Hi! I want to use to make ambient backlight for my PC monitor. I read the instructions on the link below and it seems to me there is a lot of unnecessary hardware (I suppose the instructions are made for TV). Tell me dummy in this matter - what do I need to create ambient backlight based on the SK6812 Cold White 144 led / m strip (approximately 2.5 m ~ 350 LEDs) (Or is there already a better strip for this purpose?). I understood from the instructions that it is better to split it into 2 segments for better performance. What else will I need? For a PC, you don't need a capture card and HDMI splitter or what? (Sorry if the structure of the question is unclear, I use a translator) https://www.hyperhdr.eu/2023/02/ultimate-guide-on-how-to-build-led.html?m=1 |

Hi, as hardware you might want to use a rp2040 with build in level shifter. You connect it via usb to the pc. Software runs on the pc and grabs the screen. That’s it. |

144 is definitely too much, especially if you're going to be sitting close to the monitor, because you won't be able to limit the minimum brightness too much. I'd rather think about 30 or 60 leds/meter. Besides, the high 'resolution' of LEDs can be distracting when working in a desktop with flickering due to details like window movement, although it can be reduced using the group function in the LED geometry designer in HyperHDR. I suspect almost solid color ambient lighting could be more comfort. In games, it probably wouldn't be that important and you will need dynamic and high LED resolution. |
