MarkLogic Client for Vert.X

A Vert.x client allowing applications to interact with a Marklogic server

Getting Started

Maven

Add the following dependency to your maven projeect

<dependencies>
  <dependency>
    <groupId>org.etourdot.vertx</groupId>
    <artifactId>vertx-marklogic-client</artifactId>
    <version>$version</version>
  </dependency>
</dependencies>

Gradle

Add the following dependency to your gradle project

dependencies {
  compile("org.etourdot.vertx:vertx-marklogic-client:$version")
}

Create a client

You can create a CRUD client instance as follows:

MarkLogicClient client = MarkLogicClient.create(vertx, config);

Management operations are separate from CRUD operations. You can create a management client instance as follows:

MarkLogicManagement management = MarkLogicManagement.create(vertx, config);

CRUD Operations

Following are some examples of the operations supported by MarkLogicClient. Consult javadoc/documentation for more details.

Insert one document

Will insert a document into Marklogic database.

// Document content in json
JsonObject documentContent = new JsonObject().put("title", "The Hobbit");
// Fix uri for document 1
Document document = Document.create().uri("/json/documents/exemple1.json").content(documentContent);
// And save it
markLogicClient.save(document.toJson(), res -> {
  if (res.succeeded()) {
    System.out.println("Saved book with id " + res.result().getString(0));
  } else {
    res.cause().printStackTrace();
  }
});

Insert multiple documents

Will insert somes documents into Marklogic database in one call.

Of course Marklogic Vert.X client doesn’t call multiple save command, it calls multipart marklogic rest command.

// Document content in json
JsonObject documentContent1 = new JsonObject().put("title", "The Hobbit");
JsonObject documentContent2 = new JsonObject().put("title", "The Two Towers");
// Fix uri for document 1
Document document1 = Document.create().uri("/json/documents/exemple1.json").content(documentContent1);
// Uri will be created by Marklogic for document 2, so fix directory and extension only
Document document2 = Document.create().directory("/json/documents/").extension(".json")
  .content(documentContent2);
// Populate documents
Documents documents = Documents.create().addDocuments(document1, document2);
// And save them
markLogicClient.save(documents.toJson(), res -> {
  if (res.succeeded()) {
    System.out.println("Saved book with id " + res.result().getString(0));
    System.out.println("Saved book with id " + res.result().getString(1));
  } else {
    res.cause().printStackTrace();
  }
});

Read a document

Will read a document from the database.

markLogicClient.read("/json/documents/exemple1.json", res -> {
  if (res.succeeded()) {
    System.out.println("Document: " + res.result());
  } else {
    res.cause().printStackTrace();
  }
});

Read some documents

Will read some documents from the database.

String[] uris = new String[] {
  "/json/documents/exemple1.json",
  "/json/documents/exemple2.json"};
markLogicClient.readMany(new JsonArray(Arrays.asList(uris)), res -> {
  if (res.succeeded()) {
    JsonArray docs = res.result()
    System.out.println("Document 1: " + docs[0]);
    System.out.println("Document 2: " + docs[1]);
  } else {
    res.cause().printStackTrace();
  }
}));

Delete a document

Will delete a document onto database.

markLogicClient.delete("/json/documents/exemple1.json", res -> {
  if (res.succeeded()) {
    System.out.println("Document deleted");
  } else {
    res.cause().printStackTrace();
  }
});

Search documents

Will search some documents.

SearchOptions searchOptions = new SearchOptions();
searchOptions.pageLen(5L);
searchOptions.directory("/json/documents/");
searchOptions.expression("neighborhoods AND correlations");
markLogicClient.searchDocuments(searchOptions, res -> {
 if (res.succeeded()) {
   JsonArray documents = res.result();
   System.out.println("Found " + documents.size() + " documents);
 } else {
   res.cause().printStackTrace();
 }
});

Management Operations

Following are some examples of the operations supported by MarkLogicManagement.

Consult javadoc/documentation for more details.

Database operations

Forest operations

Host operations

Running the tests

You will need to have MarkLogic server installed and running.

To run tests on MarkLogicClient, you will need to create a http server on your host and a user with rest rights (rest-reader and rest-writer writes).

It is better to create a database instance specific for this tests. Tests will create, search and destroy documents, directories and collections onto this database.

MarkLogicManagement tests using http server on port 8002 which is default manage port on marklogic instance.

Of course it is recommended to execute management test on a specific server because this tests will cause marklogic server reboots due to http server creations and suppressions.
