As discussed this morning, it might be feasible to do the following:
analyze sourceDoc content: character count for any appearing @new first part (writing hand)
infer from this whether these hands are sole (only one hand), major (say, more than 50%) or minor (less than 50%) in the sense of the TEI Guidelines
generate msDesc/physDesc/handDesc/handNote (BTW, this would be a considerable change to our TEI files, since most of the sourceDesc is stored in non-TEI XML until now)
