Network Canvas Server 6.1.1

This is a bug-fix release, and should be installed by all users currently running version 6.1.0. It fixes an issue related to sessions imported via graphml that contain categorical values.

If you are impacted by this issue, a special menu command (Develop -> Correct inconsistent variable types) has been implemented that you can use to automatically fix the issue.

Changelog:

  • Fixes an issue whereby sessions that were imported to Server from graphml files would not correctly export their categorical variables

Network Canvas Server 6.1.0

This is the first significant feature update to Server since our launch. It implements an 'entity resolution' feature that allows a researcher to merge alters across interviews. Review the changelog below, and take extra care when updating if you are currently in the process of collecting data.

Changelog:

  • Implements 'entity resolution'. This feature allows a researcher to 'resolve' nodes across different interviews, based on any criteria or methodology they wish. Consult the entity-resolution-sample repository for further details and documentation on using this feature.

Welcome to Server 5.1.0

This release includes the following fixes and improvements:

  • Fixed an issue that prevented Network Canvas clients running on iOS from pairing or fetching protocols.
  • Implemented a new "regenerate certificates" menu item, which should help with debugging pairing issues.
  • Added color coding to the workspace icon to indicate the schema version of the protocol.
  • Added a note to the export screen advising users that ego data is not included in GraphML export.

Known Issues

  • The packaged app is not currently functioning on Linux. This can be worked around by running the app in development mode, or in its unpackaged form. We do not have a timeframe for fixing this issue.
  • There may be issues with extended Latin alphabet characters in exported data. If you encounter this issue, please contact us to help us debug.

This app is part of a free, open-source suite of tools for the collection of social network data developed through the Complex Data Collective, a registered not-for-profit, and funded by the National Institutes of Health (R01 DA042711). Network Canvas is a collaboration between Northwestern University and the University of Oxford managed out of Northwestern’s Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing.

Welcome to Server 5.0.0

This release includes the following fixes and improvements:

  • Updated the node and electron versions that the app is built with. This should result in increased performance and compatibility.
  • Updated the shared Network Canvas UI library to include new fixes and style tweaks.
  • Implemented color coding for the workspace buttons based on schema version. This should help to find protocol workspaces faster.
  • Fixed an issue where dragging a protocol from another app (Slack, Outlook, etc.) would cause Server to crash.
  • Notarized the app, allowing it to be downloaded and installed on macOS Catalina (10.15.x)

Known Issues

  • There may be issues with extended Latin alphabet characters in exported data. If you encounter this issue, please contact us to help us debug.

This app is part of a free, open-source suite of tools for the collection of social network data developed through the Complex Data Collective, a registered not-for-profit, and funded by the National Institutes of Health (R01 DA042711). Welcome to Server 4.1.0

This release includes the following fixes and improvements:

  • Fixes a crash when viewing the settings screen for some protocols
  • Adds the ability to see charts for ego level data

Known Issues

  • There may be issues with extended Latin alphabet characters in exported data. If you encounter this issue, please contact us to help us debug.
  • If you drag a protocol file from an attachment (e.g. from email or slack) to the drop target on the left side of Server, Server will crash and close automatically. We are aware of the issue and are working on a fix.

Welcome to Server Beta 1!

Server is a data management tool that allows you to securely deploy interview protocols to Network Canvas devices, and receive data back from them. It provides an overview dashboard where you can see the status of your data at a glance, and allows you to export this data in a format of your choosing.

Release notes:

  • This release contains several small fixes since our initial beta release, and is recommended for all users.

There are several "known issues" with this release. Please find them below.

  • There are no charts for Ego variables on the overview screen.
    • Strategies for mediation: None.
    • Long term resolution: We hope to implement these charts in the next release
  • Attempting to import an invalid protocol may cause the app to crash
    • Strategies for mediation: Ensure your protocol is valid before importing, and report instances where crashing occurs (including the protocol file that caused the crash wherever possible).
    • Long term resolution: Handle protocol import errors more effectively.
  • Session list is limited to 100 sessions. More sessions can be imported and exported, but they are not shown in the session list.
    • Strategies for mediation: None. Please contact us if you wish to collect more observations than the current limit.
    • Long term resolution: Implement pagination or lazy loading for the session browser.
