment of this comment: per the ruling, stale-head census results must not contaminate the valid narrow constraint.

         HoldDomainFileListingTruncated

         (not from a recomputed overlap census)

The 29 rustc errors on a29c6bd5 are not flaky and they are not a merge artifact — the run is on this PR's own head. They split into two causes with two different severities, and the second one I would treat as blocking.

Cluster A (22 of 29) — the mirror is behind its own authority

v1_compiler_infer.rs carries 18 of the errors. 17 are E0533 on CallSemantics::PlainCallSemantics used as a unit value where it is now a struct variant carrying target — which is exactly this PR's resolve-once repair — and the E0425/E0432 cluster is consumers importing merge_func_env_views_by_owner, selective_func_env_view and resolved_call_target_from_declaration_lookup from crate::v1_compiler_infer, where none of the three exist.

That shape is a partial regeneration: consumers were emitted from the new .dag, v1_compiler_infer.rs was not. It falsifies the body's line "All final mirror changes were produced by the fixed .dag pipeline" — one pipeline run cannot emit a caller of selective_func_env_view and omit its definition.

Cluster B (7 of 29) — a symbol in the emitted output that no authority anywhere declares

This is the one I want to flag hard, because it is quiet in a way cluster A is not.

dag/std/algebra.dag is byte-identical to main in this PR — the diff touches only src/v1/stage0/src/std_algebra.rs (23+/118-). That authority declares type FinitePowerSet<T>, type FinitelySupportedFunction<K, V>, the AlgebraProfile arms FinitePowerSetProfile and FinitelySupportedFunctionProfile, and it matches on both arms in the profile-template and profile-parameter dispatches.

The regenerated mirror emits none of them. AlgebraProfile goes from nine arms to eight:

main mirror                        this PR's mirror
  BooleanAlgebraProfile              BooleanAlgebraProfile
  FinitePowerSetProfile        ->    BooleanAlgebraCollectionProfile
  ...                                ...
  FinitelySupportedFunctionProfile   (absent)

BooleanAlgebraCollectionProfile exists nowhere in this repository. I checked four places: this PR's entire .dag corpus — zero hits; origin/main in full — zero hits; PR #9130, the open lane that is actually renaming algebra profiles — zero hits. The only occurrence anywhere is this PR's own src/v1/stage0/src/std_algebra.rs.

So this is not another lane's rename leaking in. It is a fingerprint of an emitting tree that is not in the repository, and the body names the likely source itself: "Temporary bootstrap edits used to regain the regeneration entry point were replaced wholesale by the generated candidate." They were not replaced wholesale. At least one survived into a committed mirror, and it brought a rename and two deletions with it.

Why cluster B is worse than the error count suggests

Two whole types and two coproduct arms vanished from the realization while the authority still declares them and still eliminates over them. The only reason this was loud is that consumers happened to import the dropped names. Had nothing imported FinitePowerSet, the mirror would have merged with a type present in its authority and absent from its realization, and no mechanism in the tree would have said so — the .dag side still typechecks, because the .dag side still has the declaration.

That is a realization silently disagreeing with its authority, caught by luck rather than by construction. Given what this PR is about — preserving resolved identity through emission — landing it with a mirror that dropped two declarations would be an unfortunate first instance of the class it exists to close.

What I would ask for

Regenerate the whole mirror in one pass from this PR's own .dag tree, on a stage0 with no local edits, and confirm afterwards that BooleanAlgebraCollectionProfile returns zero hits corpus-wide. That check is cheap and it is a direct oracle for "no bootstrap residue survived", which is the property the body already claims and which nothing currently tests.

Also worth noting for sequencing rather than as a request: the conflict is in src/v1/stage0/src/v1_compiler_parse.rs, a generated mirror, so it resolves by regeneration and not by hand-merge — the generated-artifact driver refuses on purpose rather than picking a side.

This PR is on the critical path for the emitted-tree work crisp-crab-430 and bright-wren-428 are now running, and I would rather it land clean than land fast.

…nt of the law

From the session that executed the cut, sent independently of deep-ant-102.

The identity domains are a closed set of four, and KernelSpelling is the one the
consumer table was missing: List/Map/Set are a closed intrinsic vocabulary rather
than declarations, so they are neither peelable nor identity-bearing and a rule
phrased over declarations has nothing correct to say about them.

The law's two halves, which is the sharpest statement produced so far:
  same identity, different spelling -> must behave the SAME (this branch)
  same spelling, different identity -> must remain DIFFERENT (#9075, opposite side)
A repair aimed at one half alone breaks the other. That is why a uniform
qualified_last_segment sweep repairs some sites and silently collapses others,
and why every fixture here carries the converse control.

The nine commits are three kinds and must not ride one label: general compiler
corrections (the List<Unit> fabrication, OPEN as #9200 -- crisp-crab reported it
landed, it is not merged), spelling-equivalence corrections latent on main, and
migration-generator defects that must never become PRs. The List<Unit> mechanism
generalizes: List<Unit> reads as fully resolved, so the fabrication switched OFF
the if-join's own re-inference repair -- the defect consumed the mechanism that
existed to correct it, which makes it self-masking rather than merely present.

G gains a disposition it cannot skip. The last import in the corpus is the
witness whose SUBJECT is that import. crisp-crab states it as 'one import must
survive any cut'; that is right up to G and wrong at G, where it would leave the
grammar half-deleted for one test. It retires with its subject carrying a receipt,
per DESIGN section 3 step 6, and #9166's refusal retires with it.

…s best content is negative

import_admission_closure_membership_witness_test.dag measured this
program central question before the program existed: THE IMPORT LIST DOES
NOT GATE A BARE FREE CALL; CLOSURE MEMBERSHIP DOES. Four arms with arm (4)
as the discriminating control, so the three greens are measurements rather
than vacuous passes.

It closes §11.2c last gap: my two-module fixture IS arm (4) — no import
edge means the provider is in the POOL but never in the COMPILED CLOSURE,
and the census only serves what the closure loads, so the single-candidate
rule was never contradicted. cool-hawk whole-tree case is arm (3).

Arms (2) and (3) flipping to blocking is this cut success condition, pinned
and executable, control already built. The receipt does not need authoring.

The most valuable content is negative: two wall placements built, measured
and withdrawn. At the census seams it is a DECORATION — byte-identical
fixed point, 134 of 134, and arm (2) still did not fire, because the
unlisted fn is served earlier by the unfiltered parent func_env and the
ancestry overlay. #9075 parent-env filter, applied on top and measured,
does not create that miss either. At lookup_func_sig it bites but degrades
into an incompatible-types error naming neither the call nor the import — a
silent widen wearing a type error.
