this anticipates #1088: With this change, the LinkedUp code can be
changed to use only the stdlib, but no definitions from the prelude.
This means that #1088 would not break LinkedUp.

this requires caffeinelabs/motoko#1096. Once that
is merged, reaches sdk etc, you can use this PR to make your code
compile again.
