contains a bunch of useful fixes. also needed because i want to bring the metrictank dep in tsdb-gw to the latest version without downgrading jaeger there. note: slight downgrade for github.com/opentracing/opentracing-go because jaeger-client-go stipulates using the latest release, so we can no longer use master.
