What?

Marks Select and SelectControl from @wordpress/ui as recommended for use in a WordPress environment. Marks the legacy @wordpress/components SelectControl as not recommended in Storybook.

This does not add the legacy SelectControl to the use-recommended-components denylist yet.

Why?

The @wordpress/ui select primitive and composed control are ready to use. Consumers should prefer SelectControl when they need a standard labeled field. Leaving the ESLint denylist unchanged keeps existing @wordpress/components imports from failing lint until a follow-up migration pass.

How?

  • Adds Select and SelectControl to the @wordpress/ui allow-list in the use-recommended-components ESLint rule.
  • Updates the @wordpress/ui Storybook stories: sets componentStatus to recommended and adds the manifest tag.
  • Documents on Select that SelectControl should be preferred for a standard label and description.
  • Marks the legacy @wordpress/components SelectControl as not-recommended in Storybook and removes its manifest tag so the components catalog does not merge the two APIs.
  • Updates the Storybook manifest snapshot and prop description allowlist.

Testing Instructions

  1. Open Storybook and confirm Select and @wordpress/ui SelectControl show as recommended in the component status.
  2. Confirm the legacy @wordpress/components SelectControl shows as not recommended, with a note pointing to the @wordpress/ui alternative.
  3. Confirm import { Select, SelectControl } from '@wordpress/ui' is not flagged by use-recommended-components.
  4. Confirm import { SelectControl } from '@wordpress/components' is still not flagged by use-recommended-components.

I thought this had been resolved? The issue is closed and I removed a number of them in #80692 as part of the upgrade to Storybook 10.5.

Looking at the remaining instances, they're all components I probably had in flight while you were cleaning them up 🙈 Final removal in #83124.

Nice, yeah, I saw there were a few more as well, because of how long #80692 ended up staying open before merge. Good we can clean them up!
