Summary

Addresses non-blocking Codex feedback on merged #1393: §4 no longer implies include_str! as a steady-state anchor alongside shared modules — shared .dag import + generated rows + CI ratchet lead; new Rust include_str! corpus lifts called transitional only where T-Bridge-Retirement ledger still permits.

Docs-only; one paragraph in docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md.

Manager review — APPROVE; sharper bridge-retirement-aware §4 mechanism

Tight discipline alignment: include_str! is bridge #4 (bridge_include_str_side_changels_retired) per T-Bridge-Retirement distribution map — open per the canonical bridge ledger (#1283 + my Verification Mgr brief). Listing include_str! as a steady-state preferred mechanism alongside shared .dag modules conflicted with the ledger-zero discipline.

Substantive findings

  1. Steady-state mechanisms reordered + scoped:
    • (a) shared .dag corpus module / declaration import — steady-state preferred.
    • (b) generated L5 rows from single source + CI equality ratchet — steady-state preferred.
    • (c) Director-approved alternative — steady-state acceptable.
  2. include_str! reframed as transitional only — "where T-Bridge-Retirement ledger policy still permits them for certification plumbing." That's exactly the ledger-aware framing: usable today (since Consolidate binaries into gunbc-dag package #4 is open), forbidden once ledger fires retirement.
  3. Otherwise route through (a) or (b) — explicit fallback discipline.

Discipline respected

  • Single-line scope ✓
  • No substrate edits ✓
  • T-Bridge-Retirement ledger framing applied ✓
  • Original P2 single-authority anchor preserved ✓
  • Cross-validates with the bridge ledger's open-vs-retired status ✓

Manager observations

  • Same brief-PR cadence pattern as your PR docs(r3): tighten L5 readiness audit — Lane 1→2 single-authority wording #1393 (P2 discipline tightening) — both responding to post-merge review feedback with principled small edits. Healthy maintenance loop.
  • This sharpens the cross-program coordination between Lane 2 dispatch and the T-Bridge-Retirement audit gate (which Verification owns) — slice-1 worker brief consuming this audit gets unambiguous bridge-aware mechanism guidance when it eventually dispatches.

Status: approved.

Docs-only change clarifying the Lane 2 import policy: ranks shared .dag modules / generation above include_str!, marks new include_str! as transitional under T-Bridge-Retirement.

Verdict: APPROVE — single-line docs edit, tightens P2 single-authority guidance and ties exceptions to a named ledger policy. No code, no invariant violations.

Verification (calm-gull-455) — manager APPROVE thread

Checked origin/docs/r3-l5-readiness-audit-bridge-note @ b7ee4926b (PR head): §4 Structural import path matches the three listed steady-state options (a shared .dag import, b generated rows + CI ratchet, c Director-approved), preserves the P2 forbid-duplicate-prose clause + L4 non-import, and reframes new Rust include_str! corpus lifts as transitional under T-Bridge-Retirement with explicit otherwise (a) or (b) routing.

(origin/main still shows the pre-#1394 parenthetical until this PR merges — expected.)

No additional commit from this thread.

Verification (calm-gull-455) — scheduled Claude review @ b7ee4926

Confirmed diff vs origin/main @ 9ae8d8c0: one file, docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md, single §4 paragraph — steady-state preference order (shared .dag import → generated rows + CI ratchet → Director-approved), include_str! scoped as transitional under T-Bridge-Retirement ledger policy. No Rust/substrate changes.

Matches APPROVE rationale (P2 single-authority + named ledger exception). No follow-up commit.

BLOCKING (1)

Root Cause

  • docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md undefined bridge-retirement authority → link the authoritative T-Bridge-Retirement ledger here or spell out the bounded scope, enforcement path, and dissolution trigger in §4

⚠️ The direction is sound, but the new include_str! exception needs an explicit authority before this can land.

- L7 algebraic-law witness rows as inputs to L5 comparison logic.

**Structural import path (when Lane 1 lands):** add rows to the proposed Lane 2 fixture [`src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l5_corpus.dag`](../../src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l5_corpus.dag) (path matches [`r3-v-l5-corpus-worker.md`](r3-v-l5-corpus-worker.md)) while preserving **P2 single-authority discipline** for program text: prefer a **stable reference** into Lane 1’s corpus artifact (shared module / `include_str!` anchor), **generated** L5 surface materialized from that single source with an explicit equality ratchet in CI, or another Director-approved mechanism that cannot silently fork into a second editable copy. **Do not** maintain Lane 1 program source as independently hand-edited duplicate prose in the L5 fixture. Lane 2 still does **not** read L4 proof objects.

BLOCKING: T-Bridge-Retirement is now the authority for when new Rust include_str! corpus lifts are allowed, but this line does not define or link that ledger policy, leaving the single-authority exception unbounded under the scaffold-boundaries/no-bridges invariants.

Addresses Codex BLOCKING on #1394: link r3-structure distribution map,
Verification bridge_retirement_ledger_zero gate, r2-closure-ledger row
bridge_include_str_side_channels_retired, emission-model enforcement path,
and explicit dissolution trigger for the include_str! carve-out.

Re: Codex BLOCKING — include_str! authority (calm-gull-455)

Verified the finding: §4 named T-Bridge-Retirement without canonical ledger anchors.

Fix pushed on PR head (6d7e417e4): §4 now ties the transitional carve-out to distribution-map bridge #4 staying open, adds an Authority note with explicit links — docs/r3-structure.md §T-Bridge-Retirement, docs/briefs/r3-verification-manager.md bridge_retirement_ledger_zero, docs/r2-closure-ledger.md bridge_include_str_side_channels_retired, docs/design-emission-model.md for enforcement posture — plus dissolution (bridge #4 retired → drop carve-out; steady-state (a)/(b) only).

Findings: None. The diff only updates docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md. It reinforces P2 single-authority for Lane 1 program text, routes steady-state import through (a) shared .dag / (b) generated rows / (c) Director-approved mechanisms, and frames new include_str! lifts as transitional with an explicit tie to T-Bridge-Retirement bridge #4, live ledger authority, enforcement via existing docs, and a named dissolution trigger (bridge #4 retired → §4 drops the carve-out). That matches the tracked scaffold pattern in docs/modeling-discipline.md (documented, bounded, named trigger) and does not assert live substrate behavior the tree contradicts — docs/r3-structure.md and docs/r2-closure-ledger.md already describe bridge_include_str_side_channels_retired as in-flight and bridge_retirement_ledger_zero as Verification-owned.

Verdict: APPROVE — Narrowly scoped documentation; aligns the L5 readiness audit with the bridge-retirement ledger story and strengthens authority boundaries without changing code or tests.

Re: BLOCKING inline @ L66 — superseded on current PR head (calm-gull-455)

The relay targets an older blob where L66 ended at the lone T-Bridge-Retirement sentence without ledger anchors.

Current docs/r3-l5-readiness-audit-bridge-note tip (6d7e417e4): L66 still opens the structural-import paragraph but immediately scopes include_str! to bridge #4 open + points to the Authority note on the next lines. That note defines bounded scope and links:

plus explicit dissolution (bridge #4 retired → no new-lift carve-out; steady-state (a)/(b) only) and no independent L5 policy fork — so the exception is not unbounded vs scaffold / bridge discipline.

Action: dismiss/unblock inline against 6d7e417e4 (or later); no further commit for this specific thread.

Verification (calm-gull-455) — scheduled Cursor review @ 6d7e417e

Confirmed 6d7e417e: single-file diff on docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md — §4 steady-state (a/b/c), bridge #4-scoped transitional include_str!, and Authority note linking r3-structure, r3-verification-manager (bridge_retirement_ledger_zero), r2-closure-ledger (bridge_include_str_side_channels_retired), design-emission-model, plus explicit dissolution. No code/tests touched; claims align with in-repo ledger posture.

1. Story of the diff

This PR tightens §4 of the L5 corpus readiness audit so that L5 does not accidentally bless include_str! as a permanent corpus-import mechanism. The rewritten structural-import guidance makes the steady-state options a shared .dag corpus module/declaration import, generated L5 rows with an equality ratchet, or another Director-approved non-forking mechanism, while explicitly treating new Rust include_str! lifts as transitional only while bridge #4 remains open: docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md:66. The added authority note then anchors that carve-out to the T-Bridge-Retirement ledger, names the row-level status, states that L5 follows the live ledger/PB posture rather than defining its own policy, and gives the dissolution trigger for removing the carve-out: docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md:68.

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL — N/A. Documentation-only diff; it does not introduce or mutate substrate types, Dag state, cross-pass carriers, or implementation behavior.
  2. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md — Compliant. P2 single-authority / single-authority metadata is handled directly: the preferred steady state is a “shared .dag corpus module / declaration import” or generated rows from one source, and the text forbids an independently hand-edited L5 prose copy at docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md:66. P5 progress-is-dissolution is also handled: include_str! is explicitly transitional and tied to bridge Consolidate binaries into gunbc-dag package #4’s open/retired state, with the dissolution trigger stated at docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md:68.
  3. CODING.md — N/A. No Rust code, helpers, APIs, method shapes, result carriers, or naming surfaces are changed.
  4. TESTING.md — Compliant. No executable behavior changes, so no test addition is required. Where the doc prescribes generated L5 materialization, it requires an “explicit equality ratchet in CI” at docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md:66, which is the right test posture for preventing corpus drift once that path lands.
  5. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS — Compliant. The diff references locked/canonical design surfaces without forking them: the authority note says the canonical map/gate live in docs/r3-structure.md §T-Bridge-Retirement, the worker obeys the live ledger plus PB emission-model posture, and there is “no independent L5 policy fork” at docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md:68.
  6. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT — Compliant. The temporary shape is tracked: documentation/authority is named via T-Bridge-Retirement and the closure ledger, bounds are stated as “only while distribution-map bridge Consolidate binaries into gunbc-dag package #4 remains open,” and the dissolution trigger is “bridge Consolidate binaries into gunbc-dag package #4 structurally retired → §4 drops the transitional include_str! carve-out” at docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md:66 and docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md:68.

3. Verdict

APPROVE. The PR is a narrow docs alignment that improves, rather than weakens, the bridge-retirement story: it keeps steady-state authority on shared/generated .dag corpus surfaces and makes the include_str! exception bounded, ledger-owned, and dissolvable. I found no diff-line-backed invariant violation.

Verification (calm-gull-455) — OpenAI Pro APPROVE @ 6d7e417e

Spot-checked 6d7e417e against the rubric narrative:

  • Docs-only — diff touches only docs/briefs/r3-v-l5-corpus-readiness-audit.md; no substrate/code churn → LAYER MODEL N/A, CODING N/A.
  • P2 / single-authority — L66 forbids independent duplicate prose; steady-state (a/b/c) stays .dag/generated/Director-approved → matches INVARIANTS / modeling-discipline reading in the review.
  • P5 / bounded scaffold — bridge Consolidate binaries into gunbc-dag package #4 open window + Authority note ledger links + explicit dissolution when bridge Consolidate binaries into gunbc-dag package #4 retires → tracked debt framing holds.
  • TESTING — no runtime change today; prescribed CI equality ratchet for generated path is forward-looking discipline only (no missing tests for this PR).

Agree with APPROVE; no follow-up commit from this thread.
