# R3-close interrogation — validation audit (2026-05-13)

## Verdict

**INTERROGATION NOT ANSWERED.** R3 close is not validatable through this sheet at HEAD.

## Inventory at HEAD (`docs/r3-close-interrogation.md` @ 13533fd22b post-merge of #2839)

- Doc status: **v1, Director ratification pending** (header line 3; §12).
- Probe checkboxes total: **152**
- Probes marked answered (`- [x]`): **0**
- Probes outstanding (`- [ ]`): **152** (100%)
- Director-tier meta-questions outstanding: **Q1–Q6** (§11) — none ratified.

### Per-section probe outstanding tally

| Section | Promise | Outstanding probes |
|---|---|---|
| §1.1 | Complexity | 9 |
| §1.2 | Cost (Tier 1 textbook coverage per gate #105) | 15 |
| §1.3 | Parallelism | 4 |
| §1.4 | Effect enumeration | 4 |
| §1.5 | User-defined dimensions (incl. Tier 2 escape-hatch) | 7 |
| §2.1 | Pure Bootstrap (PB-0) | 5 |
| §2.2 | Closed system / no escape hatches | 5 |
| §2.3 | Single authority / cost-of-change = 1 | 5 |
| §2.4 | Fail-closed discipline | 4 |
| §2.5 | Impossible bugs by construction (META-PROMISE) | 36 |
| §3.1 | Omni-emission (Rust / Python / Go) | 4 |
| §3.2 | Workflow-as-data | 5 |
| §3.3 | Tests-as-data | 4 |
| §4.1 | Lens self-application | 4 |
| §4.2 | Self-host fixed-point | 4 |
| §5.1 | 5 substrate-gap classes closed | 6 |
| §5.2 | v2 fully retired | 3 |
| §5.3 | BridgeLedgerZero | 3 |
| §6 | "Show the correct code" diagnostics | 4 |
| §7 | Cross-doc ledger coherence | 9 |
| §8 | Per-gate predicate execution at close | 4 |
| §10 | Close ceremony | 8 |

Total: 152 outstanding probes across 22 promise/ceremony sections.

**Tally provenance**: counts produced via `awk` grouping `- [ ]` lines under their
nearest preceding `## §` or `### §` heading. Verified against `grep -c '^- \[ \]'`
= 152 and `grep -c '^- \[x\]'` = 0.

## Partial work already on-ledger (NOT probe-disposition advancement)

The following have landed in-doc but do **not** count as probe answers under §0's
4-receipt bar (verbatim promise + delivery + concrete example + falsification probe):

- **§1.2 Cost** — scope refinement landed (commit 938f334bef): Tier 1 textbook coverage
bound per gate #105 + Director msg_ad5e934d. Probe checkboxes remain empty.
- **§3.1 Omni-emission** — "Findings at HEAD" inline note landed (commit 7cd49195f7,
refined 9613b9e4be + 1f56e6544c) flagging integration-binary CI hot-fix skip and
open R3 close-shape question (a)/(b1)/(b2)/(b3). Probe checkboxes remain empty;
PM-surfaced close-shape question (lines 315–317 at HEAD post-#2839) is **unrouted**.

These are **scoping refinements**, not interrogation execution. The §0 disposition
vocabulary (PROVEN / WEAK-EVIDENCE / GAP / R4-DEFERRED / NOT-PROMISED) has not been
applied to any §1–§6 probe.

## Structural blockers to R3 close via this sheet

1. **Director ratification of Q1–Q6 not recorded.** §11 enumerates 6 open meta-policy
questions (probe-count threshold, falsification-probe scope, WEAK-EVIDENCE
threshold, external-reviewer requirement, evidence-preservation shape, diagnostic
"show correct code" PROVEN bar). Until ratified, the close criteria are
underspecified — probe dispositions can't be authoritatively assigned.

2. **No §3.1 close-shape disposition.** PM-surfaced open question (lines 315–317 at HEAD post-#2839): the omni
promise's L4 runtime-parity evidence is currently runnable locally but
HOT-FIX-skipped in CI (`ci.yml:478-501`). Three candidate close-shapes (b1 restore
in-CI execution / b2 acceptance of local + integration-binary-build evidence /
b3 new §1.8 gate). No interpretation ratified.

3. **Probe execution has not begun.** Zero probes are dispositioned. §10 requires
"every §1-§8 item PROVEN or R4-DEFERRED with operator acceptance" and "zero GAP,
zero WEAK-EVIDENCE."

4. **§8 close-time predicate-execution log absent.** §8 requires
`docs/audit/r3-close-predicate-execution-YYYY-MM-DD.md` capturing per-gate
predicate output within 24h of close. No such artifact exists at HEAD.

5. **§10 close-audit doc absent.** §10 final item requires
`docs/audit/r3-close-YYYY-MM-DD.md` with per-gate predicate output + every probe's
disposition with evidence link. Not authored.

## What "answering" requires (per §0 + §10)

For each probe, the close-eligible bar is:

1. Verbatim promise quote with citation
2. Delivery citation (code / test / demo)
3. Reproducible concrete example (real input → real output)
4. Falsification probe attempted, survival recorded

Disposition then assigned from §0 vocabulary. Operator acceptance recorded for any
R4-DEFERRED.

## Recommended sequencing (PM-tier, surfaced for Director routing)

1. **Q1–Q6 ratification** (Director) — unblocks disposition-assignment semantics.
2. **§3.1 close-shape ratification** (operator) — picks (b1)/(b2)/(b3).
3. **§7 structural ledger-coherence audit** — 9 probes are mechanical (count parity
+ grep checks); can be dispatched as a leaf task pre-§1–§6 sweep.
4. **§8 per-gate predicate-execution sweep** — produces
`docs/audit/r3-close-predicate-execution-YYYY-MM-DD.md` artifact.
5. **§1–§6 promise-probe sweep** — dispatchable per section once Q1–Q6 ratified;
§1.2 + §3.1 already have scope-refinement scaffolding landed.
6. **§10 close ceremony** — assembles aggregate audit artifact + sign-offs.

## Closeout-discipline note

Per operator directive 2026-05-13 (closeout discipline), this validation does NOT
mark the interrogation as advanced. It records the structural state so subsequent
session work isn't blocked on the "are we close-ready?" question — answer is **no,
not via this sheet at HEAD**, and the listed sequencing names the load-bearing
steps to flip that.
