i'm aware that this is a not-insignificant increase to the frontend code but this change is much more intuitive and navigable. it also adds definitions (and the ref) to statuses so that people better understand what each status means
at present, it's not at all clear that each category is organized by status. this adds filtering per category rather than static organization on the page. it does not break existing links.
