Texture pack / asset releases #20

ESRGAN 4x UI texturesA very quickly made ESRGAN for a few UI textures, using 4xHDcube3: https://pixeldrain.com/u/uxotusNQ |
Both packs use the uncensored Clarissa texture from @thegreatprophetzarquon, download it here first: #20 (comment) After that, download one of the packs bellow and overwrite the texture from thegreatprophetzarquon's pack. Credits to @andreababich for remaking the texts on the small flags texture file. Remade flags + Xbox Buttons Prompts Remade flags + PlayStation Buttons Prompts Dumps Folder (5251 textures) |
Clarissa Sprite Fix (ported/upscaled from FXT) Fixes a large issue with Clarissa's sprites on most non-JP copies of the game. Clarissa texture is from an FXT sprite pack, not really sure who ripped it originally, just modified it to restore the original button prompts & ran it through ESRGAN. (recommend pairing this with Orig resolution: https://www.mediafire.com/file/w3rx1qck24hk8e3/Outrun2006-ClarissaFix_orig.zip/file |
I was gonna ask if we could get an uncut version of Clarissa for the OR2SP portion of OutRun 2006 on PC but I see that is already in the works with the latest commits. Thank emoose you all for the incredible work and DonelBueno too for the Xbox + Remade Flags texture packs too! EDIT: DonelBueno I noticed the Retry and Quit Mission prompts after failing one of the modes still uses keyboard prompts with the Xbox Icons replacement pack. |
That's because the uncensored Clarissa textures share a file with the prompts in the "try again" screen. Try this file instead: |
Outrun 2 JP sprite raw dump (not loadable) Here's a raw PNG dump of 1251 sprite/UI textures from Outrun 2 JP Xbox release (the original pre-C2C): https://www.mediafire.com/file/tszyvz8ri6c84s7/Outrun2Japan-1251_sprites.zip/file Looks like the uncut clarissa there has less color banding than the one included with FXT, but also seems that in C2C they rescaled the clarissa sprites down a tiny bit (90-98%) so might take a little work to copy over from this. Sadly C2C never had any Xbox release in Japan, just PS2, guess FXT probably ripped them from that somehow (not really sure how though, PCSX2 dumping didn't seem to dump them for me, just a bunch of temporary textures :/) |
Seems the car colors are mostly kept inside There's a few blue colors inside Or maybe those blues do get used but the different rendering in C2C makes it look different? Does seem to be a lot of color difference between arcade & C2C when you compare them side by side. |
Ah could be, been working on some tools to dump xbox textures with, here's a dump of the xbox colors: Most of them look much more brighter/saturated than the C2C versions, and seems to have a couple blues there that C2C is missing, maybe could be the one you're looking for. If you rename the Xbox texture to match filename of one of the C2C colors and put it inside |
@jojo670 I've updated my dump folder.zip in my original post, now it includes more textures. Try the 4x_HD_Cube3 model, it worked better here than the model you used on your texture pack, although not perfect. |
Nice work! Can you share your dumps? |
Any plans for Playstation button prompts? |
I can give it a try when I have time, probably in the next few days. |
Done: Flags + PS Buttons.zip Tell me if everything is working as intended. |
|
Hello, I discovered yesterday this project and I'm overwhelmed by its awesomeness. |
I might be stupid; I unzipped all the dds files into OutRun.2006.Coast.2.Coast\textures\load but none of the custom textures are showing up. I also confirmed that SceneTextureReplacement and UITextureReplacement are set to "true" in the OutRun2006Tweaks.ini file. What am I missing? |
I've updated my dump.zip file on my original post after merging your dumped textures with mine. Now it has 4996 textures and uses the english version as the base. All the duplicates were removed. |
The smudged Ferrari logo texture from the main menu was bothering me quite a bit, so I fixed it. |
If someone could remake the speedometers, it would be perfect. |
They look awesome, bro, great work! What are you going to change in your next texture pack? |
These are incredible. Thank you. Drawing the entire UI next yes? :p Only joking. Well, unless you want such a task lol |
Do you have the textures at the root of textures\load\ folder? If they're in subfolders it might not see them properly. It could be worth trying to move your game folder somewhere else too, if it's at a long path or has some other path issue it might stop Tweaks from being able to check them. |
Will you make this available as a download pack? |
all of the in-game HUD fonts including OR2SP mode (excl. speedometer) are Rodin by fontworks. Some of them uses Arial Black but I guess they can't guess the font, so they used Arial Black as a fallback font. |
The fonts on Outrun2SP menu still look pretty bad (841E796B_512x128 and 53CE39D5_512x512): |
Lovely images. With no HUD and timer disabler, we could probably come up with a new custom attract video for the main menu. Similar to the original 1986 game, would be cool. |
You should upload the HUD blank zip in case anyone else wants it.
You should never upscale fonts, they always come out bad. I haven't looked myself, but you can most likely find that font online and recreate it. I have thousands of fonts downloaded myself, I might even have it already. Edit: I didn't see Sonic-TV's comment, I can upload those fonts if you need them. |
Alternate unused colors for Jennifer (brunette) and Clarissa (redhead). Passengers only, I haven't checked if these apply to the cutscene models and the girlfriend sprites used in this game probably don't have these alt variants, so they'd have to be edited (you can see some sprites with the unused colors here). |
They are already uncompressed and should be good to go for any projects. For UI textures, it seems you can get away with uncompressed ones just fine, at least at original resolution, so that looks like the way to go for the UI specifically. I have had one person report that it doesn't work for them; if I get any more reports I'll look into adding a version with DXT compression (which otherwise looks absolutely awful for the UI). Clarissa Poses.zip |
Oh, my mistake, you already posted that before (and I have it downloaded). It just got lost in the clutter, so reposting it is good anyway. Thanks! Since the SEGA jingle is supported now, here's a properly-timed flac (there's already an ogg in the folder). It's fairly loud, so open it in Audacity and adjust it your volume of choosing. Rename to sega441.flac, put it in the Sound folder. |
HD driver's licenses, now that this feature was finally added! spr_sprani_sumo_fe_cvt_Exst.zip Tired of road signs cluttering up the scenery? Want to stop relying on them as a crutch when learning stages? Now you can! All road signs are now invisible. And invisible billboards while I'm at it. This might cause some objects behind billboards that you normally wouldn't see to pop in/out. |
Just to clarify, the mod has been updated to fix the Shiny World typo, however, the extra space in Keep Your Heart Arranged is not a mistake and is how it is named in the vanilla game |
Yes it is. Ctrl-F "load more," click on it. |
The thread should probably be renamed to something general like Mod Releases or Texture, Audio, and Video Mods. |
Redhead Clarissa (2SP cutscene). |
Rival Alberto recolors. |
It looks like the Gamebanana page was finally approved. |
They finally accept it and it's the one where i got the game title wrong lol |
Thanks to the original Chihiro textures, I was able to update my pack of the car renders with uncompressed sprites for the eight original OR2 cars (and its four colors), so these colors will look considerably better. These originally had a more blue-colored dropshadow, so I've used the Xbox dropshadow for consistency (the original sprites are also included). I also reverted my edits to the Ferrari Enzo: it turns out what I thought was part of the car body is the taillight, it's just normally not so bright because it's off, whoops! Updated download here: |
just downloaded the zip. all of the files are png from what I see. where do I put these files so the game can load them? |
That is a resource for folks who are making their own hi-res textures (as those images of the cars are used for various different textures throughout the game). They won't do anything by themselves. |
I have updated my "Higher quality original UI sprites" texture pack with a complete set of textures for the Outrun 2 SP arcade UI. Comparison with the base game here The C2C port unfortunately baked a number of bad-looking scaling choices into the arcade UI spites as detailed here. With the aid of the json atlases emoose's OR2Tool generates, I was able to determine which sprites would require scaling and which could be positioned to match the originals. The car icons come from the Japanese PS2 port. The other icons, when selected, are untouched and uncompressed sprites from the Lindbergh port. This fixes the issue of certain sprites (like the automatic vs manual selection screen) being cut off in the C2C version. The non-selected icons are downscaled from the Lindbergh ones by me, which is unfortunately necessary given C2C's edits, but are cleaner-looking than what was originally presented in C2C. (The "Normal"/"Turned" icons, when non-selected, are not scaled and thus have an incorrect bright border as in the base game, but this is the best compromise in my mind given the car images would otherwise be too large when overlaid). The orange titles use a refined version of this technique to reduce compression artifacts (these have been crunchy in every port). The Lindbergh textures have a number of kerning and font differences to the C2C ones, which are also reflected here. I now have access to the Chihiro textures, and so have been able to clean up more sprites in the game. Notably, I fixed the Outrun 2 course loading screen, which, so far as I can tell, has been broken since Outrun 2 SP (they re-exported the OR2 course graphic, but left some of the adjustment layers from the SP Course map enabled, leaving these artifacts). The results of all of this are necessarily less consistent than the rest of the pack, but look much, much better than the base C2C sprites and largely complete my efforts to fix the crunchy UI textures for the PC C2C port. |
Finally I had some time to finish the "realistic" gauges 😁
The added cars on OR 2006 including the tuned OR ones will use the F50 gauge. |
@Sonic-TV and @Tenome I loved the title screen! Can I request this same intro remake but with the Outrun 2006 C2C logo and instead of the text "outrun2 special tours" that appears before the logo? It would fit very well (and better than the Original 2006 Low Quality Sega Version) because some menus still mention "Outrun2006". |

@thegreatprophetzarquon I was talking with @envido32 and in 8215FD25_1024x512.dds I found an incoerent drop shadow in the letter B of your Higher quality original UI sprites pack. |
Thank you for the catch! And thank you for the fix, but probably no need to expend any extra work if you find a slip-up like this again: I just needed to correct the blend mode on a layer on my end. This has been fixed and my pack updated along with some other small stuff. |
I determined why the crowds at the finish for the Coast 2 Coast missions look so bad: looks like Sumo accidentally obliterated the alpha channel on them. Fortunately you can rename the equivalents from the arcade finish line and voila: But wait, the arcade finish lines have the crowds at a number of resolutions and configurations for optimization. I won't edit those to avoid messing anything up, but lets use the highest available resolution textures for the Coast 2 Coast goal: The highest definition crowds you've ever seen. Forza eat your heart out. My texture pack has been updated accordingly. |
I don't know if this is the correct place to release this, but as the majoraty of visual improvements were released here in this issue, I shall do my contribution. OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast (with OutRun2006Tweaks) - ReShade Arcade Colors PresetsToday I present you this collection of ReShade presets to visually improve the experience of OutRun2006 Coast 2 Coast. FeaturesAs the name of the preset says "Arcade Colors". So does it mean? What does it offer?
PresetsThis collection contains 6 types of presets that were optimized for each kind of hardware performance, which are: Low, Medium, High, Very High, Ultra and Extreme.
PS: Every preset has Antialiasing SMAA, so if it bothers you, just disable it in ReShade overlay configurator (Press HOME Keyboard button). Read the #%$ Manual! Please read the README.TXT for instructions and troubleshooting. Bye bye and creditsI hope you all enjoy (or not). Try it! Preview screenshotsComparison 1Comparison 2Comparison 3Comparison 4DownloadOR2006C2C-ReShade-Arcade.Colors-Presets-v01d-REPACK-Lambada.zip ErrataIn the current release version v01d at the README.TXT I wrote that ReflectionResolution had to be less than 2048 (OutRun2006Tweaks.ini) to make it compatible with ReShade. This is wrong, as I recently tested again it doesn't affect ReShade at all as I proved here. So you can set ReflectionResolution 2048 if you want, it will work. |
Do have a link to the HD GUI assets you're using to go with this ReShade preset, @Zoukambada ? |

OR2006Tweaks allows replacing UI & stage textures in the game, the default INI settings will load in any texture replacements that exist inside
textures\load\
folder.Tweaks can dump out the original game textures for you by enabling
SceneTextureExtract
/UITextureExtract
, but this is only needed if you want to modify/upscale/update the texture dumps yourself. If you're just using texture packs from this thread changing INI settings/dumping textures isn't required.
The latest textures are now posted in the OR2006Sprites repository, started by Sonic-TV and other members of the OR2006Tweaks discord, a lot of great work is being done there, if you want to help out feel free to join the discord!
A compilation of the latest OR2006Sprites textures for easy install, can be found on Envido32's repo (scroll down & expand the Assets section): https://github.com/envido32/OR2006Sprites/releases
