Make components more robust in case of store/api errors

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
In some cases, the client API might throw errors, e.g., network connection errors or bugs / issues with the backend. In this case, the components don't properly catch the exceptions but things just stop working.

Rather, catch the errors and raise on-error events.
