All color-maps in SDR Angel use a limited subset of the RGB range, which is reasonable to make the colors discernible. My approach is to use a spiral on the outside of the RGB color space to maximize the visual difference with the addition of some extra gray area and B&W.
I would like to introduce the color-map that uses all colors (additive and subtractive primary).
All Colors Are Beautiful
The lower gray area makes small signal easy to spot, while the upper area is still well discernible.
The top part of the color map is not used, I'm currently looking into fixing it. Also I may come around with a patch that increases the number of color steps, to decrees the color banding which is decreasing the quality of this color map.
