evolution of rulership
what holds sovereignty (in the eye of those governed):
- the crown (or any holdable object):
whoever holds the crown is the sovereign
- the throne (or any non-movable object or place):
whoever sits on the throne is the sovereign
- the bloodline (or any other form of family tie):
whoever inherits the blood (plus other rules) is the sovereign regardless if the have the throne or crown
sovereign over what (in the eye of the ruler):
- the land:
the ruler governs over anyone that lives on a particular territory
- the people:
the ruler governs over any member of the ethnic group no matter where they lives
split sovereignty:
a polity where the one that holds the crown rules over the people and the one how sits in the throne governs over the land
