Auto-opened by session-dashboard for session vivid-wren-215 (continued by cool-newt-327).

Worker attestation

  • Title describes the change (not the session id or branch).
  • PR body summarises what and why.
  • Tests run: CI v4 + fmt + affected on push (see latest run on HEAD).
  • If this closes a work item, the body contains a Closes #N directive. (Analyses Finding Remove LLM response caching module #9 — no GitHub issue number.)
  • No commits on this branch are surprises (no fork/cherry-pick I did not make).
  • No secrets / credentials / large binaries staged.

Summary

Dissolves the feature:formatter-config-patch gate across all formatter *_layer functions by introducing shared v4.std.patch substrate (FieldPatch<T> = Override | Inherit, apply_field_patch, right-biased compose_field_patch, field_patch_monoid<T>() witness grounded in v4.std.algebra). Each formatter gets a *ConfigPatch record with per-field FieldPatch<T> patches; Prettier drops its bespoke Prettier*Patch coproduct family in favor of the shared carrier. Structural law/behavior receipts live in src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag, including Override-vs-Override right-bias through both compose_field_patch and field_patch_monoid().semigroup.magma.op.

Test plan

  • CI green on session/vivid-wren-215 @ 9c119e5d2 (fmt, affected, v4)
  • field_patch_monoid.dag compiles as part of v4 module graph (CI v4 job)

…ch<T> monoid and *ConfigPatch types for all formatters

Implements ConfigPatch monoid for all 9 formatter files, dissolving the
feature:formatter-config-patch gate. Adds v4.std.patch { FieldPatch<T>,
apply_field_patch } (two-element Override/Inherit lattice per field) and
introduces *ConfigPatch record types + updated *_layer signatures for:
black, clang_format, google_java_format, ktfmt, lean4_format, prettier,
rustfmt, swift_format (gofmt trivially empty — no fields).

BLOCKING (2)

Root Cause

  • src/v4/std/patch.dag Formatter patch algebra was modeled as an eliminator instead of an algebra inhabitance → add right-biased compose plus Inherit identity and expose the FieldPatch/ConfigPatch monoid structurally before consumers depend on it.
  • src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag Prettier's real config keys were grouped under PrettierFormattingOptions before deriving the patch surface → introduce a PrettierFormattingOptionsPatch/apply helper or flatten those keys so each real option has its own FieldPatch.

⚠️ Two substrate-level patch modeling gaps need fixing before this lands.

Grounds the declared monoid substrate against std/algebra: adds
compose_field_patch<T> (right-biased semigroup op, later layer wins)
and field_patch_monoid<T> -> Monoid<FieldPatch<T>> that assembles the
Magma/Semigroup/Monoid chain. Identity is Inherit.

Resolves the blocking inline review comment on PR #3705.

Replace coarse FieldPatch<PrettierFormattingOptions> with 23 per-field
patches mirroring PrettierFormattingOptions, so a layer can express a
single option override without full-record replacement. Update
prettier_layer to thread apply_field_patch per field via base.options.*
projection. Matches the per-field granularity of every other formatter
ConfigPatch.

Both blocking findings from the codex review (SHA 92b04c5) are already resolved in subsequent commits:

Finding 1 — patch.dag missing compose/identity witness
Fixed in ff27e84: added compose_field_patch<T> (right-biased semigroup op) and field_patch_monoid<T>() -> Monoid<FieldPatch<T>> grounded in v4.std.algebra { Magma, Semigroup, Monoid }. Identity is Inherit; compose picks Override when right arm carries it.

Finding 2 — PrettierConfigPatch wraps whole PrettierFormattingOptions in one FieldPatch
Fixed in 3957e39: PrettierConfigPatch now has 23 per-field FieldPatch<T> entries mirroring each field of PrettierFormattingOptions directly, plus overrides: FieldPatch<List<PrettierOverrideEntry>>. prettier_layer threads apply_field_patch per field via base.options.* projection — matching the per-field granularity of every other formatter ConfigPatch.

CI failure is pre-existing, not caused by this PR.

The failing step "T-22 host eval receipt — eval(tree, interpretation, inputs)" was already failing on main at the SM5 commit (6f2619992) that this branch is based on (CI run 26461108079: conclusion=failure for T-22). The most recent passing main run (26461083023, "v2 emitter" commit) had T-22 as skipped.

My changes touch only src/v4/std/patch.dag and src/v4/extdeps/formatters/*.dag — none of the v4 compiler eval machinery or src/v4/test/claim/manual/eval_runtime_mvp.dag. The T-22 failure predates this branch.

Already resolved in ff27e84 (pushed before this comment was relayed). src/v4/std/patch.dag currently has:

  • compose_field_patch<T>: right-biased semigroup op (Override wins, later layer wins)
  • field_patch_monoid<T>() -> Monoid<FieldPatch<T>>: full witness grounded in v4.std.algebra { Magma, Semigroup, Monoid }
  • Identity element is Inherit

Line 22 in the current file is the start of apply_field_patch, which is present alongside the compose/identity witness — not a missing piece.

1. Story of the diff

This PR replaces the formatter layer model from “outer full config replaces base full config” to a typed, per-field patch model. The new shared substrate is src/v4/std/patch.dag, which introduces FieldPatch<T> = Override { value: T } | Inherit, an apply_field_patch accessor, right-biased compose_field_patch, and a Monoid<FieldPatch<T>> witness. Each formatter config now gets a corresponding *ConfigPatch record whose fields are FieldPatch<...>, and each *_layer function reconstructs a full config by applying each patch field to the base config field.

The important architectural move is that Prettier’s bespoke family of PrettierIntPatch, PrettierBoolPatch, etc. disappears in favor of one generic FieldPatch<T>, while the other formatter files dissolve their old feature:formatter-config-patch gate by replacing the full-config outer parameter with a patch parameter. That is the right direction: one shared patch carrier, no formatter-private patch taxonomies, and layer semantics expressed as data rather than as full-record replacement.

2. Invariant categories

1. LAYER MODEL — substrate vs implementation

Compliant — this is substrate-touching work, not implementation-only: src/v4/std/patch.dag:16 introduces a shared FieldPatch<T> carrier and the formatter files consume it through imports such as src/v4/extdeps/formatters/black.dag:8, rather than each formatter owning an independent patch representation. The shape keeps illegal partial-layer states explicit: a field either has an override payload or inherits.

2. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md

Finding — src/v4/std/patch.dag:6 violates the .dag no-prose / single-authority discipline. The new substrate file adds a five-line explanatory “External authority” paragraph at src/v4/std/patch.dag:6-10, and then another three-line prose proof sketch at src/v4/std/patch.dag:31-33. For .dag files, the modeling discipline allows the path line, four-line terse header, optional anchor, and one-line carrier tags; rationale and process explanation belong in PR review / commit message, not in the model file. chatgpt-review-c9a559b3-2af7-4e…

The fix is mechanical: keep the four-line header, retain the required coproduct tag at src/v4/std/patch.dag:16, convert any external reference to a single // Anchor: only if needed, and move the right-biased-moniod rationale out of the .dag file.

3. CODING.md

Finding — src/v4/std/patch.dag:31 repeats the same issue at the code-style level: the comments explain ordinary control-flow / law intent that the names already carry (compose_field_patch, field_patch_monoid, identity: Inherit). CODING.md permits narrow boundary/invariant comments, but this is a new model file where the stricter .dag comment contract applies; the law evidence should be structural, not prose. The Rust-style/data+free-function posture is otherwise respected: no new Rust object surface, hidden state, or method-heavy API is introduced.

4. TESTING.md

Finding — src/v4/std/patch.dag:42 introduces an executable Monoid<FieldPatch<T>> witness, but the diff adds no corresponding .dag TestClaim / algebra-law receipt for the new law-bearing surface. Because the PR’s user-visible contract is “formatter ConfigPatch monoid” and the work is now executable, parseability alone is not enough: at minimum, add structural claims for Inherit as left/right identity and right-biased associativity over compose_field_patch, plus one representative formatter-layer behavior proving Inherit preserves the base field and Override replaces it. The thesis explicitly treats operation-law verification as a Tier-3 structural obligation, including L7 “operations obey declared algebraic laws.” chatgpt-review-ce951f75-6ef5-40…

5. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS

Compliant — I do not see a locked-design divergence. The PR is aligned with the uploaded authority that root primitives include Monoid and that operations should fall out of declared algebraic inhabitance rather than formatter-local special cases. chatgpt-review-ce951f75-6ef5-40…

6. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT

Compliant — the old feature:formatter-config-patch scaffolds on the formatter *_layer functions are actually dissolved, not reworded. I did not see new TODOs or new formatter-private patch bridges. FieldPatch<T> itself carries a terminal coproduct tag at src/v4/std/patch.dag:16, and Prettier’s old bespoke patch coproduct family is removed rather than retained in parallel.

2.5. Top-down PM intent review

Compliant — semantically, the PR preserves the work’s highest-level intent: all formatter layering is now routed through a shared per-field patch carrier, and the prior full-config replacement behavior is gone. This supports the project direction that target/model growth should be local and structural rather than a new compiler path or formatter-specific taxonomy. chatgpt-review-ce951f75-6ef5-40…

The blocking problems are execution hygiene around that intent, not a PM-level mismatch: the substrate model needs to shed prose authority and carry an executable law/test receipt for the monoid it now declares.

3. Verdict

REQUEST_CHANGES

The core modeling move is correct and meaningfully dissolves the formatter-config-patch gate. Before merge, src/v4/std/patch.dag should be de-prosed to match the .dag file contract, and the new FieldPatch<T> monoid should get structural law/behavior receipts now that the PR declares it executable.

Replace the local field_patch_bool_eq match-over-storage-shape with
law witnesses expressed purely through apply_field_patch (canonical

composed patch to a concrete base and checking the Bool result.

1. Story of the diff

This PR dissolves the old formatter-layer scaffold where each formatter’s *_layer accepted a full outer config and simply replaced the base config. It introduces v4.std.patch.FieldPatch<T> as the shared Override { value } | Inherit per-field patch substrate, plus apply_field_patch, right-biased compose_field_patch, and a field_patch_monoid<T>() witness in src/v4/std/patch.dag:14, src/v4/std/patch.dag:19, src/v4/std/patch.dag:27, and src/v4/std/patch.dag:35. The formatter files then define *ConfigPatch records and rebuild each final config by applying patch fields one by one; Prettier also deletes its bespoke Prettier*Patch coproduct family and moves onto the shared FieldPatch<T> surface, for example at src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag:205 and src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag:233. I checked the changed formatter layer mechanics across the patch records: the layer functions consistently consume their declared patch fields, including the empty GofmtConfigPatch case where gofmt_layer correctly returns the empty base config at src/v4/extdeps/formatters/gofmt.dag:16 and src/v4/extdeps/formatters/gofmt.dag:19.

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL (substrate vs implementation).

Finding — src/v4/std/patch.dag:35: P2 Boundary Discipline / single authority. This PR touches std substrate by declaring field_patch_monoid<T>() as the public algebra witness for FieldPatch<T>, but the added behavior claims do not consume that witness. The claim file imports FieldPatch, constructors, compose_field_patch, and apply_field_patch at src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:10, then proves laws by calling compose_field_patch directly at src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:39, src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:43, src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:49, and src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:52. A regression where field_patch_monoid<T>() wires the wrong identity or the wrong op would pass the new receipts, so the substrate witness is declared but not mechanically consumed. Add a same-PR structural claim that reaches the operation and identity through field_patch_monoid<T>(), not just through the helper functions it is supposed to expose.

  1. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md.

Finding — src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:10: Boundary Discipline / facts flow forward. The PR’s load-bearing new fact is the Monoid<FieldPatch<T>> witness, but the verification surface bypasses it by importing the raw compose/apply helpers instead of the monoid witness. This leaves two surfaces that can diverge: the helper functions tested by the claims, and the Monoid record exported by field_patch_monoid<T>() at src/v4/std/patch.dag:35. The fix is to make the law receipts consume the canonical monoid record, so the declared substrate fact is the single authority tested by downstream claims.

  1. CODING.md.

Compliant — the changed .dag code is data plus free functions: apply_field_patch at src/v4/std/patch.dag:19 and compose_field_patch at src/v4/std/patch.dag:27 have narrow signatures, no hidden state, and no implementation-side fallback path. The formatter layer functions are also straightforward data transformations, for example black_layer at src/v4/extdeps/formatters/black.dag:116 and prettier_layer at src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag:233.

  1. TESTING.md.

Finding — src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:39: behavior-driven coverage misses the public contract. The added test claims cover direct helper behavior, but the user-facing algebra contract is the field_patch_monoid<T>() witness. Because the claims at src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:39, src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:43, src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:49, and src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:52 call compose_field_patch directly, they would not catch a bad Monoid.identity or Monoid.semigroup.magma.op in src/v4/std/patch.dag:35. The missing test is at the right level for this PR because the PR is explicitly adding the monoid witness.

  1. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS.

N/A — the diff does not alter a locked design doc or introduce a conflicting plan. The implementation direction is aligned with the supplied brief: dissolve the formatter-config-patch gate into per-field Override/Inherit patching.

  1. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT.

Compliant — the old feature:formatter-config-patch gates are removed rather than preserved as scaffolding, and the new claim file’s execution boundary is explicitly named as the T-22 runner bridge at src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:5 with discovery routed through the T-22 runner at src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:6. That does not excuse the missing monoid-witness consumer above, but I do not see a new unbounded TODO or permanent bridge in the formatter patch model itself.

2.5. Top-down PM intent review

Compliant — semantically, the formatter layer intent is preserved: formatter config merging now uses per-field FieldPatch<T> records instead of whole-config replacement, and the old gated comments are deleted. The remaining blocker is not a plan dilution; it is that the new monoid witness advertised by the PR is not yet consumed by the added receipts.

3. Verdict

REQUEST_CHANGES. The formatter patch mechanics look sound, but the new substrate-level field_patch_monoid<T>() witness is not tested or consumed through its public Monoid surface. For a PR whose contract is “implement formatter ConfigPatch monoid,” that missing consumer proof should be fixed before merge.

briansrls and others added 2 commits May 27, 2026 00:37
Add fp_monoid_op/fp_monoid_identity helpers that extract from
field_patch_monoid<Bool>() and three new TestClaims that route through

bad wiring of .identity or .semigroup.magma.op inside the Monoid record
would be detected.

Non-blocking — Strengths

  • src/v4/std/patch.dag The new FieldPatch substrate is classified, algebraically grounded, and consumed by formatter patch layers without introducing a competing optional-value authority.

✅ No blocking modeling, fidelity, or dissolution concerns in the provided diff.

DAG parser treats `f<Bool>()` as a comparison expression, not a generic
type application — `Bool` is undefined as a variable. Drop the explicit
type arguments; inference resolves T=Bool from the declared return types
of fp_monoid_op and fp_monoid_identity.

1. Story of the diff

Before this PR, the formatter *_layer functions were still scaffolded as whole-config replacement: the old shape took (base, outer) and returned outer, so it could not express “only this field overrides, all other fields inherit.” This PR introduces v4.std.patch.FieldPatch<T> as the shared Override { value } | Inherit carrier, plus apply_field_patch, compose_field_patch, and a field_patch_monoid<T> witness in src/v4/std/patch.dag:14-35. Each formatter now defines a *ConfigPatch record whose fields are FieldPatch<field-type> and rewrites its layer function to rebuild the full config field-by-field via apply_field_patch, for example BlackConfigPatch and black_layer at src/v4/extdeps/formatters/black.dag:96 and src/v4/extdeps/formatters/black.dag:116.

The PR also dissolves Prettier’s bespoke per-type patch coproducts into the shared carrier: PrettierOverrideOptions now stores FieldPatch<T> fields directly at src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag:131, while top-level PrettierConfigPatch feeds prettier_layer at src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag:205 and src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag:233. Gofmt correctly lands the degenerate case as an empty patch over an empty config: GofmtConfigPatch {} and gofmt_layer returns base at src/v4/extdeps/formatters/gofmt.dag:16 and src/v4/extdeps/formatters/gofmt.dag:19.

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL — Compliant. This PR does touch reusable substrate by adding src/v4/std/patch.dag; the state space is modeled directly as FieldPatch<T> = Override { value: T } | Inherit at src/v4/std/patch.dag:14-16, so the illegal “partial patch but no field-level inherit/override state” is no longer representable.
  2. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md — Compliant. Single authority and Practice 11 are handled well: Prettier’s family of duplicated Prettier*Patch coproducts is removed and replaced with the one parameterized FieldPatch<T> carrier consumed by PrettierOverrideOptions at src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag:131-155.
  3. CODING.md — Compliant. The new code stays in data + free-function form: apply_field_patch, compose_field_patch, and field_patch_monoid are small named functions over explicit inputs, not methods or hidden state, at src/v4/std/patch.dag:19-35.
  4. TESTING.md — Finding. src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:65 tests associativity only by checking that the two composed results are equal after application, and the monoid witness checks at src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:80 and src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:83 only cover identity cases. A left-biased optional monoid would pass those same claims, so the new receipts do not actually pin the load-bearing “right override wins” behavior implemented by compose_field_patch at src/v4/std/patch.dag:27-30. Please add at least one behavior claim where both operands are Override and the right operand must win, ideally through both compose_field_patch and the field_patch_monoid().semigroup.magma.op surface, or via the stronger action law: applying compose(left, right) to a base equals applying left and then right sequentially.
  5. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS — N/A. I did not see this diff alter a locked design document or diverge from the uploaded Pure Bootstrap / thesis authorities; the PR stays inside the T-4.16 formatter-patch follow-on surface.
  6. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT — Compliant. The explicit feature: formatter-config-patch gates are removed rather than replaced with new TODOs or yellow scaffolds; the remaining Status: T-4.16 scaffold headers are pre-existing formatter-surface status, not new unbounded patch debt.

2.5. Top-down PM intent review

Compliant. The PR preserves the high-level intent: it moves formatter configuration layering away from whole-record overwrite scaffolding and toward a shared modeled substrate carrier, which is the direction the brief asks for. I do not see semantic dilution into permanent scaffolding, hand-written Rust, or a parallel formatter-specific patch family; the one blocker is that the new TestClaim corpus does not yet guard the right-bias behavior strongly enough.

3. Verdict

REQUEST_CHANGES

The implementation shape is aligned with the modeling direction, but the behavior receipts miss the central right-biased override contract. Because FieldPatch<T> is new reusable std/ substrate and patch composition order is load-bearing for layered formatter configs, add a focused right-bias/action-law TestClaim before merge.

PM review note (root session, May 27): This PR has an unfilled template body (attestation checkboxes unchecked, TODO paragraphs) and the most recent review (openai-pro, review 18538) requests changes. The PR cannot proceed to merge with these outstanding items.

Worker action needed (vivid-wren-215):

  1. Fill the PR body: replace TODO paragraphs with a real summary of what changed and why
  2. Check all attestation items (confirm the worker authored every commit on this branch)
  3. Address the openai-pro request-changes review — read the artifact at /api/reviews/18538/artifacts/stdout.log and fix what's flagged

The underlying content (ConfigPatch types for all formatter files, FieldPatch<T>-based *_layer functions replacing the stub full-config-replacement placeholders) appears technically sound from the diff, but cannot be approved while the template is unfilled and there's an outstanding RC.

If vivid-wren-215 is no longer active, a follow-on session should inherit this PR branch and complete it.

1. Story of the diff

This PR replaces formatter layering’s old “outer full config wins” shape with a real per-field patch model. The new substrate piece is v4.std.patch: FieldPatch<T> is the shared Override { value: T } | Inherit carrier, apply_field_patch applies one field override, compose_field_patch implements later-layer/right-biased composition, and field_patch_monoid exposes that as a Monoid<FieldPatch<T>> (src/v4/std/patch.dag:15-50). chatgpt-review-0c8deedf-2b3a-48…

The formatter files then stop treating layer inputs as whole configs and instead introduce *ConfigPatch records whose fields are FieldPatch<...> values, with *_layer(base, patch) rebuilding each formatter config by applying the shared field patch helper field-by-field; Black is the compact example at src/v4/extdeps/formatters/black.dag:96-136, while clang-format and rustfmt are the large mechanical mirrors. Prettier additionally dissolves its bespoke Prettier*Patch coproduct family into the same generic FieldPatch<T> and keeps nested formatting options as a nested patch record (src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag:132-155, src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag:205-274). The TASKS entry is updated to make this the live T-4.16 formatter layering contract and to explicitly track the remaining hand-mirror debt behind feature:config-patch-record-projection (src/v4/TASKS.md:1810-1830). chatgpt-review-0c8deedf-2b3a-48…

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL (substrate vs implementation). Compliant — this does touch substrate, and the new substrate authority is appropriately shared: FieldPatch<T> is modeled once in v4.std.patch (src/v4/std/patch.dag:15-17) and formatter-specific files consume it instead of authoring parallel patch coproducts. The formatter modules stay in the config-substrate layer and import v4.std.patch, not compiler modules; e.g. Black imports FieldPatch / apply_field_patch and applies them per config field (src/v4/extdeps/formatters/black.dag:96-136).
  2. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md. Compliant — single authority / derived-operation discipline is improved, not weakened: Prettier’s duplicated patch coproduct family is removed and replaced by FieldPatch<T> fields (src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag:132-155), while the actual semantics are centralized in apply_field_patch and compose_field_patch (src/v4/std/patch.dag:25-37). Progress-is-dissolution is also tracked: the record-mirror scaffold is named as feature:config-patch-record-projection, with owner and dissolve-on-arrival trigger in src/v4/TASKS.md:1830 and the corresponding std gate at src/v4/std/patch.dag:12.
  3. CODING.md. Compliant — the new logic is expressed as small free functions over data, not methods or hidden state: field_patch_inherit, apply_field_patch, compose_field_patch, and field_patch_monoid are all direct input → output functions in src/v4/std/patch.dag:20-50. The longer formatter layer bodies are mechanical record rebuilds, but they are also the explicitly tracked interim mirror shape, not explanatory-control-flow code.
  4. TESTING.md. Compliant — the PR adds .dag TestClaim coverage rather than Rust harnesses, aligned with the project’s structural-test trajectory. The corpus covers direct apply/compose behavior, identity, right-bias, associativity, and consumption through the monoid witness surface (src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:52-89), then exposes those as Tier1 unit claims (src/v4/test/claim/algebra_laws/field_patch_monoid.dag:94-181). This matches the 0-floor direction that tests are .dag TestClaim data rather than hand-authored Rust tests. chatgpt-review-936888bf-76e5-4a…
  5. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS. N/A — no locked design doc is changed, and I did not find a diff-cited mismatch against a locked authority. The implementation stays within the v4/Pure Bootstrap direction by adding .dag substrate and .dag TestClaim data, not new hand-Rust surfaces. chatgpt-review-9cca105f-7a5c-4d…
  6. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT. Compliant — the new temporary shape is explicitly tracked. src/v4/std/patch.dag:12 names the missing feature (config-patch-record-projection), the bound task (src/v4/TASKS.md §T-4.16), the dissolution trigger, and the forbidden steady state; formatter mirrors carry matching consumer:config-patch-record-projection tags, e.g. src/v4/extdeps/formatters/black.dag:96 and src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag:205, src/v4/extdeps/formatters/prettier.dag:262.

2.5. Top-down PM intent review

Compliant — the PM-level intent is preserved. The T-4.16 contract now says formatter layering is *ConfigPatch plus apply_field_patch per field, with the old full-config replacement scaffold dissolved (src/v4/TASKS.md:1810-1829), and the diff implements that exact mechanism through the shared FieldPatch<T> substrate plus formatter patch records. The remaining manual record mirrors do not become permanent scaffolding: src/v4/TASKS.md:1830 and src/v4/std/patch.dag:12 both name the projection feature and dissolve-on-arrival rule. The PR also stays aligned with the higher Pure Bootstrap / structural testing direction by adding .dag substrate and .dag TestClaim rows, not a new handwritten Rust implementation surface.

3. Verdict

APPROVE

I found no blocking invariant violations. The PR centralizes patch semantics in v4.std.patch, migrates formatter layering to that shared authority, dissolves Prettier’s bespoke patch coproducts, and tracks the remaining record-projection mirror debt with a named gate and trigger.

Non-blocking — Strengths

  • src/v4/std/patch.dag FieldPatch is classified, algebraically witnessed, and consumed consistently by the formatter patch layers.

✅ The PR looks clean; I found no blocking modeling, fidelity, or dissolution concerns.

briansrls added a commit that referenced this pull request May 28, 2026
* WIP: Analyses Finding #9 — implement formatter ConfigPatch monoid (T-4.16 fol

* T-4.16 follow-on: dissolve formatter-config-patch gate — add FieldPatch<T> monoid and *ConfigPatch types for all formatters

Implements ConfigPatch monoid for all 9 formatter files, dissolving the
feature:formatter-config-patch gate. Adds v4.std.patch { FieldPatch<T>,
apply_field_patch } (two-element Override/Inherit lattice per field) and
introduces *ConfigPatch record types + updated *_layer signatures for:
black, clang_format, google_java_format, ktfmt, lean4_format, prettier,
rustfmt, swift_format (gofmt trivially empty — no fields).

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* prettier.dag: replace bespoke Prettier*Patch coproducts with FieldPatch<T>

Delete the 12 formatter-local patch coproducts (PrettierIntPatch,
PrettierBoolPatch, and the ten enum-specific variants) and migrate
PrettierOverrideOptions to FieldPatch<T> — eliminating the parallel
authority that violated INVARIANTS.md P2/P5.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* patch.dag: add compose_field_patch + field_patch_monoid<T> witness (M9/P1)

Grounds the declared monoid substrate against std/algebra: adds
compose_field_patch<T> (right-biased semigroup op, later layer wins)
and field_patch_monoid<T> -> Monoid<FieldPatch<T>> that assembles the
Magma/Semigroup/Monoid chain. Identity is Inherit.

Resolves the blocking inline review comment on PR #3705.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* prettier.dag: expand PrettierConfigPatch to per-field FieldPatch<T>

Replace coarse FieldPatch<PrettierFormattingOptions> with 23 per-field
patches mirroring PrettierFormattingOptions, so a layer can express a
single option override without full-record replacement. Update
prettier_layer to thread apply_field_patch per field via base.options.*
projection. Matches the per-field granularity of every other formatter
ConfigPatch.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* WIP: Analyses Finding #9 — implement formatter ConfigPatch monoid (T-4.16 fol

* patch.dag: correct grounding — right-biased optional-value monoid, not two-element lattice

FieldPatch<T> is 1 + T: for non-singleton T, distinct Override values
are distinct patches, so there is no single lattice top. Reframe the
external authority comment as the right-biased optional-value patch
monoid (Inherit = identity, Override = payload) — matching what the
compose/monoid witness actually implements.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* WIP: Analyses Finding #9 — implement formatter ConfigPatch monoid (T-4.16 fol

* field_patch_monoid.dag: remove hand-rolled field_patch_bool_eq (Practice 10)

Replace the local field_patch_bool_eq match-over-storage-shape with
law witnesses expressed purely through apply_field_patch (canonical
eliminator) and Bool == Bool equality — no new derived operation over
the FieldPatch coproduct. Each monoid law is now proven by applying the
composed patch to a concrete base and checking the Bool result.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* field_patch_monoid.dag: fix parse error — data initializer must start on same line as =

Move multi-line data initializers onto one line; extract associativity
witness into compose_assoc_lhs/rhs helper functions to keep line length
reasonable. Parser requires expression to begin on the same line as the
= token in a data declaration.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* test: wire monoid witness consumer claims in field_patch_monoid.dag

Add fp_monoid_op/fp_monoid_identity helpers that extract from
field_patch_monoid<Bool>() and three new TestClaims that route through
the Monoid witness surface rather than the raw helpers directly — so a
bad wiring of .identity or .semigroup.magma.op inside the Monoid record
would be detected.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix: remove explicit <Bool> type args from field_patch_monoid calls

DAG parser treats `f<Bool>()` as a comparison expression, not a generic
type application — `Bool` is undefined as a variable. Drop the explicit
type arguments; inference resolves T=Bool from the declared return types
of fp_monoid_op and fp_monoid_identity.

* fix: gate ConfigPatch record mirrors under config-patch-record-projection

Codex BLOCKING on PR #3761: scalar FieldPatch<T> is sound but per-formatter
*ConfigPatch types are hand-maintained mirrors of *Config. Add the owning
feature gate in v4.std.patch (T-4.16 follow-on dissolve-on) and consumer
tags on every formatter ConfigPatch until record-field projection lands.

Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>

* fix: clarify patch anchor and config-patch-record-projection owner

Claude REQUEST_CHANGES on #3761: drop misleading NixOS/Home Manager
anchor (implementation is right-biased optional-value monoid, not
commutative mkForce/mkDefault). Tighten feature gate wording and add
T-4.16 TASKS.md owner row for interim *ConfigPatch hand mirrors.

Codex REQUEST_CHANGES on #3705: TASKS.md still described superseded
*_layer(base, outer) full-config replacement while formatter files now
use *_layer(base, patch: *ConfigPatch) with v4.std.patch FieldPatch.

Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>

* fix(prettier): align PrettierConfigPatch with PrettierConfig shape

Codex REQUEST_CHANGES #3761: stop flattening PrettierFormattingOptions
fields into PrettierConfigPatch. Introduce PrettierFormattingOptionsPatch
nested under options; overrides stays FieldPatch<List<...>> — matches
PrettierConfig { options, overrides } for P2 / projection contract.
