Windows ClearType Font Problem

There is a problem with the way that Windows Vista and above process ClearType fonts when using SpotifyToaster. Basically, ClearType fonts work by blending the edges of the font with the font's background. However, if that background is transparent like it is in SpotifyToaster, then it fails to do that correctly. The end result is that it looks like there is a white (or sometimes other off color) shadow around the text that makes it look grainy and distorted. Similar to the following:

You can find more information about this problem on issue #19

To fix this you have two options:

1: You can turn off ClearType (I did so before I ever created this project because I disliked the way it made the fonts look) by doing the following: Search for "ClearType" in the Windows search box (Windows Vista and Windows 7: open the "Start Menu" and start typing, Windows 8: hover in the upper right-hand corner of the screen until a magnifying glass icon shows up and click that) > Click "Adjust ClearType text" > Uncheck the "Turn on ClearType" checkbox, move through the rest of the prompts choosing options that look good for your screen.

I recommend this option because it will easily solve the problem and most users won't notice much of a difference and the difference that they notice may actually be preferable.

2: Try using an alternative version of SpotifyToaster that was built to try and work around this issue. Please note that this version is not perfect. While it ran fine on one of my machines, on a different machine the artist ended up getting clipped and track name was missing altogether. However, if this version works for you, and please let me know if it does, then it should fix the issue without you having to change your system font preferences.
