feat(sglang): route KVCR HiCache inventory through state agents - #17531
Connect SGLang HiCacheStorage's KVCR-owned inventory to Dynamo's state agent so peer-fetch hints reflect actual KVCR DRAM residency, independently of GPU/HiCache-host copies.
Key Changes
Approximately 400 added production LOC, including relocated helpers; tests/docs excluded.
Attach reported per-DP owners, incarnation-specific raw topics and reachable peer endpoints before worker registration; preserve the disabled/legacy path.
Use engine-local inventory lifetime: clear on detach, release failed slots, and fence both event domains after a terminal sequence gap. Preserve vLLM Guard's durable/advisory behavior.
Share endpoint/owner validation and bounded cleanup; reject loopback advertisements without masking worker errors/cancellation. Keep all seven distinct validator safety checks in concise table-driven coverage.
Requires sgl-project/sglang#45647, "publish_inventory": true, remote hints, Dynamo-format KV events and a state-agent host. Upgrade frontend, worker and host together; see the backend README. HiCacheStorage only, not linker mode.
Validation
All 8 reviewed-source E2E cases passed: Qwen3-0.6B through the real frontend, TP1/TP2 × Python/actual Rust tree cores × both residency cases, on one host with two B200s and reachable non-loopback endpoints. The tested source hashes match 5ba144a9a7.
Source after independent eviction
Verified result
GPU/HiCache retains prefix; KVCR evicts it
Native LRU removal on every TP shard; no peer hint/transfer; 0 destination reuse
KVCR retains prefix; GPU/HiCache evicts it
Genuine router-generated hint; 192/256 tokens restored; all 8 output IDs match cold inference
Each remote case verified source_write/remote_deliver: 3 blocks/6 spans per TP shard, 22,020,096 aggregate source-send bytes, matching deposited/delivered byte digests and no failed keys or nonzero failure/partial/error/drop native counters. Independent local audit verified all 369 evidence hashes and 16 distinct owners/topics. The harness pins only the destination, never source hints.
Old-code regressions reproduce slot leakage, post-gap publication and cleanup/endpoint failures; fixed checks pass: 21 SGLang Python, 3 SDK-free vLLM lifecycle and 20 native Rust checks. The shared-helper move is independently byte-reproduced.
TP2 engines share the two GPUs with private process groups/caches/agents. This is not performance, high-load, multi-node, hybrid-model, P/D or full-vLLM qualification. The Python queue blocks, but ZMQ PUB can still drop at HWM; detected gaps retire the source until restart, without replay/resynchronization.
The SGLang worker can attach KVCR-owned HiCache inventory when startup metadata advertises the required capability. The change adds descriptor validation and worker lifecycle wiring, extends owned-residency protocol support, and updates CacheOwner reset, readiness, and source-gap behavior for process-local inventory.
Adds SglangHiCacheV1 and accepts ingress protocols that support owned residency in attachment validation, source compatibility checks, and intent validation.
Reads and validates inventory metadata, creates per-rank descriptors, and tests valid and rejected metadata. The README describes prerequisites, constraints, and process-local readiness behavior.
Worker attachment and event-source wiring components/src/dynamo/sglang/init_llm.py, components/src/dynamo/sglang/publisher.py, components/src/dynamo/sglang/register.py
Starts and closes the state-agent lifecycle in decode and prefill workers. Inventory sources bypass the existing KV-event publisher setup and set the runtime event-source mode to state_agent_v2.
Resets CacheOwner inventory on HiCache attachment and detachment. HiCache readiness depends on attachment readiness, and source cursor gaps or regressions fail the source. The host shuts down the agent when its HiCache owner has no matching intents.
Repeated HiCache worker replacement can consume additional publisher sockets, and a narrowly timed startup cancellation can leave stale registrations. Resolve those lifecycle risks before merging.

Explanation
The title "feat(sglang): route KVCR HiCache inventory through state agents" names the main change: SGLang HiCache inventory owned by KVCR is attached to the KV state agent. The changeset adds the state-agent attachment in state_agent.py, the sglang_hicache_v1 ingress in the Rust publisher, and recovery acceptance of SGLang owned-inventory advertisements. The title is specific, concise, and follows a conventional commit format. It does not cover the Rust-side protocol and recovery changes in detail, which is acceptable.

Use direct attribute access on server_args for known fields.
server_args comes from resolved_server_args(...). It is a known SGLang ServerArgs type. nnodes, pp_size, and tokenizer_worker_num are part of that type. Line 57 already reads enable_hierarchical_cache directly.
A getattr(..., default) call returns the default if the attribute is renamed or removed in a future SGLang release. The check then passes without verifying PP=1 or a single tokenizer worker.
Use direct access. Add nnodes, pp_size, and tokenizer_worker_num to the SimpleNamespace in test_state_agent.py.
Proposed fix
- or getattr(server_args, "nnodes", 1) != 1- or getattr(server_args, "pp_size", 1) != 1- or getattr(server_args, "tokenizer_worker_num", 1) != 1+ or server_args.nnodes != 1+ or server_args.pp_size != 1+ or server_args.tokenizer_worker_num != 1
As per coding guidelines: "NO defensive getattr() on known types".

Original discussion: Still present: HiCache slot removal shuts down the agent without releasing its shared publisher socket allocation, so repeated reattachments increase socket use.
Original discussion: Still present: a KVCR inventory source without a router-hint endpoint reaches endpoints[str(rank)] and raises an unexplained KeyError during startup.
Original discussion: Still present: cancellation after the Rust registration task reports success but before Python stores the owner can leave discovery intents registered. The teardown path has no owner to close.
Original discussion: Still present: cancellation between successful intent registration and completion of owner.start() can leave registered intents without an owner that lifecycle cleanup can close.
Original discussion: Still present: removing a HiCache slot shuts down its agent without releasing its shared publisher socket allocation. Repeated removal and attachment can increase allocated sockets.
Original discussion: Still present: when an inventory source lacks a router-hint endpoint, descriptor construction indexes the missing rank and raises an uninformative KeyError instead of identifying the missing prerequisite.
Original discussion: Verified: cancellation after registration succeeds but before the Rust OnceCell and Python lifecycle receive the owner can leave discovery intents registered without a reachable owner to close.
Original discussion: Verified: removing a HiCache slot drops its agent without releasing its allocation in HostSockets; repeated removal and reattachment causes additional shared publisher sockets to be allocated.
Original discussion: Verified: when inventory sources have no router-hint endpoint, kvcr_hint_endpoints returns an empty map and descriptor construction raises an uninformative KeyError.
Validate router-hint endpoint coverage before building inventory descriptors. Keep native registration alive across Python cancellation and withdraw it after the binding has initialized its owner. Return shared publisher allocations after successful HiCache slot shutdown so attachment churn reuses sockets.

Reviewed at 09fb8df. The SGLang mode reuses the vLLM state-agent path cleanly, and the per-event cost is one enum match in normalize_raw_batch. Main items are slot cleanup on the host's no-intent path and the gap path continuing after fail_source; the rest are small.

Relocate the prepared validator, owner pattern and bounded cleanup verbatim into common code. Repoint vLLM imports and test timeout configuration without changing their behavior.

Release failed engine-local slots without reclaiming durable Guard slots. Fence both event domains after a terminal source gap, share SGLang cleanup/endpoint checks, centralize lifetime policy, and retain all seven validator invariants in table-driven coverage.
Validated old-code failures and fixed Python/native regressions, followed by all eight TP1/TP2 Python/Rust Qwen3-0.6B E2E cases on the retained two-B200 nScale allocation, with non-loopback endpoints and independently audited byte-level transfers. No lossless replay or performance claim.

Re-reviewed at ddc87d0. Engine-local slots now release on the no-intent path, the gap path stops before publishing, and the close/validation helpers are shared with vLLM. LGTM.
