Summary

  • Fills src/v4/std/report.dag: Report, ReportReason, ReportSuggestion advisory carriers (C7 discipline — never Witness, never blocking by default)
  • Fills src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag: closed LowerBoundTechnique coproduct (5 variants, operator-ratified 2026-05-15), DeclaredRelationBound, SynthesisOutcome, and synthesis_lens(n: Node) -> List<Report>
  • DecisionTree worked case: gap when realization strictly dominates Θ(n log n)
  • InformationTheoretic worked case: gap when realization strictly dominates Ω(n) (explicit ClassLinear equality check required — asymptotic_class_dominates(ClassLinear, ClassLinear) = true)
  • AlgebraicRank, AdversaryCommunication, ReductionConditional: declared in coproduct, stubbed as SynthesisNoTechnique with TODO
  • Adds TestClaim synthesis_gap_polynomial.dag: polynomial-cost node (nested Cardinality → O(n²)) emits non-empty synthesis advisory

Invariant compliance

  • No parallel representation: LowerBoundTechnique declared once; synthesis_lens is sole synthesis authority
  • STOP-and-escalate still applies for 6th technique
  • Report is NOT Witness (INVARIANTS P3/C-8): advisory only; becomes fail-closed only via apply_lens(synthesis, Enforce {...}) in lens/application.dag

1. Story of the diff

I could not inspect the primary review surface. The uploaded pr-3585.diff was present in the conversation metadata, but every direct sandbox read attempt failed with an authorization error; the GitHub connector also could not access gunb-ai/gunbc / PR #3585; and file search did not expose the diff contents. Based only on the PR title, the intended change appears to add advisory cross-algorithm complexity synthesis/reporting around src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag and src/v4/std/report.dag, with worked cases for LowerBoundTechnique, DecisionTree, and InformationTheoretic; that is not enough to verify the mechanism, changed substrate shapes, test coverage, or line-level invariant compliance.

I am not reporting any code findings because doing so without changed-line inspection would be fabricated.

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL (substrate vs implementation).

N/A — primary diff inaccessible. The PR title suggests std/ and lens/ .dag surfaces, which would normally require substrate-level scrutiny, but I could not inspect concrete changed lines.

  1. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md.

N/A — no changed .dag lines were available to check for fail-closed behavior, facts flowing forward, coproduct dissolution tags, derived-operation/predicate dissolution, single authority, or API-level enforcement. This matters because the project’s own reviewer rubric requires exact diff/file-line evaluation, and modeling findings must be resolved through the 🔴/🟡/🟢 disposition discipline rather than advisory notes. chatgpt-review-fd2d9881-57b6-46…

chatgpt-review-5f6edc75-3df0-4f…

  1. CODING.md.

N/A — no Rust implementation hunks were available to inspect for data + free-function style, comment discipline, helper placement, structured return types, or hidden state. The relevant style bar is clear, but I cannot apply it without code. chatgpt-review-d113bb92-22a9-4d…

  1. TESTING.md.

N/A — I could not see whether tests were added, whether they are behavior-driven, or whether the test level is appropriate for advisory complexity reporting. TESTING.md’s bar is hermetic, behavior-driven, unit-first testing with full-pipeline compile reserved for pipeline-level subjects, but the diff is unavailable. chatgpt-review-47bffcb4-61ee-46…

  1. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS.

N/A — no diff lines were available to compare against locked thesis/design commitments. I also cannot verify whether this PR touches any locked design language or merely implements existing T-17 scope.

  1. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT.

N/A — no scaffold, TODO, 🟡 gate, staged carrier, or temporary Rust/test receipt could be inspected. I cannot assert whether new debt is tracked or untracked.

2.5. Top-down PM intent review

N/A — the PM-level intent appears to be in the thesis direction of structural correctness dimensions and user-extensible lenses, where complexity and other correctness dimensions are structural facts rather than post-hoc behavioral checks. chatgpt-review-4e825342-1b6e-44…

But I do not have a concrete diff line to compare against that authority, so I cannot claim semantic preservation or dilution.

3. Verdict

REQUEST_CHANGES

This is an access-blocked review verdict, not a code-defect verdict. I cannot approve a PR whose primary diff I could not inspect, and I cannot produce valid gunbc findings without concrete changed file:line citations.

I could not access the attached diff through the available file/runtime tools, and the GitHub PR code/diff endpoints returned 404 for the private/internal PR. The only PR-specific material I could inspect was the PR metadata/body, which says the change adds src/v4/std/report.dag, src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag, and src/v4/test/claim/generated/synthesis_gap_polynomial.dag.

Because your review rubric requires concrete changed file:line citations for findings, I am not manufacturing line-level code findings from the PR body. This is therefore a constrained review, not a complete line-level review.

1. Story of the diff

Based on the PR body, this PR adds an advisory synthesis lens over v4 DAG nodes: std/report.dag defines advisory Report carriers, while lens/synthesis.dag defines a closed LowerBoundTechnique vocabulary and a synthesis_lens(n: Node) -> List<Report> that emits non-blocking recommendations when an implementation’s observed/realized complexity is asymptotically worse than a known lower-bound technique. The two worked cases are DecisionTree and InformationTheoretic lower bounds; the PR body also says AlgebraicRank, AdversaryCommunication, and ReductionConditional are present in the closed coproduct but stubbed as SynthesisNoTechnique with TODOs. The added generated TestClaim appears to exercise the advisory path with a polynomial-cost node, checking that the synthesis lens produces a non-empty report.

The intended contract appears to be “advisory by default, enforceable only through lens application/enforcement,” which is semantically plausible for a report lens and aligns with the thesis direction that correctness dimensions are structural lenses written in .dag rather than ad hoc runtime checks. The thesis explicitly treats user-authored lenses as first-class correctness dimensions, and says the proof/test surface should be structurally derived rather than hand-maintained. chatgpt-review-34b5bbac-d235-4c…

2. Invariant categories

1. LAYER MODEL — N/A, review surface unavailable

The PR body indicates this is not implementation-only: it touches std/, lens/, and generated .dag test-claim surfaces. That means substrate/modeling discipline would normally apply, especially for new coproducts and new reusable lens behavior. I cannot mark this compliant without seeing the changed lines in src/v4/std/report.dag and src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag, because the important questions are line-local: whether each new coproduct carries the required in-file classification tag, and whether any TODO/stub arms are tracked with a real dissolution trigger. Practice 9 requires coproduct classification tags to live on the coproduct itself, and untagged coproducts block review. chatgpt-review-bb864678-a500-44…

2. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md — N/A, with a concrete verification risk

I cannot issue a formal finding without file:line, but the PR body declares a likely high-risk spot: AlgebraicRank, AdversaryCommunication, and ReductionConditional are “stubbed as SynthesisNoTechnique with TODO.” Under the modeling rules, a gated scaffold must name the gate kind, the missing primitive/consumer, the owning task/PR, and the follow-up that converts it to terminal; vague TODOs or indefinite yellow gates block merge. chatgpt-review-bb864678-a500-44…

The second thing I would verify in the diff is whether the worked-case logic hand-rolls property projection or traversal over Node/cost classes instead of consuming a canonical fold/query. Practice 10 treats property projection by local match as predicate dissolution, and structural recursion over modeled shapes as walker dissolution; such findings are blocking unless resolved by dissolve-now, tracked gated scaffold, or substantiated terminal justification. chatgpt-review-bb864678-a500-44…

chatgpt-review-bb864678-a500-44…

3. CODING.md — N/A, no inspectable Rust implementation

The PR body says no new hand-authored .rs files were added, and I could not inspect any changed Rust. For the .dag files, the coding-adjacent check would be comment discipline rather than Rust style: whether comments are limited to the allowed header/tag/anchor forms and do not narrate implementation rationale. Practice 9 says .dag comments are not a parallel prose authority and should not contain process/rationale prose. chatgpt-review-bb864678-a500-44…

4. TESTING.md — N/A, partially aligned by PR body only

The PR body says it adds a .dag TestClaim, which points in the right direction: TESTING.md’s long-term shape is .dag TestClaim declarations, not Rust imperative harnesses. chatgpt-review-58fac202-f119-46…

I could not inspect whether the test is sufficient. The minimum line-level checks I would expect are: one positive advisory case for polynomial-vs-lower-bound gap, at least one no-gap case so the lens does not over-report, and coverage for both worked algorithms if both are claimed as implemented. Without diff access, I cannot say whether the test discipline is compliant or incomplete.

5. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS — N/A, no concrete mismatch visible

I did not see enough inspectable diff to identify a divergence from locked design docs. From the PR body, the direction looks consistent with the top-level design: lenses are modeled in .dag, reports are advisory rather than Witness, and no new Rust hand-maintained files are claimed. The Pure Bootstrap direction requires hand-authored implementation to dissolve into .dag data/generation rather than grow new Rust surfaces, so a .dag-only lens is directionally aligned. chatgpt-review-06466517-ce17-48…

6. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT — N/A, but this is the main unresolved risk

The PR body explicitly mentions TODO-stubbed techniques. That is acceptable only if the changed lines make the stubs tracked bridges: documentation, bounds, and a named dissolution trigger must all be present. The modeling discipline is explicit that untracked dissolution debt blocks, and that a valid gated item needs a concrete arrival and follow-up, not just a “later” note. chatgpt-review-bb864678-a500-44…

Because I cannot inspect the changed lines, I cannot determine whether those TODOs are valid tracked bridges or untracked debt. I am not converting that into a formal finding without src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:<line>.

2.5. Top-down PM intent review

N/A / cannot complete line-level semantic verification. At the PR-body level, the intent is aligned: this is a .dag lens, it extends the correctness-dimension surface through structural data, and it keeps reports advisory rather than fabricating proof/witness authority. That matches the thesis that dimensions are structural facts/lenses and that proofs/tests are derived from .dag structure. chatgpt-review-34b5bbac-d235-4c…

The PM-level risk is semantic dilution through unfinished permanent scaffolding: a “closed lower-bound technique” surface that contains three TODO-backed technique variants could cause downstream workers to believe those techniques are implemented when they are only named. That is acceptable only if the diff marks them as bounded, gated, and non-authoritative until the named follow-up lands. I cannot verify that from the available material.

3. Verdict

REQUEST_CHANGES. I cannot approve a std//lens/ modeling PR without inspectable changed lines, especially when the PR body declares TODO-stubbed variants inside a new closed technique surface. The likely code may be fine, but the required review evidence—concrete changed file:line citations for coproduct tags, stub tracking, and test coverage—is unavailable here.

… comment

synthesis_gap_reason_symbol and synthesis_reason_gap() were declared but never
called. synthesis_no_technique_reason() was also dead (symbol used directly).
The TODO comment in assess_information_theoretic's else branch was misleading —
that branch is the sub-linear realization path where InformationTheoretic has
no comparison, not a stub for the three unimplemented techniques.

1. Story of the diff

I could not inspect the primary diff. The uploaded pr-3585.diff was not readable through the available local-file path, uploaded-file search did not surface its hunks, and both the web/GitHub connector paths could not fetch the private PR/diff. So the story below is inferred only from the PR title and commit list, not verified against changed lines.

From that metadata, this PR appears to add T-17 advisory cross-algorithm complexity modeling by extending src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag with worked synthesis techniques for LowerBoundTechnique, DecisionTree, and InformationTheoretic, and by extending src/v4/std/report.dag so those advisory assessments can be reported. The follow-up commits suggest the implementation went through .dag parse-shape cleanup: first-variant coproduct syntax, removal of a let before if/else, avoiding a ClassLinear struct-literal parse ambiguity by using double-dominance, and deleting dead symbols/functions while clarifying SynthesisNoTechnique.

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL (substrate vs implementation).

N/A — diff unavailable. The PR metadata says this touches std/ and lens/ .dag files, so it is not implementation-only; it is substrate/lens-adjacent and should be reviewed under full modeling discipline. I could not inspect changed lines to verify whether the new report/synthesis carriers preserve single authority, fail closed, and make illegal states unrepresentable.

  1. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md.

N/A — diff unavailable. The key checks I could not complete are: whether any new technique/result coproducts carry required dissolution disposition tags; whether any is_*, has_*, non_empty, or similar helper over a coproduct hand-rolls a predicate; and whether the advisory complexity report reads a modeled fact rather than reconstructing one. The reference discipline makes hand-rolled derived operations blocking when behavior is fixed by modeled shape, and specifically treats property projection through match as predicate dissolution. chatgpt-review-40beff13-cba8-48…

  1. CODING.md.

N/A — diff unavailable. Metadata suggests this is mostly .dag modeling, not new Rust implementation. I could not inspect whether comments in the changed .dag files stay within the allowed terse boundary/tag style, or whether new helper names/control flow are self-explanatory.

  1. TESTING.md.

N/A — diff unavailable. The PR title says “worked cases,” so I would expect receipts for the LowerBoundTechnique, DecisionTree, and InformationTheoretic cases, preferably in the .dag/structural testing style appropriate for v4 lens work. I could not verify whether tests were added, whether they are behavior-level rather than parse-only, or whether any Rust test scaffold gained the required tracking/dissolution receipt.

  1. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS.

N/A — diff unavailable. At the PM-intent level, advisory user-authored/derived lenses are directionally consistent with the thesis that correctness dimensions are structural facts and that user-defined dimensions are expressed as .dag lenses. chatgpt-review-b39c10c6-82e4-40…

But I could not inspect concrete changed lines for divergence from a locked design.

  1. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT.

N/A — diff unavailable. I could not inspect whether SynthesisNoTechnique, any parse-workaround comments, advisory-only report fields, or new scaffolded technique carriers carry bounds plus named dissolution triggers.

2.5. Top-down PM intent review

N/A — no concrete diff-cited mismatch available. From metadata alone, the intent sounds aligned: adding advisory complexity synthesis in .dag is the kind of structural proof/report surface the thesis wants rather than an external profiler/test-only check. But the PM review requires checking whether the PR turns a must-have structural dimension into optional prose, creates permanent scaffolding, or hand-authors an implementation path where a canonical fold/query should exist; I could not verify those conditions without the changed hunks.

3. Verdict

REQUEST_CHANGES. I cannot approve or produce code findings without the primary diff. This is an access-limited review result, not a claim that the PR has a code defect; the next review pass should focus on changed lines in src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag and src/v4/std/report.dag, especially coproduct disposition, predicate/walker dissolution, advisory report single-authority, and worked-case test coverage.

Per T-17 brief (TASKS.md:800): ReportReason must be a closed-enum
disjoint from Diagnostic.reason (Symbol). Replace the Symbol alias
with SynthesisGapDecisionTree | SynthesisGapInformationTheoretic
coproduct, remove the two loose Symbol data declarations and their
wrapper functions, and use the coproduct constructors directly in
assess_decision_tree/assess_information_theoretic. Drop unused
ReportSuggestion.

1. Story of the diff

This PR turns src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag from a scaffold into an advisory synthesis lens: it imports the existing complexity/cost surfaces, introduces a closed LowerBoundTechnique set, models DeclaredRelationBound and SynthesisOutcome, and emits advisory Reports when the current complexity is worse than a lower-bound technique would allow. src/v4/std/report.dag becomes the shared advisory carrier with a closed ReportReason coproduct for the two worked advisory reasons currently implemented. The test fixture builds a nested-cardinality Node intended to have polynomial complexity, then asserts that synthesis_lens returns a non-empty report list.

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL (substrate vs implementation). Finding — substrate/lens fact fabrication. src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:221-228 applies both assess_decision_tree and assess_information_theoretic to every Node that has a complexity result, but the newly introduced substrate/lens concepts are relation-bound concepts, not implementation-only helpers. The PR therefore makes lower-bound applicability a consequence of current complexity shape instead of a declared relation fact on the Dag. Because this touches reusable .dag lens/std concepts, this is substrate-level and blocking, not implementation style.
  2. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md. Finding — P1 Modeling Faithfulness / facts flow forward. src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:130-149 manufactures DeclaredRelationBound values from only n: Node, fixed technique constants, and node_locus(node: n); then src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:221-228 runs those fabricated bounds unconditionally. A DecisionTree lower bound is only grounded when the program has declared or derived that the node is a decision-tree/comparison-style relation; InformationTheoretic likewise needs a declared relation class. As written, any polynomial node can be reported as SynthesisGapDecisionTree, even if it is not a sorting/comparison relation. That violates the invariant that constructs must ground in declared facts and that closed-system heuristics are evidence of missing upstream facts, not valid authorities. chatgpt-review-187ae55f-19d8-47…

The fix is to carry relation/technique applicability as modeled input data and have synthesis_lens consume those declared bounds, rather than deriving applicability from complexity alone.

  1. CODING.md. Compliant. The new logic is expressed as data carriers plus free functions (assess_decision_tree, assess_information_theoretic, outcome_to_reports, synthesis_lens), with no hidden state or object-style method accretion; the long parser-workaround comment at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:174-180 is a narrow external syntax constraint, not ordinary control-flow prose.
  2. TESTING.md. Finding — the worked claim does not assert the worked behavior. The test is named/scoped as a DecisionTree gap, but src/v4/test/claim/lens_synthesis/synthesis_gap_polynomial.dag:68-84 only asserts non_empty(synthesis_lens(...)) by choosing the original node versus a sentinel. That would still pass if the report reason were only SynthesisGapInformationTheoretic, if the DecisionTree reason were wrong, or if duplicate/unrelated advisory reports were emitted. Since this PR adds ReportReason and two separate assessment branches, the behavior-driven claim needs to inspect the published report carrier/reason, ideally with separate focused claims for DecisionTree and InformationTheoretic. TESTING.md requires tests to pin caller-visible behavior rather than loose implementation artifacts, and each TestClaim should make one structural claim. chatgpt-review-050165cf-8a01-44…
  3. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS. N/A — the diff does not alter a locked design doc or a locked design-decision surface directly. The semantic concern above is against the live thesis/invariant intent, not a named locked-design divergence.
  4. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT. Compliant. The old scaffold status is replaced with T-17 filled, and the new closed coproducts carry terminal/STOP-style tags rather than TODOs or temporary bridge markers. No new explicit scaffold/TODO/debt row is introduced in the diff.

2.5. Top-down PM intent review

Finding — the implementation dilutes structural proof into a generic cost-threshold advisory. The thesis frames correctness dimensions as structural facts carried by the program data model, with validation reading that structure rather than running or guessing from behavior. chatgpt-review-02d438d5-a6c5-4e…

The changed lens instead builds DeclaredRelationBound from a bare Node at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:130-149 and applies all technique probes to every complexity result at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:221-228; the test fixture likewise supplies only cardinality/complexity shape at src/v4/test/claim/lens_synthesis/synthesis_gap_polynomial.dag:55-69, not a relation-class declaration. If this lands, a worker following it faithfully would implement “polynomial cost implies DecisionTree/InformationTheoretic synthesis gap” rather than “declared relation lower-bound evidence plus current complexity yields an advisory,” which is a PM-level semantic dilution of the structural-lens direction.

3. Verdict

REQUEST_CHANGES

The PR’s shape is close, but the current lens fabricates relation-bound applicability from complexity and the only worked test does not pin the advisory reason it claims to exercise. Carry relation/technique evidence as modeled data and assert the actual ReportReason behavior before merging.

Finding 2 (codex #16948): outcome_to_reports silently dropped
SynthesisNoTechnique { diagnostic }. Add companion outcome_to_diagnostics
+ synthesis_lens_diagnostics so NoTechnique diagnostics are surfaced per
the T-17 contract ("No applicable technique ⇒ helpful Diagnostic; NEVER
a silent empty set").

Finding 1 (codex #16948): unconditional probe application needs a
DeclaredRelationClass substrate type to dispatch correctly. std/node.dag
carries no declared relation class; adding one requires a substrate PR.

Re: codex review #16948 — two findings

Finding 2 (SynthesisNoTechnique → Empty): Valid. Fixed in fff65c1. Added outcome_to_diagnostics + synthesis_lens_diagnostics(n: Node) -> List<Diagnostic> companion, which surfaces SynthesisNoTechnique { diagnostic } instead of discarding it. The T-17 contract ("No applicable technique ⇒ helpful Diagnostic; NEVER a silent empty set") is now respected through a companion function rather than overloading the List<Report> return type (those two channels are intentionally separate: advisory Report vs fail-closed Diagnostic).

Finding 1 (unconditional probe application): Architecturally valid observation. The v4 substrate (std/node.dag) carries no DeclaredRelationClass type — Node has kind: NodeKind (TypeNode/ComputationNode) and children: List<Edge>, and no declared I/O relation class field. Properly gating each probe on the declared relation class requires a substrate extension, which is a separate PR per INVARIANTS substrate-extension rule. Added a 🟡 gate tracking comment on synthesis_lens (fff65c1): // 🟡 synthesis-relation-dispatch — bind node://adhoc-synthesis-relation-class — dissolve-on-arrival: when a DeclaredRelationClass substrate type lands in std/node.dag, replace unconditional probe application with a declared-relation → technique dispatch; forbidden: inferring relation class from Node connective/behavior (DECLARED, never inferred).

Inferring the relation class from Connective/Behavior is explicitly forbidden by T-17 ("DECLARED, never inferred" — the Rice-undecidability dissolution). The current behavior is bounded: for the T-17 worked examples, the unconditional probes produce correct results (polynomial Cardinality node → DecisionTree gap; sub-linear → InformationTheoretic NoTechnique). The 🟡 gate tracks the substrate debt cleanly.

Re: codex inline findings on synthesis.dag:60 and test claim:24

Finding (synthesis.dag:60 — "v2 compile fails, imported symbols absent"): Factually incorrect. All imported symbols exist in their respective modules: complexity_lens at lens/complexity.dag:255, complexity_bound_class at :259, single_complexity_variable at :105, sized_complexity at :116, list_append at std/collection.dag:32, node_locus at std/diagnostic.dag:67. T-12 (lens/cost.dag + lens/complexity.dag) merged 2026-05-21 as PR #3452. CI confirms: run 26342945320 and 26343223503 both show ci: pass. The codex review container appears to have been using a stale snapshot predating the T-12 merge.

Finding (test claim:24 — "EqualsClaim not in std.verification"): Factually incorrect. EqualsClaim is a coproduct variant of TestClaim at std/verification.dag:152. t19_manual_claim_anchor is at :300. Both exist and the test schema is correct.

Finding (synthesis.dag:233 — unconditional probe application): Valid (per operator). Fixed in 99ba314 + 177c771: synthesis_lens and synthesis_lens_diagnostics now take an explicit declared_technique: LowerBoundTechnique parameter. The caller declares which technique applies to their node's I/O relation class; the lens dispatches only that probe. Test updated to pass declared_technique: DecisionTree.

…nomial claim

Adds reason-pinning claim that extracts the first report from synthesis_lens
and asserts its reason IS SynthesisGapDecisionTree, not just that the list
is non-empty. Addresses openai-pro Finding 4.

…ttern match

List<T> = FreeMonoid<T> is a transparent alias for fn args but the type
checker does not unfold it for match variant checks — pattern matching
List<Report> with Empty/Cons fails with "variant not found in type List".
fold_list_right takes FreeMonoid<T>, which List<T> satisfies via alias
transparency. Field access r.reason extracts ReportReason without matching
on the Report product type directly.

1. Story of the diff

This PR turns src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag from a T-17 scaffold into an advisory synthesis lens that compares a node’s current complexity result against lower-bound technique worked cases. The new path reads complexity_lens, classifies the result against hard-coded DecisionTree and InformationTheoretic bounds, returns advisory Report rows through std/report.dag, and exposes a companion diagnostic accessor for cases where the declared technique has no implemented worked example. The PR also introduces a .dag TestClaim fixture for a nested-cardinality/polynomial node that should emit a DecisionTree synthesis-gap report and pins the published ReportReason variant.

2. Invariant categories

1. LAYER MODEL — Finding

src/v4/std/report.dag and src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag are substrate/std-facing .dag model surfaces, not implementation-only Rust. The blocking issue is that the new synthesis API accepts only LowerBoundTechnique at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:236, then internally manufactures the actual relation lower bound at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:136-140 and src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:147-151. A lower bound is a declared relation fact, not something a lens can derive from “DecisionTree” or “InformationTheoretic” alone; every DecisionTree relation is forced to Θ(n log n), and every InformationTheoretic relation is forced to Θ(n), even though the caller never declared those facts. That violates the substrate rule that modeled facts ground in a declared source and live in one authoritative place. chatgpt-review-f08744e8-8379-4d…

2. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md — Finding

Modeling Faithfulness / Facts flow forward / Fail-Closed: decision_tree_declared_bound and information_theoretic_declared_bound name themselves “declared,” but the declaration is produced inside the lens from the node alone: lower_bound: sized_complexity(...) at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:136-140 and src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:147-151. The PR’s own header says the relation is “DECLARED, never inferred,” but synthesis_lens(n, declared_technique) at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:236 has no input slot for a declared relation bound or declared relation class. The correct shape is to take a DeclaredRelationBound or an equivalent relation-bound carrier as input, or to model concrete worked relation classes whose lower-bound facts are declared upstream; technique-only defaulting is a fabricated plausible proof fact.

Fail-Closed / facts flow forward: synthesis_lens_diagnostics drops an upstream complexity diagnostic: Violates { diagnostic: _ } => Empty at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:260. This is the diagnostic companion API, so erasing the diagnostic makes a complexity-analysis failure indistinguishable from “no synthesis diagnostics.” It should propagate the diagnostic as a singleton list or wrap it in a typed synthesis diagnostic, not return Empty. The fail-closed invariant explicitly requires typed diagnostics rather than plausible empty output. chatgpt-review-f08744e8-8379-4d…

3. CODING.md — Finding

src/v4/test/claim/lens_synthesis/synthesis_gap_polynomial.dag:89 records review/process history directly in the modeled .dag file: “addresses openai-pro Finding 4.” That is not a model fact, boundary invariant, or external constraint; it belongs in the PR/commit history. The parser-boundary note at src/v4/test/claim/lens_synthesis/synthesis_gap_polynomial.dag:91-92 can plausibly stay as a narrow grammar constraint, but the review-finding prose should be removed under the .dag no-prose/comment discipline. chatgpt-review-0e092a22-c898-4f…

4. TESTING.md — Finding

The PR adds nontrivial InformationTheoretic logic at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:184-213 and the new diagnostic companion at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:258-275, but the only new test file calls synthesis_lens(... declared_technique: DecisionTree) at src/v4/test/claim/lens_synthesis/synthesis_gap_polynomial.dag:70 and src/v4/test/claim/lens_synthesis/synthesis_gap_polynomial.dag:95. There is no TestClaim for InformationTheoretic gap/optimal/no-technique behavior, and no claim for synthesis_lens_diagnostics, which would have caught the diagnostic-drop path above. For this PR’s title and changed behavior, DecisionTree-only coverage is not enough; add focused .dag claims for the InformationTheoretic branch and diagnostic propagation. chatgpt-review-9ff59201-d451-4a…

5. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS — N/A

N/A — the diff does not alter a locked design document or explicitly diverge from a locked decision surface. The relevant design pressure is handled by the substrate/modeling findings above.

6. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT — Finding

The branches for AlgebraicRank, AdversaryCommunication, and ReductionConditional are explicitly temporary: the comment says “worked examples not yet implemented” at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:234-235, and each branch routes to SynthesisNoTechnique at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:243-250 and src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:265-272. That gives documentation and bounds, but not a named dissolution trigger. If these are intentional scaffolds, they need a feature:/task-backed trigger for when each worked example lands or a terminal justification that these techniques are diagnostic-only in this lens. As written, “not yet implemented” is untracked debt.

2.5. Top-down PM intent review — Finding

The PM-level intent is that correctness dimensions and user-authored lenses validate structural facts carried by the program model, not behavioral guesses or post-hoc checks. chatgpt-review-faae1b96-a7b7-45…

This PR dilutes that by turning “caller declares applicable lower-bound facts” into “caller passes a technique, and the lens fabricates the bound”: synthesis_lens takes only Node plus LowerBoundTechnique at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:236, while the bound is authored inside the lens at src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:136-140 and src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag:147-151. A worker following this API faithfully would ship lower-bound reports that are not grounded in a declared relation contract.

3. Verdict

REQUEST_CHANGES

The PR moves in the right direction by making synthesis advisory and adding .dag TestClaim coverage, but it currently fabricates relation lower-bound facts from technique names, drops upstream diagnostics in the diagnostic accessor, leaves unimplemented technique arms without a dissolution trigger, and lacks coverage for the new InformationTheoretic/diagnostic paths. These are substrate/modeling issues, not cosmetic cleanup.

…n_tree

Bootstrap type checker resolves r.reason as 'no field on FreeMonoid' when
r is a generic lambda param T in fold_list_right<T,A> even after T=Report
is established from xs: List<Report>. Fix: call assess_decision_tree +
complexity_lens directly so r binds from a concrete coproduct field
(SynthesisGap.report: Report), avoiding generic T field access entirely.

Finding 2: synthesis_lens_diagnostics now propagates Violates diagnostic
as Cons{d} rather than Empty — upstream complexity failure is observable
without a separate complexity_lens call.

Finding 3: remove review-process note from test comment (belongs in git log).

Finding 4: add InformationTheoretic gap claim (O(n^2)>Ω(n) → non-empty IT
report, reason pinned to SynthesisGapInformationTheoretic via assess_information_theoretic)
and AlgebraicRank SynthesisNoTechnique diagnostic claim (synthesis_lens_diagnostics
coverage).

Finding 6: replace "not yet implemented" note on AlgebraicRank/AdversaryCommunication/
ReductionConditional stubs with terminal justification — these route through the honest
diagnostic channel by design; new worked examples require STOP-and-escalate gate.

Addressing the openai-pro review on SHA 320127e:

Findings 2, 3, 4, 6 — accepted, fixed in 139cf99 (pushed on top of 885e8c4)

  • F2 (diagnostic drop): synthesis_lens_diagnostics now propagates Violates { diagnostic: d } => Cons { head: d, tail: Empty } — upstream complexity failure is no longer indistinguishable from "no synthesis diagnostics."
  • F3 (process comment): "addresses openai-pro Finding 4" removed from test file; belongs in git log, not model.
  • F4 (missing coverage): Added synthesis_gap_information_theoretic.dag (IT gap claim + reason-pinned to SynthesisGapInformationTheoretic via assess_information_theoretic) and synthesis_no_technique_diagnostic.dag (AlgebraicRank → SynthesisNoTechnique diagnostic via synthesis_lens_diagnostics).
  • F6 (untracked debt): The three stub arms (AlgebraicRank/AdversaryCommunication/ReductionConditional) now carry a terminal justification: these route through the honest diagnostic channel by design; adding a 4th worked-example technique requires a new LowerBoundTechnique variant, which is STOP-and-escalate-gated.

Findings 1 and 2.5 — rebut

The "fabricated bounds" reading misreads the C2 operator-ratified design (2026-05-15). The synthesis.dag header is explicit: each technique is "a GENERAL algebraic property over a relation CLASS, encoded ONCE. This is NOT a (naive→better) rule library... Adding the Nth algorithm adds ZERO entries; the decision-tree theorem already covers every comparison-decided relation."

DecisionTree → Ω(n log n) is Shannon's entropy lower bound — a proven mathematical theorem about every comparison-based decision procedure. InformationTheoretic → Ω(n) is the trivial information-theoretic floor for any procedure that reads its entire input. These are not manufactured facts; they are universal theorems that the technique name identifies. The caller declaring DecisionTree IS declaring "this relation is comparison-decided and the Shannon bound applies." The bound follows from the theorem, not from the node alone.

The alternative the review proposes — requiring callers to also supply the lower bound explicitly — would re-open the Rice-undecidability path (caller now "declares" a lower bound that could be wrong, with no way to verify it is sound for the technique). The current design avoids this: each technique is a class with a known universal bound; the bound is encoded once and is not a caller input.

BLOCKING (1)

Root Cause

  • src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag Strict lower-bound comparison is represented by an untyped Bool predicate call instead of a strict-dominance carrier/query → add or consume an AsymptoticStrictDominance-style relation and use it for both worked lower-bound checks.

⚠️ The DecisionTree worked case can emit a false advisory gap for an optimal realization.

Comment thread src/v4/lens/synthesis.dag

// DecisionTree: realization > Θ(n log n) → gap (asymptotic_class_dominates is strict for ClassLinearithmic).

BLOCKING: DecisionTree uses reflexive asymptotic_class_dominates as a strict-greater test, so an exactly Θ(n log n) realization is reported as a SynthesisGap, violating P1 modeling faithfulness for the lower-bound comparison.

Verified against src/v4/lens/cost.dag. The function is NOT reflexive for ClassLinearithmic:

ClassLinearithmic =>
  match b {
    ClassConstant => true
    ClassLog => true
    ClassLinear => true
    ClassPolyLog { exponent: _ } => true
    _ => false          // ← ClassLinearithmic hits this; no self-entry
  }

asymptotic_class_dominates(ClassLinearithmic, ClassLinearithmic) = false.

Trace for an optimal (Θ(n log n)) realization at line 157:

  • complexity_bound_class(realization) = ClassLinearithmic
  • asymptotic_class_dominates(ClassLinearithmic, ClassLinearithmic) = false
  • → else branch → SynthesisOptimal

No false gap. The comment on line 155 documents this: "asymptotic_class_dominates is strict for ClassLinearithmic". The function happens to be reflexive for ClassLinear (hence the double-dominance workaround in assess_information_theoretic), but ClassLinearithmic has no self-entry in its match arm — it falls to _ => false.

Rebuttal — codex review SHA `139cf998` blocking finding

Finding: "The DecisionTree worked case can emit a false advisory gap for an optimal realization."

This is factually incorrect. Tracing asymptotic_class_dominates in src/v4/lens/cost.dag:

ClassLinearithmic =>
  match b {
    ClassConstant => true
    ClassLog => true
    ClassLinear => true
    ClassPolyLog { exponent: _ } => true
    _ => false          // ← ClassLinearithmic hits this arm
  }

asymptotic_class_dominates(ClassLinearithmic, ClassLinearithmic) = false.

Consequence in assess_decision_tree:

  • Realization = ClassLinearithmic (== lower bound, optimal): dominates(ClassLinearithmic, ClassLinearithmic) = false → SynthesisOptimal. No false gap.
  • Realization = ClassPolynomial (> lower bound): dominates(ClassPolynomial, ClassLinearithmic) = true (cost.dag:459) → SynthesisGap. Correct gap.

The synthesis.dag comment on line 155 documents this property explicitly: "asymptotic_class_dominates is strict for ClassLinearithmic".

The style suggestion ("add AsymptoticStrictDominance carrier") is out of scope for T-17 — it would be a new type, new functions, and changes to cost.dag and synthesis.dag. The existing Bool-predicate design is consistent with every other predicate in the codebase (all predicates return Bool; no carrier-typed predicate exists anywhere). The function already has correct strict semantics for the one case that matters here.

No code change warranted. The code is correct; the finding rests on a mistaken assumption about the dominates function's reflexivity for ClassLinearithmic.

T-17 merge-readiness summary (nimble-koi-111)

SHA 139cf9983 — all technical criteria met:

Criterion Status
CI ✅ all pass (ci, v4, affected, fmt)
Mergeable ✅ MERGEABLE
RC on HEAD ✅ none
Checks ✅ passing
Approvals ⏳ 0/2 — awaiting reviews

Review infrastructure status: Claude/cursor/codex scheduled reviews all fail with MODULE_NOT_FOUND on the Linux host (missing /Users/briansrls/ctrl/scripts/api-reviewer/review-with-cli.mjs). Only openai-pro posts successfully, and it appears to require manual trigger from the Mac.

Outstanding findings: The two codex BLOCKING findings on 139cf998 (claiming a false gap for optimal Θ(n log n) realizations) were rebutted inline at synthesis.dag:157 and in the PR thread. Root cause: asymptotic_class_dominates(ClassLinearithmic, ClassLinearithmic) = false via _ => false catch-all in cost.dag:470 — the function is strict for ClassLinearithmic, no false gap is possible.

Requesting: manual openai-pro trigger on SHA 139cf9983 to unblock the 2-approval requirement.
