fix(grok-web): repair validator probe + accept full cookie blobs - #1793
diegosouzapw merged 4 commits into
Conversation
Two related fixes for adding grok-web accounts that fail with "Invalid SSO cookie" today: 1. Validator request used modeId "auto", which grok.com no longer accepts (returns 403 "Model is not found"). The status-only check then misclassified the 403 as auth failure. Switch the probe to "fast" and only fail validation on 403s whose body matches /invalid-credentials|unauthenticated|unauthorized/i. Drop the dead "auto" entry from the provider registry and the executor's MODEL_MAP, repointing the unmapped-model fallback and the legacy "grok-4" alias to "fast" so existing configs keep working. 2. Validator and executor only accepted a bare value or "sso=<value>"; pasting a full DevTools cookie blob shoved the entire string into "Cookie: sso=<blob>". New extractCookieValue(rawValue, cookieName) helper in webCookieAuth.ts handles bare values, single pairs, and full cookie blobs uniformly; both call sites use it. Tests: new tests/unit/web-cookie-auth.test.ts (8 cases) and two new specialty validator cases (blob parsing + missing-sso fallback). 71 related tests pass. Do not mark unmatched 403 responses as valid
This branch treats every 403 whose body does not match invalid-credentials|unauthenticated|unauthorized as a successful validation, which can accept unusable Grok credentials (for example generic 403 Forbidden, subscription/entitlement 403s, or any auth error wording drift) and only fail later at request time. The validator should not return valid: true for unknown 403 causes; otherwise account setup can succeed with credentials that are immediately rejected in production calls.

Good catch — fixed in commit ce54f5d. The original handler defaulted to valid: true for any 403 whose body didn't match the auth regex, which would accept generic 403 Forbidden, entitlement 403s, geo 403s, etc. Inverted the default: auth-shaped 403 still maps to the re-paste hint, and any other 403 now returns valid: false with the upstream body sliced into the error so the cause is visible (e.g. if upstream renames the probe model, the user sees "Model is not found" rather than a misleading 'valid' verdict). Added two new tests covering model-not-found-403 and generic-Forbidden-403, both asserting valid: false.

Code Review
This pull request removes the 'Grok Auto' model in favor of 'Grok Fast' as the default for Grok Web and introduces a more robust cookie extraction utility, extractCookieValue, to handle various input formats for the sso cookie. The validation logic for Grok Web is also updated to improve error handling for 403 responses by checking for specific authentication failure messages. Feedback was provided to optimize performance by moving regex creation outside of the extractCookieValue function.

Declining this one. extractCookieValue is called during account validation/setup, not on a hot path — at most a handful of invocations per session. cookieName is parameterized (different cookies per provider), so the regex can't be a simple module-level constant; caching by name in a Map would add complexity for no measurable benefit at this call rate. Happy to revisit if it ever shows up in a profile.
Codex flagged that the original 403 handler treated every body that did not match invalid-credentials|unauthenticated|unauthorized as valid: true. That accepted any non-auth 403 (generic Forbidden, entitlement, geo, model-rename) as a successful validation, only failing later at request time. Invert the default: keep the auth-shaped 403 mapped to the re-paste hint, but unrecognized 403 bodies now return valid: false with the upstream body sliced into the error so the cause is visible. The probe still uses modelId: "fast" so a model-not-found 403 should not occur in normal operation; if upstream renames the probe model, the failure is now an actionable error message instead of a misleading "valid" verdict. Tests: replaced the 'model-not-found is treated as auth-passed' case with two new cases asserting both the model-not-found 403 and a generic 'Forbidden' 403 surface as failures. 72 related tests pass.

This caused exhausted accounts to be retried every 3-5 seconds indefinitely instead of being blocked by the provider breaker. These awaits sit between stream controller creation and executor.execute(), causing requests to hang indefinitely past the 600s deadline. Pass streamController.signal to both functions so they can respond to abort events and terminate early when the request deadline expires. * docs(changelog): record PR diegosouzapw#1748 for next release * fix(models): apply blocked providers filter to non-chat catalog models (diegosouzapw#1752) * chore(release): v3.7.5 — integrate ngrok tunnel and fix models filter (diegosouzapw#1753, diegosouzapw#1752) * chore(release): update changelog format for v3.7.5 * Speed up endpoint initial render * Address endpoint review feedback * Add endpoint loading model translations * fix: resolve build issues and implement memory UPSERT logic (diegosouzapw#1763) * fix: resolve build issues for v3.7.5 and apply memory/translation fixes 1. antigravityHeaders.ts: restore ANTIGRAVITY_LOAD_CODE_ASSIST_* exports for oauth.ts compatibility 2. next.config.mjs: add @ngrok/ngrok to serverExternalPackages and webpack externals to handle native .node modules 3. Memory system: UPSERT logic to prevent duplicate entries with same apiKeyId + key 4. Chinese translations: complete CLI tools and memory dashboard localizations 5. Test fixes: unique keys for pagination tests to comply with unique constraint Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix: address Gemini Code Assist review feedback 1. store.ts: add expires_at to UPDATE statement in UPSERT logic - Previously, expires_at was not being persisted to database on update - This caused state mismatch between returned Memory object and actual DB row 2. package-lock.json: revert react-markdown registry to official npmjs.org - Mirror-specific registry URL (npmmirror.com) should not be in lockfile Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(antigravity): normalize Gemini bridge payloads (diegosouzapw#1769) * fix(antigravity): normalize Gemini bridge payloads Clamp Claude bridge output tokens, use Gemini-valid system roles and tool names, and serialize antigravity requests from a cloned body so Cloud Code payload shaping stays valid. * fix(cli): stop fallback after unsafe known paths Preserve known-path security checks by stopping command discovery when a configured CLI path is suspicious or non-executable, instead of falling through to PATH discovery. * test(memory): make query result assertion deterministic Avoid relying on database result ordering when checking filtered memory keys so the unit suite remains stable across runs. * fix(review): preserve safe cloning and CLI reasons Handle non-cloneable antigravity request bodies without throwing and preserve specific CLI known-path failure reasons instead of masking them as not_found. * fix(sse): propagate AbortSignal to pre-fetch semaphore and rate-limit awaits (diegosouzapw#1771) When a combo target takes too long, the request-level deadline fires and calls abortController.abort() on the stream controller, but the abort signal never reaches pending awaits in acquireAccountSemaphore() or withRateLimit(). These awaits sit between stream controller creation and executor.execute(), causing requests to hang indefinitely past the 600s deadline. Pass streamController.signal to both functions so they can respond to abort events and terminate early when the request deadline expires. Their PRs were resolved locally due to merge conflicts but closed instead of merged, preventing them from appearing in the Contributors graph. This caused exhausted accounts to be retried every 3-5 seconds indefinitely instead of being blocked by the provider breaker. Adding 429 ensures persistent rate limiting triggers the circuit breaker after the configured failure threshold, giving the provider time to recover. * fix(claude): respect client thinking/effort params to prevent forced quota drain (diegosouzapw#1761) Previously, OmniRoute unconditionally injected thinking: {type: 'adaptive'} and output_config: {effort: 'high'} for Claude Opus 4.7 in Claude Code client requests. This caused Claude Max 5h quota to drain in ~15 minutes. Now checks the original client body: if thinking or output_config are explicitly set (even to null or a different value), the injection is skipped. Summary
Two related fixes that together unblock adding
grok-webaccounts (which currently always fail with "Invalid SSO cookie"):modeId. The validator was POSTing to grok.com withmodelId: "auto", which the upstream API no longer accepts — it returns403 Model is not found. The status-only check then misclassified that 403 as an auth failure. Switch the probe tomodelId: "fast"(a still-valid model) and only fail validation on 403s whose body matches/invalid-credentials|unauthenticated|unauthorized/iso a future model rename can't silently break validation again. Also drops the dead"auto"entry fromproviderRegistry.tsand the executor'sMODEL_MAP, repointing the unmapped-model fallback and the legacy"grok-4"alias to"fast"so existing user configs keep working.sso=<value>pair. Pasting a full DevTools cookie blob (the realistic copy-paste path) shoved the entire string intoCookie: sso=<entire_blob>and grok.com rejected the malformed header. NewextractCookieValue(rawValue, cookieName)helper inwebCookieAuth.tshandles bare values, single pairs, and full cookie blobs uniformly; both the validator and executor route through it, so the two surfaces can no longer drift.Files Changed
src/lib/providers/validation.ts— switched probe tofast, body-aware 403 handling.src/lib/providers/webCookieAuth.ts— newextractCookieValuehelper.open-sse/executors/grok-web.ts— usesextractCookieValue, repointsMODEL_MAPdefaults tofast.open-sse/config/providerRegistry.ts— drops the deadautomodel.tests/unit/web-cookie-auth.test.ts— new file, 8 cases covering bare / single-pair / full-blob / wrong-cookie / missing-cookie inputs.tests/unit/provider-validation-specialty.test.ts— 2 new cases (blob parsing, missing-ssofallback).tests/unit/grok-web.test.ts— refreshed for the new default model.Why this is needed (root cause)
The grok-web provider has two distinct user-facing failure modes today:
modelId: "auto"probe. The status-only check has no way to tell "model not found" apart from "auth failed" since both return 403.Cookieheader.Both paths lead to the same misleading error in the dashboard. Fixing the probe alone would unblock 1 but leave 2; fixing the cookie parsing alone would leave 1. They have to ship together.
Test plan
npm run test:unit -- tests/unit/web-cookie-auth.test.ts tests/unit/provider-validation-specialty.test.ts tests/unit/grok-web.test.ts(71 related tests pass)sso=<value>, full DevTools blob)/v1/chat/completionsround-trip against the running container withgrok-4(legacy alias) andfast(new default)Backwards compatibility
model: "auto"ormodel: "grok-4"configured will silently route tofastvia theMODEL_MAPfallback — no migration needed.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
