Consider adding a `.superRefine()` to validate required fields based on action type.</violation>

🧹 Nitpick comments (7)
apps/web/app/(app)/[emailAccountId]/assistant/Rules.tsx (1)
201-248: Consider validating imported rules against the schema before sending to server.The import function sends
rulesArraydirectly to the server without client-side validation. While the server will validate via Zod schema, providing immediate client-side feedback would improve UX by catching obvious errors without a round-trip.🔎 Optional: Add client-side validation
import { importRulesBody } from "@/utils/actions/rule.validation"; // Inside importRules callback, after parsing JSON: const parseResult = importRulesBody.safeParse({ rules: rulesArray }); if (!parseResult.success) { toastError({ title: "Invalid rules format", description: parseResult.error.errors[0]?.message || "Validation failed", }); return; }apps/web/utils/actions/rule.ts (2)
993-1064: Sequential database operations could be slow for large imports.The loop processes rules one at a time with
awaitinside. For large imports, this could be slow. Consider usingPromise.allSettledwith batching for better performance, or document the expected import size limits.This is acceptable for typical use cases (< 50 rules), but if larger imports are expected, batching would improve performance:
🔎 Optional: Batch processing example
// Process in batches of 10 const BATCH_SIZE = 10; const results = []; for (let i = 0; i < rules.length; i += BATCH_SIZE) { const batch = rules.slice(i, i + BATCH_SIZE); const batchResults = await Promise.allSettled( batch.map(async (rule) => { // ... existing processing logic }) ); results.push(...batchResults); }
1016-1036: Update query doesn't re-verifyemailAccountIdownership in WHERE clause.While
existingRuleIdis derived from a query scoped toemailAccountId, the update query only usesid. For defense-in-depth, consider addingemailAccountIdto the WHERE clause to prevent any edge cases where the ID might be manipulated.🔎 Proposed fix
if (existingRuleId) { // Update existing rule await prisma.rule.update({ - where: { id: existingRuleId }, + where: { id: existingRuleId, emailAccountId }, data: {Based on coding guidelines: "ALL database queries MUST be scoped to the authenticated user/account by including user/account filtering in WHERE clauses".
apps/web/lib/commands/types.ts (2)
3-8: Useexport typefor type aliases.Per coding guidelines, types should be exported with
export type.🔎 Proposed refactor
-export type CommandSection = +export type CommandSection =Note: This is already correct. The guideline is satisfied.
10-20: Consider usingexport typefor interface.While TypeScript allows
export interface, the coding guidelines preferexport typefor consistency.However, interfaces are appropriate when you expect extension/augmentation, so this is acceptable as-is if future extensions are anticipated.
apps/web/hooks/useCommandPaletteCommands.ts (1)
25-82: Consider moving helper function to the bottom of the file.Per coding guidelines, helper functions should be added to the bottom of files rather than the top. The
useNavigationItemshook andNavigationIteminterface could be moved below the mainuseCommandPaletteCommandsexport for better code organization.The implementation itself is solid - good use of
useMemowith proper dependency onemailAccountId, and theNavigationIteminterface is correctly kept internal (not exported).apps/web/components/CommandK.tsx (1)
116-138: Consider awaiting async command actions.The
actionproperty inCommandtype is defined as() => void | Promise<void>. Callingcommand.action()without awaiting could lead to unhandled promise rejections if an async action throws.🔎 Proposed fix
// execute command - const executeCommand = React.useCallback((command: Command) => { + const executeCommand = React.useCallback(async (command: Command) => { setOpen(false); setSearch(""); - command.action(); + try { + await command.action(); + } catch (error) { + console.error("Command execution failed:", error); + } }, []);

Use SafeError for error responses to prevent information disclosure. Generic error messages should not reveal internal IDs, logic, or resource ownership details

Prevent privilege escalation by never allowing users to modify system fields, ownership fields, or admin-only attributes through user input

apps/web/hooks/useCommandPaletteCommands.ts (5)
1-24: LGTM!The imports are well-organized, using specific icon imports from lucide-react for optimal tree-shaking and following the project's
@/path alias conventions.
25-30: LGTM!The interface is correctly scoped to this file only, following the guideline to not export types that are only used locally.
32-82: LGTM!The
useNavigationItemshook correctly memoizes the navigation items withemailAccountIdas the dependency. The account-prefixed paths ensure proper routing context.
91-158: LGTM!The command generation is well-structured with proper memoization. The
Manage Accountscommand correctly uses an unprefixed path (/accounts) for the global accounts management route.
193-211: LGTM!The hook correctly composes all commands and exposes both the combined
commandsarray and individual category arrays for flexible consumption. TheisLoadingstate properly reflects both async data sources.

131-136: Consider adding error handling for async command actions.The
command.action()can return aPromise<void>. If an async action rejects, it would result in an unhandled promise rejection. While most commands are synchronous navigation actions, adding defensive error handling would improve robustness.🔎 Suggested improvement
- const executeCommand = React.useCallback((command: Command) => { - setOpen(false); - setSearch(""); - command.action(); - }, []); + const executeCommand = React.useCallback(async (command: Command) => { + setOpen(false); + setSearch(""); + try { + await command.action(); + } catch (error) { + console.error("Command execution failed:", error); + } + }, []);

144-155: Good fix:shouldFilter: falsecorrectly disables cmdk's built-in filtering.This properly prevents double-filtering since custom
fuzzySearchis used. TheonKeyDownhandler correctly allows Escape to propagate for dialog closure while stopping other key events.
157-207: Well-structured keyboard shortcuts with proper cleanup.The effect correctly:
- Handles Cmd+K toggle independently of focus state
- Guards other shortcuts behind
document.activeElement.tagName === "BODY"check- Supports external triggering via custom event
- Cleans up all listeners on unmount
Dependencies are complete and the logic flow is clear.
221-269: Clean implementation of sectioned command list with loading state.The rendering logic is well-structured:
- Loading spinner provides good UX feedback
- Separator logic correctly renders only between non-empty sections
React.Fragmentwith key avoids unnecessary DOM nodes- Conditional rendering of icon, description, and shortcut is clean
271-290: Accessible keyboard hints footer.Good use of
<kbd>elements for keyboard hints with appropriate styling. This improves discoverability for users unfamiliar with the palette shortcuts.

@rsnodgrass It is helpful functionality to have though, so it's nice that it's been added. I wonder if we want to move it into the settings tab. We could have a setting at the bottom that allows you to import and export your rules. One other thing to look at is we have the And then one more thing to be aware of is there is a feature on the accounts page where you can transfer rules between accounts. |

Also this PR does both command K and import/export. I wanted to merge in command K, but it's blocked by the import/export functionality atm. |

68-68: Outdated comment: "compose" is no longer included.The comment says "archive and compose" but only archive is added to the actions array. Update the comment to reflect the current implementation.
🔎 Suggested fix
- // build action commands that include archive and compose + // build action commands that include archive
119-124: Consider handling potential async errors.Since
Command.actioncan return aPromise<void>, unhandled rejections are possible if an action fails. Consider wrapping with error handling for defensive coding.🔎 Suggested approach
const executeCommand = React.useCallback((command: Command) => { setOpen(false); setSearch(""); - command.action(); + Promise.resolve(command.action()).catch((error) => { + console.error("Command execution failed:", error); + }); }, []);

Learning: In Next.js 15, both `params` and `searchParams` passed to page components in the App Router are Promises that need to be awaited. They should be typed as `Promise<{...}>` and accessed using `await` in server components or React's `use()` hook in client components. This is different from Next.js 14 where they were plain objects.

apps/web/app/(app)/[emailAccountId]/organization/page.tsx (1)
4-4: LGTM: Clean import following project conventions.The import statement correctly uses the
@/path alias and imports the utility that's used on line 23.apps/web/components/CommandK.tsx (4)
132-143: LGTM!The
shouldFilter: falseproperly disables cmdk's built-in filtering to work with the custom fuzzy search implementation. The keyboard handling correctly allows Escape to propagate for closing the dialog.
145-195: LGTM!The keyboard shortcut handling is well-structured with proper guards:
- Cmd/Ctrl+K toggles palette regardless of context
- Other shortcuts only fire when focus is on body (preventing interference with text inputs)
- Custom event listener enables external components to open the palette
- Cleanup properly removes both listeners
209-257: LGTM!The rendering implementation is well-structured:
- Loading state with centered spinner provides good UX feedback
- Section grouping with conditional separators avoids visual clutter
- CommandItem includes comprehensive value for potential filtering fallbacks
- Icon and description rendering handles optional fields gracefully
259-278: Nice addition.The keyboard hints footer improves discoverability for users unfamiliar with command palette shortcuts. Good use of semantic
<kbd>elements.
Pulling in changes from my main (which had the import/export) was a mistake. Let me fix that. Totally agree on moving import/export to settings since this should be a rare operation. |
- Add command palette (Cmd-K) for quick navigation and actions - Searchable rules, settings, and account switching - Escape key closes email preview - Search button in sidebar above Help Center - Feature flag NEXT_PUBLIC_COMMAND_PALETTE_ENABLED (default: true) - Fuzzy search for filtering commands
- Memoize commandProps and onOpenChange handlers - Extract COMMAND_PALETTE_EVENT constant for type safety - Remove unused CommandGroup interface - Add JSDoc comments for fuzzy search scoring weights
Import was pointing to non-existent @/providers/UserProvider, should be @/hooks/useUser where the hook is actually defined.
Command palette existed before enhancement, so feature flag is unnecessary. Always enable command palette - no need for users to disable it.

176-191: Avoid empty string in keywords when account.email is falsy.If
account.emailis undefined or null, the fallback|| ""adds an empty string to the keywords array. While not breaking, this pollutes the search index with unnecessary empty values.🔎 Suggested improvement
.map((account, index) => ({ id: `account-${account.id}`, label: `Switch to ${account.email}`, description: account.name || undefined, icon: UserIcon, section: "accounts" as const, priority: index + 1, - keywords: ["switch", "account", account.email?.toLowerCase() || ""], + keywords: [ + "switch", + "account", + ...(account.email ? 7-7: Consider aligning response type naming with convention.The response type
UserResponsecould follow theGet[Feature]Responsepattern more closely, e.g.,GetMeResponseorGetUserMeResponse, to match the coding guidelines for GET API route response types.📝 Suggested naming
-export type UserResponse = Awaited<ReturnType<typeof getUser>> | null; +export type GetMeResponse = Awaited<ReturnType<typeof getUser>> | null;Note: This would require updating any client-side code that imports
UserResponse.apps/web/hooks/useCommandPaletteCommands.ts (1)
121-122: Consider exposing error states from SWR hooks.The hook consumes
useRules()anduseUser()but only returnsisLoading, not potential error states. If either hook fails, commands will be silently missing without user feedback. Consider returning an aggregatederrorproperty so the CommandK component can display an error state.🔎 Proposed enhancement
Return error state from both hooks:
export function useCommandPaletteCommands() { const router = useRouter(); const { emailAccountId } = useAccount(); - const { data: rulesData, isLoading: rulesLoading } = useRules(); - const { data: user, isLoading: userLoading } = useUser(); + const { data: rulesData, isLoading: rulesLoading, error: rulesError } = useRules(); + const { data: user, isLoading: userLoading, error: userError } = useUser(); const navigationItems = useNavigationItems(); // ... rest of implementation ... return { commands: allCommands, isLoading: rulesLoading || userLoading, + error: rulesError || userError, navigationCommands, settingsCommands, ruleCommands, accountCommands, }; }apps/web/components/CommandK.tsx (3)
65-65: Update outdated comment.The comment mentions "archive and compose" but the
actionCommandsnow only includes the Archive command. Compose was intentionally removed based on earlier feedback.🔎 Suggested fix
- // build action commands that include archive and compose + // build action commands for the current email const actionCommands = React.useMemo<Command[]>(() => {
49-49: Consider displaying error state from command fetching.The component shows a loading spinner when
isLoadingis true but doesn't handle potential errors fromuseCommandPaletteCommands. If the rules or user data fetch fails, users will see an empty command list with no indication of why. Consider consuming anerrorproperty from the hook (if available) and displaying an error message.🔎 Proposed enhancement
- const { commands, isLoading } = useCommandPaletteCommands(); + const { commands, isLoading, error } = useCommandPaletteCommands();Then in the render section:
<CommandList> {isLoading ? ( <div className="flex items-center justify-center py-6"> <Loader2Icon className="h-5 w-5 animate-spin text-muted-foreground" /> </div> + ) : error ? ( + <div className="flex flex-col items-center justify-center py-6 text-center"> + <p className="text-sm text-muted-foreground"> + Failed to load commands + </p> + </div> ) : (Also applies to: 201-205
223-227: Optional: Simplify CommandItem value prop.Since
shouldFilter: falsedisables cmdk's internal filtering, thevalueprop (which includescommand.id,label, andkeywords) is only used as the selection value, not for filtering. You could simplify to justcommand.idsince your customfuzzySearchalready handles keywords.🔎 Suggested simplification
<CommandItem key={command.id} - value={`${command.id} ${command.label} ${command.keywords?.join(" ") || ""}`} + value={command.id} onSelect={() => executeCommand(command)} >

apps/web/app/api/user/me/route.ts (1)
36-37: LGTM! Appropriate fields for user's own data.Adding
nameto the emailAccounts selection is reasonable for a/meendpoint, as it returns the authenticated user's own account information. This likely supports the command palette account-switching feature mentioned in the PR.apps/web/hooks/useCommandPaletteCommands.ts (2)
39-116: LGTM! Clean feature-flag-driven navigation structure.The helper properly gates navigation items behind feature flags and provider checks, uses
useMemowith correct dependencies, and consistently appliesprefixPathfor account-scoped routing.
125-245: Well-structured command composition.All command categories are properly memoized, follow the
Commandinterface consistently, use namespaced IDs, and include appropriate keywords for fuzzy search. The routing logic correctly usesprefixPathfor account-scoped routes and omits it for the global accounts page.apps/web/components/CommandK.tsx (4)
25-39: Clean section configuration.The constants provide a clear, type-safe way to control section display order and labels.
143-187: Robust keyboard shortcut handling.The implementation correctly:
- Toggles the palette with Cmd/Ctrl+K regardless of state
- Prevents other shortcuts from firing when the palette is open
- Gates archive/compose shortcuts to only fire when body is focused
- Handles Escape to close preview when appropriate
- Includes all necessary dependencies
208-249: Well-structured sectioned rendering.The section-based rendering logic correctly:
- Filters out empty sections
- Adds separators only between non-empty sections
- Renders command items with all optional properties (icon, description, shortcut)
- Provides descriptive headings per section
251-270: Clear and accessible keyboard hints.The footer provides helpful keyboard navigation guidance using semantic
<kbd>elements with appropriate styling.

Hey, I'm merging in now. I made some updates. I decided not to have Cmd+K in the sidebar right now. I'm going to check with someone else what they think about it. I've also removed certain items from the Command K menu. For example, going to the mail view or going to the compose view. These are really not used anymore, they're not properly supported, there are lots of bugs around the mail view, so I don't want users accidentally getting it. So I removed it. |
Sounds good, thanks! I do think sidebar note on bottom left is nice, it encourages people to learn power features in a fairly visually unintrusive way. I appreciate avoiding human cognitive overload, and guiding people into the simplest UX, but this seems minor and a way to discover new features you may not have known existed. Actually, one other thing that would be nice is a quick jump to Discord. I found the Discord link to be really buried (it is in the help pages) and encouraging community would be nice. Will be curious what the other folks think. |
