Wire RecursionPattern + remove complexity budget guard - #228

Three decidability improvements to the complexity engine: 1. RecursionPattern classification: get_or_compute_summary now detects self-recursion via the placeholder mechanism, classifies as LinearRecursion (1 self-call) or DivideAndConquer (>1 self-calls), and produces bounded CostSum instead of CostUnknown. 2. Body budget removal: the 500-node estimate_expr_size guard produced false CostUnknown violations on infer_expr and cost_of_expr (the two largest and most important functions). The caching/placeholder mechanism already prevents exponential analysis, and the decidability invariant guarantees termination. Ratchet: 2 → 0. 3. ROADMAP updates: iteration primitive audit complete (all bounded), trace_pop_frame resolved as dead code (Gap #3: 4-layer analysis of dead code detection, reachability-gated analysis, persistent data structures). Restore
ensure before leaving content_upsert in place
This change comments out the ensure pattern, but content_upsert in the same module still calls ensure(...) (dsl/std/patterns.dag:171), so any compile that includes std.patterns will now fail with an unresolved symbol instead of producing a reusable std pattern library. If generics must be deferred, content_upsert needs a non-generic replacement path in the same commit.

Reintroduce
local_auth or remove the LocalDev branch
The local_auth function was fully commented out, but acquire_subject_token still dispatches LocalDev => local_auth() (dsl/gunbc/auth/patterns.dag:36), which leaves the module with an undefined function reference. In practice, compiling this auth module now breaks before runtime branch selection, so LocalDev workflows cannot build.

Model divide-and-conquer recursion with branching growth
For DivideAndConquer, the new bound computes Σ_depth (k * per_iter) after replacing recursive calls with zero, which scales only with depth and ignores that recursive call count grows by k^depth. For functions with multiple self-calls per frame (e.g., Fibonacci-style recursion), this underestimates work and can label a non-conservative bound as Conservative, hiding expensive recursion in complexity reports.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
1. Comment out content_upsert (depends on deferred ensure<> generics) 2. Comment out LocalDev branch in acquire_subject_token (depends on deferred local_auth which needs unsupported parser features) 3. Fix DivideAndConquer cost model: CostExpr can't express k^depth, so branching recursion now reports CostUnknown instead of an incorrect underestimate. In practice, .dag multi-self-calls occur inside fold bodies (tree walks) which are already bounded by the fold's CostSum. Ratchet restored to 2 pending calibration. Add enrich_kernel_type() that builds Conj product nodes with algebraic fields for Int (OrderedRing: add, mul, negate, zero, one, compare), Float (Field: + reciprocal), Bool (BooleanAlgebra: meet, join, complement, top, bottom), and String (FreeMonoid: concat, length, chars, split, join, contains, starts_with, ends_with, trim, etc.). The enriched nodes are NOT injected into type bindings (that breaks downstream — emitter/access checker conflate type shape with operation support). Instead, lookup_structural_method checks the algebra registry as a side table when the receiver type doesn't have structural children. Key insight: "what operations does this type support" is separate from "what is this type's shape in the graph." The algebra registry provides the former; the type binding provides the latter. Tier 0 structural method resolution now works for kernel scalars. The stage0 resolve_known_method_node previously had no Tier 0 at all — it jumped straight from service to intrinsic string matching. Now it checks structural fields first. L1 ratchet: 51 → 59 (enrich_kernel_type adds name checks; these are the deletion target when the algebra becomes import-driven via FF-9). Compiles the same .dag source twice via the Dag backend (JSON artifact) and asserts the resulting typed graphs are structurally identical after normalizing HashMap iteration order in string arrays. Tests: types (coproduct + product), functions (binary ops, string concat, record literals), and verifies the artifact has correct module structure. This is the Phase 0 smoke test for parse-emit symmetry — validates compiler determinism and serialization stability. A full source-level round-trip (parse→emit .dag source→reparse) is tracked as future work. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Create dsl/extdeps/languages/rust/syntax.dag with: - 9 item forms (fn, struct, enum, type, trait, impl, const, static, mod) - 14 operators with Pratt binding powers - 2 keyword literals (true, false) - 36 reserved words This is instance #2 of SyntaxSpec, proving the abstraction is real: the parser can be driven by non-.dag spec data. The .dag spec has 9 item forms with service/resource/pattern/data kinds; the Rust spec has 9 with struct/enum/trait/impl/const/mod kinds. Adds source_audit::second_syntax_spec_exists test verifying the file exists and declares the expected structure. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
- dsl/std/syntax.dag: new file defining BinOp, LiteralKind, BodyKind, ItemForm, OperatorSpec, SyntaxSpec as domain-level types independent of compiler internals - dag/syntax.dag, rust/syntax.dag: import from std.syntax instead of v2.compiler.languages and v2.std.core - std/patterns.dag: add concrete content_upsert fn (non-generic replacement for the pattern<T> version) Result: 0 parse errors, 0 import errors across all 76 dsl/ files. Compiler reaches inference/emit phase on the full module graph. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Collection types (List, Map, Set) now have algebraic fields in the algebra registry: FreeMonoid fields for List/Set (map, filter, fold, count, first, last, etc.) and PartialFunction fields for Map (get, insert, merge, keys, values, has, etc.). Tier 0 structural lookup now resolves methods for ALL types — the is_collection guard that skipped Tier 0 for collections is removed. Emit-prep reclassification: when Tier 0 finds a method, it checks intrinsic_method_index() and runtime_bridge_method_index() to tag with the correct MethodSemantics (IntrinsicMethodSemantics or RuntimeBridgeSemantics) that emitters need for target-specific rendering. The existing type inference functions handle polymorphic return types. refine_collection_result_type further specializes map/flat_map/fold at call sites. The 48 string branches in classify_reconciled_intrinsic_method and classify_runtime_bridge_method are now dead code — Tier 0 catches all methods before they're reached. Deletion in next commit. L1 ratchet: 59 → 64 (collection name checks in enrich_kernel_type). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
classify_reconciled_intrinsic_method (20 if-else branches) and
classify_runtime_bridge_method (28 if-else branches) are now dead
code — Tier 0 structural lookup via the algebra registry resolves
all methods before the string classification fallback is reached.
The resolution path is now:
Tier 0: lookup_structural_method (algebra registry) → emit-prep
reclassification via intrinsic_method_index/runtime_bridge_method_index
Tier 1: service method lookup
Fallback: method not found
The intrinsic/bridge INDEX maps (O(1) HashMap lookup) are retained
for emit-prep reclassification. The if-else CLASSIFICATION functions
are deleted. Per INVARIANTS.md Root Cause B: "Closed Sets Dispatched
as Strings" — the string dispatch is replaced by structural field
existence + map-based reclassification.

…ons) These functions computed return types for intrinsic and bridge methods via enum match arms — a parallel implementation of what the algebra registry's field return types already provide. Replaced by substitute_algebra_result which maps algebra field return types to concrete types: - self_type → receiver_type (preserves element children) - Optional(bare) → Optional(elem) from receiver's element type - fold → fold_accumulator_type from call site - everything else → pass through (already concrete) refine_collection_result_type still handles the 4 polymorphic cases (map, flat_map, fold, list_push) where the callback return type determines the result. Net: -75 lines of enum-dispatched type inference. The algebra registry is now the single authority for both method existence AND return types. …ounds The 0-diagnostic state was achieved via DSL workarounds, not compiler fixes. …ntity Remove the CollectionKind enum (6 variants), the collection_kind field from Node, and all 184 sites across 17 .dag files + 8 stage0 .rs files that referenced them. The compiler no longer encodes collection type identity in the IR. Instead, collection-ness is derived structurally after resolution: containers are the only type nodes with children > 0 and no connective (products have Conj, coproducts have Disj, callables use params field, tuples have Conj). Three new structural predicates replace all enum matching: node_is_collection, node_is_keyed_collection (2 children), node_is_element_collection (1 child). A container_types data list in 00_core.dag (["List", "Set", "NonEmptyList", "NonEmptySet", "Map"]) controls which parameterized types stay unexpanded during resolution — adding a container type is one data line, zero compiler code changes. Deleted: CollectionKind enum, collection_kind_for_name(), is_container_name(), non_empty_container_kind(). Added non_empty_* entries to Python/Go container template maps for direct to_snake template lookup. Net: -501 lines, +306 lines across 25 files. 153 tests pass. Three themes all rooted in the same cause — compiler encodes knowledge as code branches instead of reading data: A. Type/method dispatch by string comparison (~177 sites) B. Emission hardcodes target syntax instead of reading LanguageSpec (~57 sites) C. Testgen doesn't test compiler; Go/Python are stubs Includes fix directions for each theme. All trace back to the project thesis inversion: dumb facts, smart compiler (should be the opposite). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
~362 hardcoded name-based branches means every new type, method, or language target requires editing compiler source. This blocks all extensibility work and must be resolved before diagnostic quality. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
