However this cause confusion during templates edits, a better approach might be to render anyway default values in the templates if present in _helpers ?

Yeah talm uses default Talos processor to render configuration, then compares it with the default one and removes keys that have unchanged.

discovery key by default is true in talos config for this reason it has removed on result

We can consider another logic for this though

Closing the issue as the --full parameter is all that is needed to solve the confusion. I added few lines in the readme that uses it in #71 as a reminder
