Summary

T-4.17 Wave 2a (python only): extend src/v4/extdeps/languages/python.dag with wave-1 lex/grammar data and MVP-1 target-model carriers on v4.std.lexing + v4.std.grammar (no extdeps→compiler imports after #3807 migration). Adds wave-2a parse claims and a smoke ratchet row for Python T-11 surface wiring.

Bounded scaffolds (honest, not full Py3.14 lexical fidelity yet):

  • feature:T-6-token-layout-trivia-policy — layout/newline/indent in literal token spellings until std layout tokens land.
  • feature:python-wave2a-decimal-int-literal — decimal 0|[1-9][0-9]* only (wave-2a fixture uses 0/1); not 0b/0o/0x/underscores until T-6/T-7 integerliteral substrate.

Changed surface (vs main)

Path Role
src/v4/extdeps/languages/python.dag Python LanguageModel lex/grammar/MVP-1 data; wave-2a non-MVP source fixture
src/v4/test/claim/parse/python_wave2a.dag claim_python_wave2a_non_mvp_function_parses
src/v4/test/claim/manual/python_mvp1_grammar_claim.dag MVP-1 grammar validate + parse_production receipts
src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/v4_compiler_emit_translate_smoke_test.rs v4_python_language_model_declares_t11_translation_rules (+0 SG-0 census paths; INVARIANTS §P5(b) row updated on branch)

Test plan

  • python3 scripts/strict_deprose_dag.py --check — OK
  • ctrl-build -- cargo run -p v2-compiler --bin v2-compiler --release -- compile --source-root src/v4 --output-dir /tmp/gunbc-v4-check-lively-ibex-345 — OK: indexed 266 modules, resolved 266 sources, 270 files emitted, 0 diagnostics (HEAD 4c791928e)

PR remains draft pending manager spot-check of boundary imports and ready authorization.

Closing as abandoned per manager STOP (2026-05-28): operator confirmed the extdeps → v4.compiler.parse / v4.compiler.tokenize pattern used in this branch is architecturally wrong; T-4.17 Wave 2a is on hold pending architecture clarification. Branch session/lively-ibex-345 retained for reference; do not merge until reworked to the corrected pattern.

Supersedes the 12:59 close comment above. That close was a mistaken response to an automated dashboard nudge; parent (sleek-wren-309) confirmed the T-4.17/T-4.18 STOP supersedes such nudges.

Current disposition: PR reopened, remains draft/held under STOP. Not abandoned. No gh pr ready, merge, or further pushes until operator replacement-boundary / architecture guidance lands.

The extdeps → v4.compiler.parse / v4.compiler.tokenize concern in the close comment still applies to future rework — it is why we are holding, not why this PR should stay closed.

BLOCKING (4)

Root Cause

  • src/v4/extdeps/languages/python.dag Python layout is represented as context-specific token spelling instead of declared layout facts → model NEWLINE/INDENT/DEDENT layout tokens or add a bounded T-6/T-7 scaffold trigger before exposing this LanguageModel.
  • src/v4/extdeps/languages/python.dag The Python suite cardinality fact is lost when mapped to generic Repeat → encode stmt followed by Repeat(stmt) or introduce a one-or-more grammar primitive.
  • src/v4/extdeps/languages/python.dag The MVP parse receipt helper was placed in the target-spec module → move fixture tokenization into src/v4/test/claim/manual and leave python.dag exporting only lex/grammar/model data.
  • src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/v4_compiler_emit_translate_smoke_test.rs The new ratchet is added in host Rust without the required dissolution accounting → add the exact P5(b) receipt in the PR body or a changed planning artifact, or migrate the assertion to .dag/generated coverage.

⚠️ The Python model needs fidelity and layering fixes before this lands.

BLOCKING (2)

Root Cause

  • src/v4/extdeps/languages/python.dag Python numeric literal facts are collapsed to a generic digit run → model the reference integer alternatives, base prefixes, and underscore constraints in the lex data, or add a bounded T-6/T-7 scaffold trigger before exposing the LanguageModel.
  • src/v4/test/claim/parse/python_wave2a.dag Test-claim discovery is recorded as file prose instead of a declared runner/claim contract → use the standard four-line header and move discovery authority to the T-22 substrate/runner surface or a planning receipt.

⚠️ The prior blockers are still unresolved, and the added integer lex rule plus header shape introduce new blocking issues.

Model decimal integers as 0|[1-9][0-9]* with a bounded T-6/T-7 gated scaffold
for full Python 3.14 integer-literals (bases, underscores). python_wave2a.dag
already uses Scope/Owns/Consumes without Discovery prose.

BLOCKING (1)

Root Cause

  • src/v4/extdeps/languages/python.dag T-4.17 Python wave-2a materializes lex/grammar/core as a per-language record instead of projecting into the canonical LanguageModel Node → route python_language_model_wave1 through the canonical carrier or add the missing typed projection/dissolution before ratcheting it.

Re: BLOCKING on 48c793eb — PythonLanguageModel vs canonical LanguageModel = Node

Verified on current HEAD cca241e6c.

Finding is not a python-specific regression. T-4.17 wave-2a fills lex/grammar inside the same per-language bundle pattern already on main for Kotlin/Swift/Java/TS/Wasm/Rust (kotlin_language_model_wave1() -> KotlinLanguageModel, etc.). The compiler ingest authority remains v4.compiler.target_carriers type LanguageModel = Node (TASKS.md Theme-A #9): LexRules/Grammar are projections on that Node, not a second model authority.

python_language_model_wave1() returns the lex/grammar/core bundle for authoring and claims — same role as peers. MVP ingest still routes through TargetModel / python_mvp1_target_model_node() (smoke: v4_python_language_model_declares_t11_translation_rules).

Disposition (not dismissal): Added feature:language-model-lex-grammar-bundle gate on PythonLanguageModel in python.dag documenting Theme-A #9 peer parity and dissolve-on Node projection at ingest boundary (cf. kotlin_mvp1_target_model_node).

No separate per-language Node carrier in this PR — that would be a cross-slice Theme-A ingest task, not wave-2a lex/grammar fill.

cursor review 19655 (APPROVE @ 616c62b12) — verified; no further code change.

Findings match current HEAD: T-4.17 wave-2a lex/grammar/PythonLanguageModel fill; bounded 🟡 scaffolds (T-6 layout literals, decimal-int subset, CP-1b FormalProduction→GrammarExpr shim with documented smoke ratchet reversal); catalog canonical_symbols via lex_rule_set_token_class_member / grammar_carries_symbol; no extdeps→compiler imports; P5 +0-path receipt pairing. BLOCKING (1)

Root Cause

  • src/v4/test/claim/manual/python_mvp1_grammar_claim.dag the new manual TestClaim file did not use the required four-line .dag header template → add Owns and Consumes before module.

ROADMAP — Verified

  • T-PB-B: The hand-Rust same-path ratchet expansion is deferred to ROADMAP.md Nine lanes row T-PB-B / pb_rust_tests_outside_residual_zero.

⚠️ One new .dag claim file still violates the required model-file header contract.

BLOCKING inline @ python_mvp1_grammar_claim.dag:5 (Owns/Consumes header) — not valid under current Practice 9; no code change.

docs/modeling-discipline.md §9 (lines 540–552) and src/v4/TASKS.md (T-4 de-prose KEEP/REMOVE, ~2117–2121) state explicitly: // Owns: and // Consumes: are removed from ordinary .dag files — ownership is the module body (claim_python_mvp1_grammar_validates, claim_python_mvp1_grammar_parses_mvp_tokens declared here); consumption is the import graph (v4.compiler.parse, v4.compiler.tokenize, v4.extdeps.languages.python, v4.std.*). Only strict-deprose allowlist files carry machine-generated Consumes: for the header-check gate.

This claim file uses the terse header allowed for ordinary files: path + Scope: + Status: — same pattern as peer src/v4/test/claim/parse/rust_wave2a.dag. Re-adding hand-maintained Owns/Consumes would reintroduce the parallel prose ledger Practice 9 removed (and contradict the openai-pro RC that dropped them from both new Python claim files).

python_wave2a.dag follows the same contract.

BLOCKING (3)

Root Cause

  • src/v4/extdeps/languages/python.dag wave-2a added new substrate carriers while preserving the old module Owns line → update the header to include the new owned carriers in the same PR.
  • src/v4/extdeps/languages/python.dag the GrammarProduction shim introduced a list append operation without importing its canonical std helper → import list_append from the owning std module or rewrite through imported list construction.
  • src/v4/extdeps/languages/python.dag the Rust receipt was renamed without the matching python.dag declaration rename → align the asserted function name with the model or rename the model helper in the same diff.

Cursor RC (python_formal_mvp1_fn_add_rhs naming) — addressed in 98f2911a4: v4_compiler_emit_translate_smoke_test.rs now asserts surface_declares_fn(..., "python_formal_rhs_from_token_classes"), matching python.dag:945 and peer slices after #3828/#3847 (grammar_formal_production + shared RHS helper naming).

Merge conflict / main integration — branch rebased/merged through main@5b904f0cf (5a07498dc); python.dag has no conflict markers; uses grammar_formal_terminal / grammar_formal_nonterminal_occurrence / grammar_formal_production from v4.std.grammar with wave-2a CP-1b shims retained.

Claude spot-check (legacy-import polarity) — acknowledged: INVARIANTS row + smoke ratchet describe bounded python_formal_productions_to_grammar_expr shim; legacy-import rejection remains on the wave-2b dissolution row in the same PR.

Addressing the recent inline blocking threads on current HEAD:

python.dag:269 / codex schedule review (wave-2a fixture in extdeps) — fixed in 3f346aaa1: python_wave2a_non_mvp_source now lives in src/v4/test/claim/parse/python_wave2a.dag beside python_wave2a_file, matching rust_wave2a.dag / kotlin_wave2a.dag / swift_wave2a.dag. Removed from extdeps/languages/python.dag.

python.dag:138 (Owns header stale after PythonLanguageModel) — already on HEAD before this push: line-3 // Owns: lists PythonLanguageModel and the wave-2a lex/grammar symbols (since b70b5c6da).

python.dag:1049 (list_append import) — already on HEAD: import v4.std.algebra { Empty, fold_list, list_append, list_snoc_item } at line 12; python_formal_production_alts resolves against that import.
