closing tabs requires double-click in some cases

I am on Linux/AwesomeWM with stock ghostty config.
When closing the last (rightmost tab) it all works as expected.
However, when closing tabs "in the middle", I have to click two times (or move the mouse a bit in between) because the x does not get highlighted after the previous tab is closed and the next one slides into its place. So the click is not "accepted". Only after the first click, the x gets highlighted and the next one closes the tab. Same effect can be achieved by moving the mouse by a pixel. I wonder if this is a GTK issue or the way ghostty uses GTK. Maybe we need to open the issue upstream?
I recorded a 40s screencast to better show what I am trying to explain above.
You can spot I need to click two times from around second 30. Interestingly, the first and last tab closed as expected (i.e. with one click).

Looks like you need to select the tab then close it, I cant reproduce this on my end in Wayland + Sway ghostty 1.1.2

GTK has a bit of jank on X11, so that's maybe why. Either way it's an upstream issue as we don't do anything special here
