It is a bit unclear which version of protractor should be considered for the latest. There is version 6.0.0 without '-beta', so it would suggest it is the latest one.

However, it is not tagged in npm and executing

npm show protractor@latest version

gives as a result 5.4.2.

For better test results i would recommend 5.4.2.
I recently asked the angular team for an approximate release date of 6.0.0 but it looks like is going to take time.

+1 to this. This has been very confusing for my team when we were discussing moving our project to the latest version, and to be honest, I'm still not entirely clear what is going on. Is 6.0 an actual release? If not, why is it listed as so here? I would appreciate documentation concerning recommended and official versions.

I think it is mainly described in #5192 but still ... I ran in to this issue first: #5348 and then tried to solve it by upgading to 6.0.0, which doesn't solve anything as there is the bug that I previously referenced ... @cnishina has been awfully quiet the last period ... Is Protractor going to be discontinued?

Thanks for the link @woppa684 . Still going to try reaching out on twitter cause I don't like speculating.
