The OpenEngine servicer ships from release 1.3.0rc27; `container/context.yaml` pinned 1.3.0rc26, so the sidecar e2e test on main could not run this branch's launcher at all. #15060 moves that pin, with the two-arch compliance baseline re-captured in the same commit -- which is why the bump is its own PR rather than a commit here: the baseline can only come from a capture on a runner with the headroom, and the licenses stage subtracts it from NOTICES. With the bump underneath, `tests/serve/test_sidecar.py`'s TensorRT-LLM case runs rather than skips. The capability probe stays, but it now guards the off-container and downgraded-image paths instead of the pin itself, and its reason says so: seeing that skip in CI means the pin moved backwards. …e-merge Three error paths added in the last round were pinned by nothing: each could be deleted with the suite still green. Now each has a test, verified the way the review asked for -- delete the guard, watch a test fail: guard mutated baseline min_tokens vs max_tokens 47 passed, 1 failed 48 passed RoleMismatch arm 47 passed, 1 failed 48 passed KV handoff arms 47 passed, 1 failed 48 passed `a_minimum_within_the_derived_budget_is_served` is the negative control: the guard has to reject the contradiction, not every request that carries a minimum. `TLLM_WORKER_USE_SINGLE_PROCESS` is not free, and the comments said only that it does not cover TP > 1. The engine logs "Using single process worker for TP1, this may hurt streaming generation performance" (`tensorrt_llm/executor/executor.py`), because the worker shares the server's process instead of gathering over IPC. All three comments now name that, and say where it lands: a context-only request emits one token so the prefill leg barely pays, while the decode leg streams and is offset by its `stream_interval: 5`. The disaggregated launcher also shipped with no pre-merge coverage -- `tests/serve/test_sidecar.py` drove `agg.sh` only. `trtllm_disaggregated` runs `disagg.sh` on two GPUs, matching how the in-process backend's disaggregated scenario is already marked. It is the only config in the module that uses both DYN_SYSTEM_PORT1 and _PORT2, which is what the existing `num_system_ports=2` was already sized for. A green run means the prefill worker produced a `KvSessionRef` and the decode worker replayed it: with the handoff broken the decode leg has no KV to resume and the request fails outright. …s branch The docs page linked `deploy/disagg.yaml` at `blob/main/...`, and this branch is what adds that file, so lychee resolved it against `main` and got a 404. The repo's convention is an absolute github.com URL for a target outside `docs/`, which is right -- it just cannot point at a path the same change introduces. Link the `deploy/` directory instead, which is already on `main`, and name both manifests in the sentence. Checked the rest of the branch for the same shape: no other doc links to a file this branch adds. Signed-off-by: tanmayv25 <tanmay2592@gmail.com>
…d test budgets Four review findings: - disagg.rs: drop `deny_unknown_fields` from `Endpoint`. The module doc 11 lines above states that unknown fields are accepted so a rolling upgrade does not fail a newer peer's handoff as a non-migratable 400; the attribute reversed that one level down, inside `endpoints[]`. - pr.yaml: the disaggregated case is `gpu_2`, so the 1-GPU sidecar job could not select it and the 2-GPU framework job did -- a job that installs no sidecar binary, where `disagg.sh`'s calls to dynamo-trtllm-sidecar are `command not found`. Add a 2-GPU sidecar job and exclude sidecar cases from the multi-GPU framework jobs. vLLM and SGLang get the same exclusion: they share the trap and would hit it the moment a gpu_2 sidecar case is added. - test_sidecar.py: raise the disagg readiness budget to 1000s. `pytest.mark.timeout` is only the outer kill timer; EngineConfig.timeout is what the harness gives the health checks, and leaving it at 600s let it fail at the single-engine budget and then idle until the kill timer. - tests/engine.rs: pin the non-deferring side of the dispatch guard. The existing cancellation test stops the context after the stream exists, so it covers the streaming loop; replacing the guard's condition with a constant `false` left the suite green. The new test stops the context before `generate` and asserts the engine received nothing -- verified to fail against that mutation. Signed-off-by: tanmayv25 <tanmayv@nvidia.com>
Mirrors a_handoff_carrying_an_unknown_field_still_decodes one level down. Reinstating deny_unknown_fields on Endpoint fails this with Backend(InvalidArgument) 'unknown field future_field, expected one of host, port, protocol' -- the non-migratable 400 the module doc says a rolling upgrade must not hit. agg.sh already does this, for a reason that applies equally here: some runtime
images bake DYNAMO_HOME to a minimal install path with no examples/ directory,
and `${DYNAMO_HOME:-...}` lets that baked value win over the computed one, so
sourcing fails. Verified both ways -- the helpers resolve from an unrelated cwd
with DYNAMO_HOME unset, and the old form breaks under a baked bad DYNAMO_HOME
where the new one does not.

Dynamo has wire-protocol mocker servers for vLLM and SGLang, but not for TensorRT-LLM. Without one, `lib/sidecar/trtllm` can only be exercised against canned in-process fakes or a real GPU engine, so nothing in CI runs the real sidecar against realistic KV capacity, batching, admission, and prefill/decode timing. That is what made the disaggregation bugs found during the OpenEngine work expensive to catch. `dynamo-trtllm-mocker-server` implements `openengine.v1` on the Mocker scheduler, so the unmodified sidecar connects to it as if it were a real engine. `EngineType::Trtllm` already existed; only the wire server was missing. The decode role validates the handoff more strictly than a real engine would. The sidecar relays `attributes_struct` through a JSON codec whose failure modes -- dropped fields defaulting to empty, coerced number types, flattened lists -- all still produce a plausible session, so the prefill role stamps four attributes that each pin one of those hazards, and the decode role requires them back in their original JSON types. It also replays the context phase's first token, so both legs' token accounting matches a real engine's. KV-event RPCs return UNIMPLEMENTED to match the real TensorRT-LLM server. A mocker that answered them would let a KV-routing test pass here and fail in production, so a test guards the refusal. `deterministic_token_id` moves into `dynamo_mocker::live` rather than becoming a third private copy; `deterministic_output_tokens` is now expressed in terms of it. The sidecar's disaggregation constants are exported for the same reason. Validated end to end with the frontend on CPU only, aggregated and disaggregated, plus an AIPerf concurrency sweep to 256. LiveEngine::cancel returns false both when the request genuinely finished and when its route is not registered yet -- the route only appears once submit returns, so an abort landing in the submit window read as "already finished" and let the request stream out in full. Replace the three-state machine with a monotone claim taken by whichever of Abort and the response stream reaches the request's end first, and route every terminal exit through it. The backward transition that caused the bug is no longer representable. Also record only requests that were accepted, and count active KV sessions rather than in-flight requests. Signed-off-by: tanmayv25 <tanmay2592@gmail.com>
Measured the mocker against a live TensorRT-LLM 1.3.0rc26 OpenEngine server and closed the divergences that let a green test prove nothing. An abort that lands between registering a request and submitting it cannot be carried out by `LiveEngine::cancel`, which has nothing to cancel yet. The stream now honours the claim itself, so such a request stops instead of reporting ABORTED while streaming its whole budget. The real server serves whatever non-empty model name a request carries -- its `Generate` and `GetModelInfo` both answer for an unrelated name with the loaded model. Rejecting a mismatch failed requests a real engine serves, which is the one thing this mocker must never do. The decode leg replays the context phase's first token, so that token's logprob exists only if the context phase computed it. The handoff now carries it conditionally, mirroring `first_gen_log_probs`, and a decode leg without it reports that token with no logprob -- the failure mode the sidecar errors on, which was previously unreachable from any test. Stop conditions now end a request with STOP and a `stop_match` rather than always LENGTH, giving the sidecar's stop-reason mapping wire-level coverage. A cache hit is capped at `prompt_len - 1` because a real engine always recomputes the last prompt token. `PrefillReady` carries the context phase's usage, as the real server does, and the pump buffer is sized to the token budget like the vLLM and SGLang mockers; capping it merely moved LiveEngine's slow-consumer shedding threshold and surfaced as a spurious internal error. The four scattered claim-and-return sites collapse into one `Exit` reason and a single terminal event, making "exactly one terminal" true by construction, and the 1038-line test file splits by surface. Validation: 35 unit + 7 integration tests green; the three new fidelity tests are mutation-checked; behaviour diffed against live aggregated and disaggregated TensorRT-LLM engines. …xtures `GenerateResponse` was constructed in four places across two modules, with `prefill_ready` repeating the struct literal purely to attach usage. They now go through one `response_with_usage`, which is also the only place that can emit an empty `event` oneof or attach usage to a non-terminal event. The tests spelled out the same slow-engine `MockEngineArgsBuilder` four times and the prefill `MockerServerConfig` three times, beside helpers that already existed for exactly that. Both collapse into `slow_args`/`slow_service` and the existing role helpers. Signed-off-by: tanmayv25 <tanmay2592@gmail.com>
Review round on the TensorRT-LLM OpenEngine mocker. The theme across most of
these: the mocker is only useful if it fails the way the real servicer fails.
**Capacity rejections are `Internal`, not `Overloaded`.** The sidecar stopped
migrating on `Overloaded`, which broke `capacity_rejection_surfaces_as_a_sidecar_error`
on every merge of the base. The right fix is on this side: upstream spends
`ERROR_CODE_OVERLOADED` on exactly one thing, its consumer-stall watchdog, and
reports a post-acceptance failure through `_engine_error_response`, whose
defaults are `ERROR_CODE_INTERNAL` and `retryable=false`
(`grpc/openengine/servicer.py`, `formatting.py`). Spending `Overloaded` on
capacity taught the sidecar a mapping no real server produces. The test now
asserts the rejection is *not* migratable, and says why: there is no code today
for "this engine is full, another may have room".
**A decode server accepts a request that bypassed prefill.** Conditional
disaggregation dispatches straight to decode with no handoff, and the sidecar
builds exactly that request, so classifying it as aggregated made a decode
server reject every bypassed request with `FAILED_PRECONDITION`.
**The response is buffered in full.** `LiveEngine` defaulted to
`CancelOnOverflow { capacity: 8 }`, and a pump task in front of it only widened
the window -- a producer that outran the pump still shed the request and
surfaced an internal error, a failure of the harness rather than of the thing
under test. `RequestOutputBuffering::FullResponse` removes the race, and the
pump task and its channel with it.
**Logprobs.** The replayed first token now reports the value the handoff
carried, instead of regenerating one that would agree on every honest run and
hide a corrupted one. Presence is keyed on output position rather than token id,
so a token sampled again later keeps its own logprob. Prompt logprobs use
`prompt_candidates`, which was parsed and discarded -- a request for prompt
candidates with no output candidates returned none.
**Guided decoding is refused.** It was the one unsimulated feature that returned
an unconstrained answer and no signal, which reads as success.
**The `--model` docs described a rejection that does not exist.** The server
compares nothing against its own `--model` -- only an empty model is refused --
and that is deliberate, since the real engine serves what it was loaded with.
Corrected in `main.rs`, `README.md`, and the test that repeated the claim.
**CODEOWNERS.** The new crate was owned by the trtllm team alone while its
sglang sibling has two owners; added the `shared:` entry and regenerated.
Six tests added or inverted to pin the behaviour above, including a handoff
whose logprob is overwritten before replay, which fails against the previous
code.

Approving again at 310303c258f44ec5ab57fd81ff68b5c2f3379044. The code of this pull request is the same as at c87dd321ff, which I approved.
Only the base branch changed. It now holds the change that cargo fmt -- --check asked for in run 36461157678, in two files that this pull request does not touch. With that change, Pre Merge / rust-tests (.) in run 36474662683 passed the format step and ran the tests of this crate on this tree. All 39 + 3 + 7 tests passed.
The four P3 items below are still open, and none of them blocks approval:
- [P3]
lib/mocker/servers/trtllm/README.md:89: the README says that the server accepts guided decoding, but the server refuses it. - [P3]
lib/mocker/servers/trtllm/src/server.rs:699: in three places, the mocker says yes where the rc27 servicer says no. - [P3]
lib/mocker/servers/trtllm/src/server.rs:562: no test covers the stream's side of the abort claim. - [P3]
lib/mocker/servers/trtllm/src/server_handoff.rs:197: four different rejections share one message, and no test covers the>= 0.0bound at line 129.
The token-ID guard in 310303c258 is the suggestion that I posted in an earlier review. Part of this review is therefore a review of my own work.
What shows that only the base changed.

Approving at 2c181daed44010ddf070b88280766ef66ab205d4. The four P3 items from my last review are fixed, and I found no new issue.
- The merge

Againstmain, the 19 files hold the change that I approved at310303c258, plus2c181daed4. 2c181daed4fixes the three items that had threads. The author resolved those threads, and I replied on each one with my measurements.- It also fixes the fourth item,
server_handoff.rs:197. The message names the constraint and echoes the value, and the new-1.0case pins the>= 0.0bound at line 129. - All 50 tests of the crate pass at this head. They also pass with
--lockedon this head merged withmainatc7241c2f15. Thatmainholds #14879, which changes the sameCargo.lock,Cargo.toml,CODEOWNERS, andareas.yaml. The merge has no conflict, and itsCODEOWNERSmatches what the generator writes. Pre Merge / rust-tests (.)in run 36777557844 passed the same tests on this head merged withmainataacb1abae2.- The two CodeRabbit nitpicks of 2026-09-30 name
tests/serve/test_sidecar.pyand.github/workflows/pr.yaml. Since the merge, neither file is in this pull request, and thesidecar-trtllm-multi-gpu-testjob is gone.
The new abort test is adapted from the test that I suggested, and the -1.0 case is my ask. Part of this review is therefore a review of my own work.
How I checked the merge.
git merge-tree --write-tree --merge-base=8867681f7c 310303c258 bf13a4623creplays only the change that I approved ontomain. It gives treebeb907242bwith no conflict, and0742a337d3has the same tree.- A plain redo of the merge conflicts in 14 files, because this branch still held the old commits of #14349. In 12 of them, the merge keeps the
maincopy, and this pull request does not change those files. Inlib/sidecar/trtllm/src/disagg.rsandlib/sidecar/trtllm/src/lib.rs, the old base equalsmain. The merge keeps the edit of this pull request there and loses nothing frommain. .github/workflows/pr.yamlmerges without a conflict, but the merge takes themaincopy. That drops thesidecar-trtllm-multi-gpu-testjob, which #14349 removed before it landed.
What I broke at this head, and the result.

With the sources of 0742a337d3 and the tests of this head, 4 tests fail: the three rc27 tests and the handoff message test. The new abort test passes on both trees, so it pins code that was already correct. The -1.0 case pins the bound that 310303c258 added.

This is for TRTLLM and more generally. How do we make sure mocker behavior replicates engine behavior. My guess is there are probably lots of gaps between mocker and the engine today. How can we find or close these gaps? |

The PR is now merged; these comments are follow-up items.
Source review of 2c181da, with a focus on performance. The main finding is the always-enabled request recorder; the remaining comments are P3 suggestions. The earlier four P2 fixes are present.
Performance effects are inferred from source and have not been measured. No tests or CI checks were run for this review.

[P1] Make request recording opt-in
Every accepted request is deep-copied for the recorder, then stored under a shared mutex, even during normal load tests where nobody reads the records. This adds copying, contention, and retention of 256 complete requests to the path being measured. Disable recording by default and enable it explicitly for integration tests.

[P3] Avoid retaining another full prompt during decoding
This copies the prompt into DirectRequest and retains the source until the response stream ends. When prompt logprobs are disabled, retain the prompt length and move the tokens into the scheduler request.

[P3] Avoid a full BLAKE3 hash for each planned token
This builds the entire output plan synchronously before submission, hashing the same seed and request ID again for each token, up to 32,768 times. The vLLM mocker already uses one request seed and a cheap per-position calculation; use the same approach here.

[P3] Remove the temporary candidate vector
This allocates token IDs, then immediately converts them into another vector. Build LogProb entries directly to remove one allocation per token when candidates are requested.

[P3] Avoid unused request allocations
Build the session ID only when producing the prefill handoff; aggregated and decode requests never use it. Also, attribute_string in server_handoff.rs:219 can return a borrowed value or just validate the type, since its caller discards the cloned String. The response stream can borrow prepared.request_id instead of cloning it at server.rs:511.

These response-builder documentation lines belong to response_with_usage, not Exit. Also, server_request.rs:24 still describes a fixed delivery buffer although this server uses FullResponse, and server_tests/control.rs:181 refers to the removed pump. Update or remove those stale descriptions.

Important
Stacked on #14349 and targets that branch, so the diff here is only the mocker. It cannot build against
mainuntil #14349 merges — the crate is written againstopenengine.v1, which that PR introduces. Please review #14349 first.Summary
Dynamo has wire-protocol mocker servers for vLLM and SGLang, but not for TensorRT-LLM. Without one,
lib/sidecar/trtllmcan only be exercised against canned in-process fakes or a real GPU engine — so nothing in CI runs the real sidecar against realistic KV capacity, batching, admission control, and prefill/decode timing. That gap is what made the disaggregation bugs found during the OpenEngine work (endpoint mangling, stale-session hangs) expensive to catch.dynamo-trtllm-mocker-serverimplementsopenengine.v1on top of the Mocker scheduler, so the unmodifieddynamo-trtllm-sidecarconnects to it as if it were a real engine, with no GPU.EngineType::Trtllmalready existed indynamo-mocker(vLLM scheduler core plus theguaranteed_no_evictadmission policy); only the wire server was missing.Layout mirrors the two existing siblings —
lib/mocker/servers/{vllm,sglang}— so the three read as a set.Why the handoff validation is strict
The sidecar relays
attributes_structthrough a JSON codec whose realistic failure modes — a dropped field defaulting to empty, a coerced number type, a flattened list — all still produce a plausible session. Presence checks alone would not notice. So the prefill role stamps four attributes that each pin one distinct hazard (a string, a whole-valued double, a deliberately fractional double, a list), and the decode role requires them back in their original JSON types. The decode role also replays the context phase's first token, so both legs' token accounting matches a real engine's rather than the decode leg inventing a fresh stream.
Deliberate: KV events return UNIMPLEMENTED
GetKvEventSourcesandSubscribeKvEventsrefuse, matching what the real TensorRT-LLM server does today. A mocker that answered them would let a KV-routing test pass here and fail in production. A test guards the refusal so it isn't "helpfully" filled in later. The consequence — Dynamo KV routing cannot be exercised against this mocker — is stated in the README; use the worker-leveldynamo.mockerfor that.Canonical-layer moves
deterministic_token_idmoves intodynamo_mocker::liverather than becoming a third private copy, withdeterministic_output_tokensexpressed in terms of it. The sidecar's disaggregation constants (REQUEST_TYPE_KEY,CONTEXT_ONLY,context_only_extra) are exported so the wire contract has one definition instead of four.Validation
Tests — 25 unit + 6 integration. The integration tests drive the real
TrtllmSidecarEngineover a real socket, including a full prefill→decode round trip across two server processes, and assert on requests the server received, not only on replies.Every fix in this PR was mutation-tested — the fix was reverted and the matching test confirmed to fail. Five of six mutations were caught. The sixth is not: reverting the
abortedcheck inside the terminal branch leaves the suite green. With thecancel()fix in place that branch only covers a narrow race (engine emitscompletedbefore the scheduler releases the route) that I could not construct deterministically. It's kept as defense-in-depth with no test behind it.cargo clippy --all-targetsand the full pre-commit suite pass.End to end, CPU only — frontend → sidecar → mocker, aggregated and disaggregated. Disaggregated confirmed genuinely split via distinct
prefill_worker_id/decode_worker_idin the frontend logs.Load — AIPerf 0.12.0, ISL 136 / OSL 128, streaming, 8,600+ requests, zero errors. With
speedup_ratio: 1000the simulated engine is ~free, so this measures the Dynamo path itself:The knee is at 128 — 128→256 buys 2.8% throughput for 89% more latency. Disaggregated costs ~4% throughput at concurrency 32 and ~12% at 128 (routing only; no KV transfer is simulated). Debug binaries, so absolute numbers are pessimistic; the shape is the point.
One thing worth chasing separately: concurrency 1 has worse TTFT than concurrency 32 (32.1 ms vs 6.4 ms), and the distribution is bimodal —
min 2.85 ms, p50 43.65 ms— with the ~40 ms cluster vanishing as soon as traffic is continuous. That is the signature of Nagle interacting with delayed-ACK on an idle connection, but I have not confirmed it; it would want aTCP_NODELAYcheck on the frontend→sidecar request plane. If real, it is a single-stream latency issue that load testing hides. Not introduced by this PR.Summary by CodeRabbit
