The Serialization V2 switch is a boolean read once at startup. HOCON covers every user and Akka.Hosting writes the key, so SerializationV2Setup added a public type and a precedence rule for nothing.

Changes

  • Delete SerializationV2Setup; Serialization reads only akka.actor.serialization-v2.
  • WithSerializationV2(bool enabled = true) now prepends akka.actor.serialization-v2 = on|off (same signature), so it beats the reference config and earlier HOCON, and a later call beats an earlier one.
  • Drop the Setup cases from SerializationV2SwitchSpec; update the akka.conf and XML doc comments.
  • Remove SerializationV2Setup from the Core API approval.

Testing

  • SerializationV2SwitchSpec, Akka.API.Tests (incl. SerializerTableSpec), serialization tests in Akka.Tests.
  • Hosting specs assert the key is true after WithSerializationV2(), false after WithSerializationV2(false) (over earlier on HOCON), and that the last call wins.

Breaking changes

None. SerializationV2Setup never shipped in a release.

Follow-up to #8724. Part of #8713.
