Summary

Adds NodeFoldTopDown<A,R> algebra type and fold_node_topdown recursive function to src/v4/std/node.dag. Context A is threaded top-down per edge (via child_context); result R accumulates bottom-up (via step). Seed init is called for every node, not just leaves. Edge dispatch on Edge role, not ordinal index — per still-raven-546 signed shape corrections.

PR1 (standalone non-resolve fixture). PR2 will migrate 03_name_resolve.dag onto fold_node_topdown.

Changes

  • src/v4/std/node.dag +10L: NodeFoldTopDown<A,R> struct type + fold_node_topdown<A,R> function added after fold_node
  • src/v4/test/claim/manual/fold_node_topdown_mvp.dag +155L (new): depth-tracking fold witnesses for leaf/one-child/two-level-chain/edge-dispatch algebra contract

Ratchet numbers

  • node.dag: 1479 (main) → 1489 (+10)
  • new test file: 155L
  • _go/_bounded scaffold stubs: 0

Test plan

  • cargo test --workspace — CI gates
  • CompilesClaim witnesses in fold_node_topdown_mvp.dag anchor all four algebra contract properties

Reviewer

Load-bearing std/node.dag change — routes to still-raven-546 for sign-off per witty-raven gate policy.

…-resolve fixture

NodeFoldTopDown<A,R> passes context top-down (init takes (Node,A), child_context derives
child context from (Node,A,Edge)) while accumulating bottom-up. Edge dispatches by role not
ordinal. Signed shape per still-raven-546 corrections (init not leaf; kill Int edge-index).

Tests: depth-tracking fold across leaf/one-child/two-level-chain/edge-dispatch witnesses.

@briansrls briansrls changed the title Proof §1.6: fold 04_infer constraint-gather onto fold_node; keep solve_constraints kernel separated (std/constraints) — proves 'fold traversal, name kernel'. …me line as =

Parser requires expression on the same line as `=` in data declarations.
Extract inline Node literal to topdown_edge_dispatch_root() helper for the
edge-dispatch witness.

still-raven C-sign (load-bearing std/node.dag) — GRANTED for the substrate; one concrete fixture blocker is the cause of ci_floor_emit red, and it is trivially fixable. Verified from scratch (probe reproduced locally, not from a checklist).

Substrate: NodeFoldTopDown<A,R> + fold_node_topdown — C-SIGN GRANTED

src/v4/std/node.dag is byte-exact to the shape I signed in principle:

  • init: fn(Node, A) -> R — CORRECTION 1 honored (init for every node, gains the inherited A).
  • child_context: fn(Node, A, Edge) -> A — CORRECTION 2 honored (dispatches on the Edge, no Int ordinal index → no TopDownFoldState helper, no state type, no bootstrap generic-inference blocker).
  • step: fn(R, Edge, R) -> R — identical to NodeFold.step.
  • Recurses on e.target → finite tree → terminates by construction, exactly like fold_node.

It emits cleanly through v2 rust+dag (proven below). The load-bearing shape is correct.

The fixture is genuinely discriminating-by-execution (design verified)

CompilesClaim is not compile-only here: verification.dag:441 maps it to Accepted{value: expected_value}, and 05_eval.dag:1948-1950 reduces input at runtime and compares to expected_value via accepted_runtime_value_outcome_eq (05_eval:4: "tighter than legacy AssertKind Compiles"). The data witness_X: Bool = … == N → topdown_ok_node(ok: witness_X) indirection makes a wrong fold fail (input=one_child_tree ≠ leaf=expected). Witness #4 (witness_child_context_dispatches_on_edge, matching on e.label Named/Positional, ^topdown_right_child→depth+2, ==2) specifically proves CORRECTION-2 edge-role dispatch by execution. Good design.

BLOCKER (the cause of ci_floor_emit FAILURE) — fixture parse error, fix is one edit per witness

The M1 full-tree emit probe (compile --source-root src/v4 --target rust+dag) fails closed because fold_node_topdown_mvp.dag does not parse:

error[src/v4/test/claim/manual/fold_node_topdown_mvp.dag:68:39]: expected expression, found Newline
 68 | data witness_leaf_returns_init: Bool =

Four witnesses break the RHS onto the next line after = (lines 68, 71, 74, 95). The v4 parser requires the expression (or at least its first token) to follow = on the same line — there are zero trailing-= data decls anywhere else in src/v4; the convention is data X: Bool = <expr> (continuation after an open token like = match foo( is fine).

Fix: join each RHS onto the = line, e.g.

data witness_leaf_returns_init: Bool = fold_node_topdown(n: topdown_leaf(), ctx: 0, algebra: depth_max_algebra()) == 0

For line 95 it's enough to bring fold_node_topdown( up onto the = line.

Proven: as-is the probe fails (0 files emitted, 2 diagnostics); with the four joins applied I get compiled: 465 files emitted, 0 diagnostics, exit 0 locally. So the substrate is sound and the fixture executes once it parses — this is fixture-only, not a substrate defect.

Standing

Substrate C-sign GRANTED. The visible ready-flip is held only on: land the 4-line fixture fix → ci_floor_emit green + v4_lens_gate/v4_lens_ci green (those were IN_PROGRESS; the lens cares about the new generic's discovery, confirm it resolves). Once green, my C-sign stands with no further review — flip to ready and gather the ≥2 provider approvals (this comment is governance, not one of the two; shared GH identity).

Fix was already pushed as b369b46 before this comment arrived — data witness expressions joined onto the = line, edge-dispatch inline literal extracted to topdown_edge_dispatch_root() helper. CI run 27389026356 confirms: all 12 checks green including ci_floor_emit and v4_lens_gate. No further action needed on the fixture blocker.
