The issue was originally created by @chaigler and had a total of 0 comments that may contain additional information. The original issue description is pasted below:

Trying to compile without Advanced Lighting (TORQUE_ADVANCED_LIGHTING unchecked in CMake) causes linker errors. Also, the templates assume Advanced Lighting will always be available and don't attempt to fallback to Basic Lighting if AL fails to initialize.
