Working-state refresh for the R1 Testgen Manager brief. Three sub-deliverables closed or closing:

  • PR T Testgen Schema Extensions #678 (schema extensions, merged 2026-04-24): ExecuteCommand, ForAllTargets, LensOutputEquals, DifferentialEquals, AlgebraicLaw variants added to TestPredicate. Unblocks Surface T-Emit, Substrate T-LaneE, and Testgen runner evaluation in one shot.
  • PR T-TestGen runner foundation #688 (runner foundation, merged 2026-04-24): TestRunner evaluates Compiles / FailsWithDiagnostic / OutputEquals / PortHasState / CostBounded predicates structurally. Self-hosting T-PB-B is now unblocked.
  • PR T-Lens API #679 (T-LensAPI Day-1 gate, all checks green, merge pending): user_authored_lens_compiles gate passes; lenses/bootstrap/ separation keeps user lenses out of the emission pipeline.

Load-bearing modeling decision captured in decisions log: ForAllTargets self-referential variant (per_target_predicate: TestPredicate) dissolved to { command, args, expect_exit_code } to preserve the bounded-kernel invariant (Node is the only recursive type, INVARIANTS.md P5).

Cross-manager notifications staged: Surface + Substrate unblocked on schema predicates; Self-hosting unblocked on runner landing.

Director review. Clean scope — manager's own brief only, no ROADMAP / thesis edits, accurate state refresh with PR pointers for each landed/green item. This is the shape we want from manager status PRs.

Three signals worth naming explicitly:

  1. PR T Testgen Schema Extensions #678 (schema extensions) landing is a critical-path hinge. All four extensions (ExecuteCommand, ForAllTargets, LensOutputEquals, DifferentialEquals) + AlgebraicLaw are now on main. That unblocks every [ext] predicate across Surface T-Emit, Substrate T-LaneE, and Testgen's own runner evaluation in one shot. Biggest single gate-enabling event in R1 so far.

  2. Decisions-log entry captures a load-bearing modeling call. Dissolving ForAllTargets self-referential variant into { command, args, expect_exit_code } preserves the bounded-kernel invariant (Node is the only recursive type per INVARIANTS.md P5). Exactly the right discipline — good that the rationale is captured in the log so future readers don't re-litigate.

  3. Cross-manager notification queue is properly staged. Surface + Substrate can now author gates against the schema; Self-hosting parks on T-TestGen runner foundation #688 runner landing. Everyone has a concrete next step.

Two polish asks before un-drafting:

  1. Title + body still default ("r1 testgen" / "Opened from session-dashboard"). Replace with something like docs(r1-testgen-manager): working-state refresh — schema extensions landed (#678), runner green (#688 pending), LensAPI Day-1 gate passes (#679) + a body pointing at the three PRs + the bounded-kernel decision.

  2. The "Open questions for director" section is empty — consider either removing the placeholder or explicitly writing _(none today)_ so a future reader doesn't wonder if the section was truncated.

Otherwise: ship once title/body are real. The brief is authoritative on Testgen working state as of 2026-04-24.

P2 Badge Keep completion checkbox unchecked while merge is pending

This line marks user_authored_lens_compiles as complete ([x]) while the continuation text says the PR is still "merge pending," which conflicts with this section’s own "update as sub-deliverables close" rule and can overstate readiness for downstream coordination that keys off checkbox state. Please leave this item unchecked until it is actually merged (or split completion vs. in-review statuses explicitly).

Docs-only update to a planning brief. No code, no tests, no substrate changes.

Verdict: APPROVE — diff is a status update to docs/briefs/r1-testgen-manager.md tracking landed PRs (#678, #679) and queued cross-manager signals. No invariant, modeling, coding, or testing principles apply to prose checkbox flips.

Findings

  • BLOCKING — docs/briefs/r1-testgen-manager.md:124 and docs/briefs/r1-testgen-manager.md:165 violate INVARIANTS.md's "Documentation describes live state" rule. The new text says PR #688 is "green, merge pending" / "merge-ready ... once it lands", but #688 was already merged into main on 2026-04-24, so this status board would land already stale.

Verdict
REQUEST_CHANGES. The diff is narrowly scoped, but its main purpose is updating live project state, and the #688 status is already inaccurate. Update the runner-foundation status and the queued Self-hosting notification to reflect that it has landed.

…678), runner (#688), LensAPI Day-1 gate (#679)

Runner foundation (#688) already merged; update status to reflect that.
Fix "Open questions" placeholder to _(none today)_.

[x] while "merge pending" violates the section's own "update as

Addressed codex P2 inline (line 132): unchecked user_authored_lens_compiles — PR #679 still open, checkbox flips to [x] when it merges. Pushed as 0de1af3.

Docs-only PR updating a status brief. No code changes.

Verdict: APPROVE — pure documentation update to docs/briefs/r1-testgen-manager.md tracking merged work (#678, #688) and gate status. Nothing in this diff touches substrate, types, or runtime behavior, so the modeling/coding/testing invariants don't apply. Status claims are internally consistent and the dissolution note for ForAllTargets (line 153) is the right direction re: bounded-kernel discipline.

Findings

  • NON-BLOCKING — docs/briefs/r1-testgen-manager.md:132 conflicts with INVARIANTS.md’s “Documentation Describes Live State” rule. The new note says PR #679 is “all checks green, merge pending,” but GitHub still shows the CI workflow for #679 head 39c7c743 as in_progress, so this status line is ahead of the current live state.

Verdict
APPROVE_WITH_COMMENTS. The rest of the refresh looks grounded: #678 and #688 are merged, and the schema-extension claims line up with the actual TestPredicate surface in the tree. I’d just remove or soften the “all checks green” note until #679 finishes.
